My dear parishioners, we are raising funds for our parking lot and security cameras for our safety. The camera installation will cost over $2,500.00 and the parking lot will cost over $92,000.00. It will be great when it’s finished. Honestly, I have NO idea how much to ask you for, but a gift of $______ is something you'd be able to consider? You can also make a pledge to be paid in installments. Envelopes are provided for your convenience at all doors of the church. Please fill out the amount of your contribution or if you want to make monthly installments over a 12 month period. Together we can build our parish and I thank you for your tremendous support all this while. Total received to date: $ 52,000.00 Unpaid pledges: $ 1,825.00 Total: $ 53,825.00

“One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn’t do.”
Over the years, I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The truth is, most people that we revere never let fear become a stumbling block to their success. Many of them failed many times before reaching their goal. Thomas Edison failed 10,000 times before he created the light bulb. He did not give in to fear. Fear is simply a catalyst, gasoline poured on a fire, magnifying the worst within us. No wonder President
Roosevelt told an anxious America prior to WWII, “We have no fear but fear itself.” But if fear is the virus to the soul, what is its cure?
“Do not be afraid.” These are the words of Jesus to His disciples in our gospel reading for today. He was sending them out into the world, which can certainly be a dangerous place, to extend His ministry of truth and love and healing. Jesus knew that His followers were anxious about the assignment. "They would be representing Him, modeling their preaching and practice on His, but the disciples would be doing this mission for the first time without Jesus being right there beside them. Like a student pilot taking their first solo flight without the presence and assurance of the flight instructor, the disciples were understandably nervous. And Jesus knew this about them, as He knows it about us. “Do not be afraid,” He said, naming the demon inside their emotions—the fear that threatened to paralyze their feet, mute their tongues, and stifle their witness."
“Do not be afraid.” How often this is the message of God through His messengers to those who are about to embark on a mission for Him! “Do not be afraid,” God said to young Jeremiah when he hesitated to accept God’s call to be a prophet because of his youthful age. “Do not be afraid,” the angel said to Joseph as he pondered what to do with his betrothed wife, Mary, after hearing about the virginal conception. All that we need is to trust in God. We may not be successful if we allow fear cloud our ability to try new things. "In fact, resilience is the secret ingredient to success. If you can figure out how to stay the course and get back in the game after failure, you’ll go places and you’ll make the difference you were intended to make." Although Jesus never intended His followers to fail but He knew fear and giving up might set in especially when faced with hostility, rejection or persecution in the ministry. But fear is real. "Fear distracts our attention from our higher mission, siphoning energy away that should be used for good. Of course, there is much to fear in this life. Crime in the streets, pandemic viruses running loose—but there is also so much more in life to cherish, and there is so much more in life to do, that we will never get done if we are consumed by fear. Jesus knows this about us, and so He counsels His followers to name the fear, face it squarely, take appropriate caution when necessary, but live confidently anyway knowing that our ultimate security is in God, not in our alarm systems, door locks, or weapons.”
Loving and trusting in God cancels fear. “Jesus phrased that same thought in our gospel passage today, urging anxious disciples to rest in the Father’s love and care. If the smallest of birds, the sparrow, is noticed and cared for by God, how much more are God’s children in the center of His Divine care? Jesus says that God even knows the number of hairs on our head, evoking the image of a loving parent studying every detail of their baby while he or she sleeps.” Remind yourself that, “You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.” Don’t give in to fear and unnecessary anxieties that can ruin human life. --Fr. Abuchi
QUOTE OF THE WEEK: “I baptize you with water for repentance, but one who is more powerful than I is
coming after me; I am not worthy to carry His sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” Matthew 3:11
