A Thanksgiving Message From Fr. Brian Dear Friends, Since this is the weekend before Thanksgiving, I thought I would share a Dear Abby col-umn with you from a few years ago. I hope you gobble it up as much as I did.

How’s your health? Not so good? Well, thank God you’ve lived this long. A lot of people have-n’t. You’re hurting? Thousands--maybe millions are hurting more. (Have you ever visited a veteran’s hospital? Or a rehabilitation clinic for handicapped children?) If you awakened this morning and were

able to hear the birds sing, use your vocal chords to utter human sounds, walk to the breakfast table on two good legs, and read the newspaper with two good eyes, praise the Lord! A lot of people couldn’t.

How’s your pocketbook? Thin? Well, most of the living world is a lot poorer. No pensions. No welfare. No food stamps. No Social Security. In fact, one-third of the people in the world will go to bed hungry tonight.

Are you lonely? The way to have a friend is to be one. If nobody calls you, call them. Go out of your way to do something nice for somebody. It’s a sure cure for the blues. Are you concerned about your country’s future? Hooray! Our system has been saved by such concern. Concern for honesty in government, concern for peace, and concern for fair play under the law. Our country may not be a rose garden, but it also is not a patch of weeds. Freedom rings! Look and listen. You can still worship at the church of your choice, cast a secret ballot, and even criticize your government without fearing a knock on the head or a knock at the door at midnight. And if you want to live under a different system, you are free to go. There are no walls or fences, nothing to keep you here.

As a final thought, here is my Thanksgiving Prayer:

Heavenly Father: We thank you for food and remember the hungry. We thank you for friends and remember the friendless. We thank you for freedom and remember the enslaved. May these remembrances stir us to service. That your gifts to us may be used for others. Amen.

Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. May God continue to bless the good people of Our Lady of Loretto Church.

Dado que este es el fin de semana antes de Acción de Gracias, pensé que iba a compartir una columna Dear Abby con usted desde hace algunos años. Espero que les sea de utilidad como lo ha sido para mi. ¿Cómo está su salud? No es tan Buena? Bueno, gracias a Dios que ha vivido hasta ahora. Mucha gente no tiene esa salud. Sufre usted? Miles - tal vez millones de personas están sufriendo más. (¿Alguna vez ha visitado un hospital de veteranos de guerra? ¿O una clínica de rehabilitación para niños discapacitados?) Si ha despertado esta mañana y escucho el canto de los pájaros, utilizar sus cuerdas bucales para emitir sonidos humanos,ha caminado a la mesa del desayuno con sus dos buenas piernas y leer el periódico con dos buenos ojos, alabado sea el Señor! Un montón de gente no lo ha podido hacer. ¿Cómo anda su bolsillo? Escaso? Bueno, la mayor parte del mundo de los vivos es mucho más pobre. No hay pensiones. No benificios. No hay cupones de alimentos. Sin el Seguro Social. De hecho, un tercio de las personas en el mundo va a ir a la cama con hambre esta noche. ¿Está usted solo? La manera de tener un amigo es siendo amigo. Si nadie le llama, llamelos. Salga de su rutina diaria y haga algo bueno por algui-en. Es un remedio eficaz para la tristeza. ¿Está preocupado por el futuro de su país? ¡que bueno! Nuestro sistema se ha preservado por tal preocupación. There will be a SPONSOR MEETING on Thursday, 12/4 at 7:30pm in the convent. Every student who is being confirmed in May 2015 MUST BE REPRESENTED. If a sponsor cannot attend, a parent should come in his or her place.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE El 23 de noviembre de 1927, un pelotón de soldados conducía al jesuita mexicano Miguel Agustín Pro Juárez al paredón de fusilamiento. Uno de ellos le susurro: “perdóneme”. Miguel le res-pondió que no sólo lo perdona-

ba, sino que le daba las gracias por darle la oportu-nidad de dar testimonio de su fe derramando su sangre por Cristo. Días antes había sido arrestado y acusado de intento de asesinato contra el presiden-te mexicano Álvaro Obregón. En realidad su delito era el de bautizar niños, bendecir matrimonios, lle-var la comunión a los enfermos y escuchar la con-fesión de los arrepentidos. Miguel nació en 1891 y entró al noviciado je-suita en 1914, al mismo tiempo que el gobierno me-xicano comenzaba una persecución en contra de la Iglesia. Debido a esta situación, Miguel tuvo que hacer su formación religiosa fuera de México. Ape-nas pudo, regresó a su nación como sacerdote e hizo su pastoral a escondidas, sabiendo muy bien que podía ser martirizado. Miguel decía a sus amigos que al morir iría al cielo y si se encontraria con santos tristes, bailaría un jarabe tapatío hasta hacerles sonreír para Cristo

