SEAN KOPCZYNSKI AND I EXTEND EASTER GREETINGS to all of you. May you be blessed greatly by the risen and glorified Lord of all. Please consider meditation of the mystery of the physical resurrection of Christ. This passage is taken from a book of meditations that I use regularly: “The soul of Jesus Christ is glorified in His Resurrection. We beheld this soul in the Garden of Olives and on the Cross, plunged in an abyss of sadness and desolation. On this day it comes victoriously out of Limbo. When in the garden it had asked for the removal of the bitter cup; it needed support and strengthening from an angel; but today it spreads around it consolation and happiness. See how much joy it has brought to the hearts of the just in Limbo, who were there sighing for the day on which heaven should be opened to them. Our Saviour’s soul comes to tell them that the day is near at hand, that the Redemption is accomplished. Many of them accompany it, when the soul returns to be reunited to its body. Through their own resurrection, they will be the first witnesses of the Saviour’s Resurrection. It shows them the sacred body, haggard, covered with wounds, stretched in the grave. How tender their compassion, their gratitude, their love, when they consider those deep, countless wounds, which reveal the extent of the sufferings of the Son of God for their redemption. We can easily imagine them exclaiming at this sight: ‘So much dost Thou love me, Easter Sunday April 16, 2017

O Lord, that Thou seemest to have nothing but hatred for Thyself’” (St. Bonaventure).

Now the blessed soul is reunited to its body. It rejoices exceedingly at its ability to reward it for all its sacrifices, and to procure for it more splendor and delight than it brought abuses and torments: Resurrectionis Gloria sepelivit morientis injuriam. (St. John Chrys. serm. 75.) God exacts humiliation only with a view to future elevation. Do thou then, O my soul, accept all the humiliations He is pleased to send thee during the time of thy exile on earth; be willing to be buried in darkness, despised, placed below all others; the day of thy glory will come —Fr. Shannon Collins, MSJB, Pastor.

AJESTIC QUEEN OF HEAVEN AND MISTRESS OF THE ANGELS, thou didst receive from God the power and commission to crush the head of

Satan; wherefore we humbly beseech thee, send forth the legions of Heaven, that, under thy command, they may seek out all evil spirits, engage them everywhere in battle, curb their insolence, and hurl them back into the pit of Hell. “Who is like unto God?” O good and tender Mother, thou shalt ever be our hope and the object of our love. O Mother of God, send forth the holy Angels to defend us and drive far from us the cruel foe. Holy Angels and Archangels, defend us and keep us. Amen.

To dress becomingly for God and neighbor, and in keeping with the reverence due to the Blessed Sacrament, kindly refrain from wearing shorts, tee-shirts, tank-tops, revealing blouses, sleeveless or backless dresses, or form-fitting clothing of any sort. Please do wear dresses and skirts that fall below the knee. With due regard to time and circumstance, all are encouraged to wear decorous attire befitting sacred and divine worship.

HOLY SATURDAY SERMON St. Ephiphanius of Cyprus (403)

HAT THING IS THIS? Today there is great silence upon the earth, great

silence and stillness, verily great silence, for the King sleeps. The earth was frightened and became still, for God fell asleep in the flesh and raised up those who from ages past were sleeping. God died in the flesh and Hades shuddered. God slumbered briefly, and those in Hades awoke. Where now that so recent tumult, those cries, that clamor against Christ, O ye lawless? Where the populace, the oppositions, the ranks, the weapons, the spears? Where the kings, the priests, the judicable judges? Where the lanterns, the swords, the boisterous shouts? Where the rabble, the jeering, the irreverent guard? They have stumbled against the Cornerstone, Christ, and they were broken; they have hurled themselves against the solid Rock, and they were crushed, and their waves dispersed into foam. They struck against the invincible Anvil, and they were shattered. Upon the wood [of the Cross] they raised up the Rock of life, and It brought down and slew them. They bound the great Sampson, the Sun, God, but He, having loosed the age-old bonds, destroyed the Philistines and iniquitous. …Today is salvation for men upon the earth and for those who from ages past are beneath the earth. Today is salvation for the world, visible and invisible. … What then? Did God save absolutely all when He appeared in Hades? In no wise. But there also He saved them that believed. Yesterday economy; today authority; yesterday the tokens of infirmity, today those of majesty; yesterday the tokens of humanity; today those of Divinity. Yesterday He was slapped; today He smites the tenement of Hades with the lightning of His Divinity. Yesterday He was bound; today He binds the tyrant with unbreakable bonds. Yesterday He was condemned; today He bestows liberty on the condemned. Yesterday Pilate’s ministers mocked Him; today Hades’ gatekeepers saw Him and trembled. …
