Celebration of the Eucharist

18th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Back on the weekend of July 7th, we heard din

the Holy Gospel theme general message of “the

harvest is plenty and laborers are few”. This week-

end we hear a continuation of Luke’s Gospel echo-

ing part of that same parable.

On that same weekend, an inspirational song was

sung at the Presentation of the Gifts entitled “Come With Me into the Fields” by popular liturgi-

cal music composer Dan Schutte. This song en-compassed the entire message of the Gospel on Ju-

ly 7th and the one we hear proclaimed today.

With poetry from Eleanor Farjeon (1881-19665)

and using a light, uplifting Gaelic melody (Bunessan), we open the Holy Eucharist with Lit-

urgy with “Morning Has Broken”. A nice, seasonal

song during these Summer months. The mention

of creation, gardens, sunlight, rain, birds and wet

dew, make this a appropriate way to praise the Lord today. ~ Ray Murphy, Music Director

Prayer For Troops

All-powerful and ever-living God, when Abraham left his native land and departed from his people You kept him safe through all

his journeys. Protect our U. S. Military. Be their constant com-panion and their strength in battle, their refuge in every adversi-

ty. Guide them, O Lord, that they may return home in safety. We ask this through Christ our Lord. ~ Amen

Time, Talents & Treasures

Summer of Discernment … in preparation for our Ministry Fair this coming September 7th and 8th. Fr. Dolan has asked that we take part in a daily Prayer of

Discernment this summer. By praying this prayer we are asking God to help us to recognize our gifts, and to be open to using them to build up and strengthen our community.

Each of us is called, in a unique way, to do the work of Christ - to be His hands and feet in the communities in which we live. As it states in scripture, (1Corinthians 12:4-6)

“There are different kinds of gifts but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone, it is the same God at work.”

We are all intricately connected as members of the Body of Christ. If we each commit to discovering and exploring our gifts, then we cannot help but to better recognize our roles in building each other up…hence the parish community in which we live.

After saying the Prayer of Discernment, sit in silence for 2 to 3 minutes, opening your heart and mind to the Lord. Write down, even it doesn’t make sense, all that comes to mind. Complete your prayer time by thanking God for his goodness and reciting the Our Father.

Ministry Fair

To be held on the weekend of September 7th & 8th.

Serve One Another to Serve the Lord.

How is the Lord calling you to use your time and talents to serve others as you serve Him? Plans are progressing for the upcoming parish ministry fair that will be held over the weekend of September 7th and 8th.. A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE by Bud Ozar In today’s gospel Jesus teaches us: “One’s life does not con-

sist of possessions.” We spend so much time working to

obtain more stuff; we don’t have time for people in our

lives. What is enough? Are the words of Jesus, “You fool”,

meant for us?

Faith formation

The Marian Guild is providing

“Meal Bags to Go”

for children at St. Ann’s Soup Kitchen. Thanks to the generosity of parishion-

ers, we now have an abundant supply of peanut butter and jelly for the summer. We are still in need of snack

packs of trail mix, raisins, etc., juice boxes and shelf sta-ble milk boxes. Please make sure to mark these dona-

tions to the “Marian Guild.”. We greatly appreciate your help and generosity.

Marian Guild News Thanks to the Social Justice Committee, and countless vol-unteers from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, who have served St. Ann’s Soup Kitchen for decades, our mission was born. The Marian Guild had adapted St. Ann’s Kitchen as our charity to support. We began this journey with a specific commitment...to pro-vide meal bags “To Go” for the children who are supported by St. Ann’s. These bags are delivered weekly and will help bridge the gap left during the summer when children cannot rely on school meal programs. The folks at the Soup Kitchen who distribute the bags each Friday describe the experience as “magical.” The children are so excited and joyful to take home their very own bag. Lucy, the manager of St. Ann’s, tells us this is the first time the soup kitchen has been able to provide a service such as this. No child should ever be hungry...EVER ! Our committee is humbled by the overwhelming generosity of our parishioners. Your donations of food items we re-quested, exceeded our expectations ! From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you !! For those who have experience St. Ann’s Soup Kitchen, no words are needed. It is a very special place indeed. All those at St. Ann’s who serve those in need, do so with God’s love and His Grace. It is an honor to begin this jour-ney, together, sharing our faith.

Gratefully, The Marian Guild St. Ann’s Soup Kitchen Committee
