ADVENT THE TIME FOR WAITING
We now begin the Church year with the celebration of the Advent Season. Advent is for
most people the preparation for the Christmas Season. Advent has twofold meanings, it is not
only a preparation for the birth of Jesus but also an anticipation for the second coming of Jesus.
This twofold theme of the Incarnation and Second coming is a reminder that Christ is present in
the past, present and future.
The Advent Season is not the same as Lent in the context of preparation and fasting. Ad-
vent is also a penitential season. The color purple is used during this time as a reminder to always
be ready and reconciled to God. Now is the good time to make this season joyful with a repent-
ant heart so when Christmas day comes, our repentant heart will be our birthday gift to Jesus.
May this season of Advent be a meaningful journey for us towards the Nativity of the Lord.