ACCIÓN DE GRACIAS Una acción de acción de gracias, cuando las cosas mar-chan mal para nosotros, vale más que miles de gracias cuando las cosas van conforme a nuestros deseos. —San Juan de Ávila

THE LORD’S FLOCK Sheep are high-maintenance animals. They are not very intelligent. Without guidance and care, especially in a climate like Israel’s, they would die quickly from predators, starvation, or just their own slowness. The scriptural image of us as the Lord’s flock is not terribly flattering to us, since it is only the never-ending dili-gence of a watchful shepherd that allows the flock to survive. The feast of Christ the King was intended to call the world back to Christ as the sole power of the world, to bring back a flock that had been scattered by many negative forces of the growing industrial, scientific, and war�torn world of the early twentieth century. It is fitting that, as we celebrate Christ the King, we hear about Christ the Shepherd who cares for us and who, likewise, will be there at the end of time. Interestingly enough, as the Gospel illustrates, our own destiny is determined by the way we have been “shepherds” to the rest of the flock.

Dear Friends,

We did it!!! In a week and a half after asking you to please give to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal (AAA); we were able to raise the $56,000 to pay off our parish tax of $106,000. I am blown away by how generous you are. I am further blown away that some of you have given twice to the AAA. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I cannot believe how generous you are. I cannot believe how good you are. Out of all the pastor’s in this Archdiocese, I am the most blest this Thanksgiving.

Our two new stained glass windows for the Church will be installed December 9th and 10th. Thank you to all those who made these windows a reality. My favorite Mass of the year will be coming up this Thursday, November 27th, Thanksgiving Day. As I get older, I look upon Thanksgiving as Christmas without the hassle. We gather for Mass in the morn-ing, watch the parades and some football (Go 9er!), and then we sit down to share a Turkey Dinner with our families. Sounds pretty simple to me. Our Thanksgiving Mass on Thursday will be at 10am. It will be a bilin-gual Mass thanking God for all the many blessings He has given us during this past year. A collection will be taken up and divided between our St. Vincent de Paul Society and Helping Hands as they gear up to help out our less fortunate brothers and sisters during the Christmas Season. Please plan on attending this special Thanksgiving Mass with your family. I couldn’t think of a better way to begin Thanksgiving than to begin it with Mass. Please bring your Thanksgiving bread and wine to be blest after Communion.

Queridos amigos, Lo logramos !!! En una semana y media después de pedirles para la Campaña Anual del Arzobispo (AAA); hemos logrado reunir 56.000 dólares para pagar los $ 106.000 que se le asignaron a nuestra Parroquia este ano. Estoy muy impresionado por lo generoso que han sido. Estoy doblemente impresionado porque algunos de ustedes han dado dos veces a la AAA. Gracias, gracias, gracias !!! No puedo creer lo generoso que son. No puedo creer lo bueno que son. Soy el Parroco mas bendecido en esta Arquidiócesis, yo soy el más bendecido en este Dia de Acción de Gracias. Nuestros dos nuevos vitrales para la Iglesia se instalarán el 9 y 10 de diciembre. ¡Gracias a todos los que hici-eron estas ventanas una realidad. Mi Misa favorita del año va a ha ser el Jueves, 27 de noviembre, Día de Acción de Gracias. A medida que en-vejezco, veo Accion de Gracias como Navidad sin las preocupacioes y prisas de esa temporada. Nos reunimos para la Misa de la mañana, vemos los desfiles y el fútbol (Ir 9er!), Y luego nos sentamos a compartir una cena de pavo con nuestras familias. Suena bastante simple para mí. Nuestra Misa de Acción de Gracias el jueves será a las 10 am. Será una misa bilingüe agradeciendo a Dios por todas las bendiciones que nos ha dado duran-te este año pasado. Mass Intentions: The tradition of Mass offerings has its roots early in the Church’s history. People would make an offering in memory of a loved one from their own treasury, usually an animal or from their harvest. These went to the support of the clergy or the community at large. Over time the offering came to be a monetary gift. Today we continue this tradition. The monetary gift that has been suggested by our Archdiocese is a $10.00 stipend. Our Mass intention book for 2015 is open. We ask that you request no more than four intentions per family. As you are aware, we have only one week day Mass. We are able to have in-tentions offered for Sunday Masses at the 5pm, 7:30am and 9am Masses as well as the 12 Noon Spanish Mass. Intentions will be taken at the Rec-tory offices during normal operating hours. Thank You

Intenciones de las Misas: La tradición de las ofrendas de misas tiene sus raíces en la historia temprana de la Iglesia.
