Come Spend Time with Me 9 am -‐‑ 12 Noon
Everyone is invited to spend some time with the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. We are presently having the adoration in the Church. This gives more opportunity for people who will want a larger space to pray and to meditate. This will continue hopefully till the end of November. Your hour with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament will repair the evils of the world and bring about peace on earth. During this time of crisis in the Church, please come and pray for peace and unity for the Church. Day and night, Jesus dwells in the Blessed Sacrament because you are the most important person in the world to Him. Remember Christ said, “Come to me all of you who are weary and find life burdensome and I will refresh you…” “Cast all of your anxieties upon the one who cares for you…” My peace is My Gift to you.” (MT 11:28; PT 5:7; JN 14:17).
Don Bosco Columbiettes One Million Hail Mary’s
Campaign for World Peace Started on October 1, 2018 and running until May 31, 2019, we are sponsoring a campaign to seek our Blessed Mother’s intercession for world peace. Please support this endeavor to say One Million Hail Mary’s by praying and reporting the amount of Hail Mary’s you have said.
Homestead Eucharistic Ministries
On the First Friday of every month, a Mass is held at the Homestead nursing home. Volunteers are needed to bring the residents from their room downstairs to where Mass is being celebrated. The time involved would be approximately 1:30-‐3:00. Every Sunday we try to bring communion to the Catholic residents of the Homestead who were once active members and even daily Mass attendees at their home parish. Now if we do not bring communion, the residents mat go a long time before receiving Jesus. If you could with either First Friday or on one Sunday of the month, it would help tremendously. Please call Dan Salvatore (201)247-‐8342 or Mary Anne Condit (973)201-‐3352 to volunteer or for more details. It is not a lifetime commitment!

Religious Education Announcement 10/14 -‐ Confirmation Gathering at 7 pm 10/26-‐10/27 – Confirmation Announcement The 8th Grade Lock-‐In Retreat will take place on Friday, October 26th and Saturday, October 27th. The 9th Grade will join them since their 8th Grade Retreat was postponed in May due to the bathroom being renovation. Students are asked to arrive at 4:45 pm on Friday and the Retreat will conclude following the 5 pm Mass on Saturday.
Parents of OLMC Confirmation Candidates We are in serious need of adult volunteers (one adult for each Sunday) who are willing to supervise a small group (3 or 4) of Confirmation candidates at the Doughnut Service on Sunday mornings. The hours of service are from 9 am until approximately 12:30 pm following sales and clean-‐up after the 11 am Mass. We are required to provide adult supervision. The candidates serve the parishioners and collect the payment, and the supervisor is present to provide adult guidance from the time they start until after clean-‐up. You are also asked to attend the 9 am or 11 am Mass with the candidates to make sure they go to Mass. Thank you for your continuing support—Dan Salvatore

October is the Month of the Rosary
The month of October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary. Mary appeared to St. Dominick in 1206 after he had been praying and doing severe penances because of his lack of success in combating the Albigensian heresy. Mary praised him for his valiant fight against the heretics and then gave him the Rosary as a mighty weapon, explained its uses and efficacy and told him to preach it to others. “Since the prayers of the Rosary come from such excellent sources – from Our Lord Himself, inspired Scripture and from the Church – it is not surprising that the Rosary is so dear to our Blessed Mother and so powerful with Heaven.” “Even today, when dangers threaten not only Christianity but all civilization, we are urged by our Blessed Mother to turn again to the Rosary for help.” The Rosary, when prayed in an authentic way, not mechanical and superficial but profoundly, it brings, in fact, peace and reconciliation. It contains within itself the healing power of the Most holy name of Jesus, invoked with faith and love at the center of each “Hail Mary.” – “Mary in our Life” by Fr. William G. Most

October 14, 2018 Twenty-‐‑eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time
At the end, he realized there is no short cut to the Kingdom of heaven At the General Audience on the 21st of July 1999, Pope John Paul II said, “Heaven is neither an abstraction not a physical place in the clouds, but a living, personal relationship with the Holy Trinity. It is our meeting with the Father which takes place in the risen Christ through the communion of the Holy Spirit." As the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches, "this perfect life with the Most Holy Trinity this communion of life and love with the Trinity, with the Virgin Mary, the angels and all the blessed is called ‘heaven'. Heaven is the ultimate end and fulfilment of the deepest human longings, the state of supreme, definitive happiness" (n.1024). It is not surprising that the rich man in today's gospel was also looking for a way to attain the
ultimate happiness in heaven. And as Dr. Scott Hahn reflected, "the rich young man wants to know what we all want to know—how to live in this life so that we might live forever in the world to come." The young man simply asked, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” It seems like a reasonable question. And citing a handful of the more well-known of the Ten Commandments, he boasted that he has faithfully observed them. Looking deeply into his incredulous face and even deeper into his troubled soul, Mark tells us our Lord “loved him” enough to tell him the truth. “You lack one thing. Go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Whatever hope still lived in the man’s face evaporated as he “went away grieving, for he had many possessions.” The rich man's possession was his pride and happiness. Unfortunately, he cannot let go this pride and desire to have more possessions. I will imagine that Jesus is also addressing all of us today. He asks us to let go of all that defines us: our wealth, our status, our education, our accomplishments, our assets, and all the controlling pride that goes with them especially if these prevent us from having a good relationship with Him. Probably the rich man felt he is entitled to inherit the kingdom of God without working for it. "At the very least, we must personally, finally admit that we are entitled to nothing.” “No measure of material wealth, no acquired societal status, no educational accomplishment, no inherited privilege gives us leverage with God.” In fact, the words spoken to us on Ash Wednesday, “You are dust, and to dust you shall return” as ashes are imposed on our foreheads reminds us that we came into this world empty handed and at the end of our earthly existence we will also go back empty handed. The question is what, then, are the “many possessions” that keep us from giving ourselves totally to God? What are we clinging to—material things, comfort zones, relationships? What will it take for us to live fully for Christ’s sake and the sake of the Gospel? You may not be rich but have you ever used even the little you have to help others?
—Fr. Abuchi
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
“If Christ Jesus dwells in a man as his friend and noble leader, that man can endure all things, for Christ helps and strengthens us and never abandons us. He is a true friend.” –St. Therese of Lisieux
