PDF ME PLEASE. Thanks.

Eucharistic AdorationBeginning September 3rd, the parish will resume holding Eucharistic Adoration on the first Thursday of each month. When the Eucharist is exposed in the monstrance, someone must be in the church at all times; and Sister Barbara has noticed that not everyone who “signs up” for a half-hour of prayer actually shows up. The Liturgy Committee therefore brainstormed about ways of encouraging people to come to the church for prayer on the first Thursday of each month. We will therefore be scheduling confessions between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon and between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. on all of these first Thursdays. At noon members of the parish staff will lead the celebration of midday prayer, part of the Church’s official daily prayer. Exposition will come to an end somewhat earlier than in the past: there will be Benediction at 6:45 p.m. We’re hoping this will encourage folks with 7:00 p.m. meetings to come a bit earlier for common prayer. Parishioners may wish to note some of these activities on their calendars for the first Thursday of each month beginning September 3rd.

Cleaning Out Your closet and cupboards? It’s not too early to start putting good usable clothing, small appliances and bedding aside for the St. Vincent de Paul and Knights of Columbus Clothing Drive on October 17th and 18th.

Free Catholic CDs and Pamphlets: Don’t forget to check out the kiosk this week that is filled with new CDs and pamphlets. For a limited time this summer the materials are free. Take one and pass it on or return it for someone else to listen to or read when you have finished!

Interested in joining the Catholic Church (or know some who might)?

Please contact Deacon Jeffrey Fortkamp at [email protected] or 614-578-5420 or Sister Barbara Kolesar.

OLP Facts – You may hear them every day if you live nearby the church but do you know about each of our bells in our bell tower?

Our Lady of Peace’s exposed bell tower contains four bronze bells from Burden’s in Cincinnati, cast in Holland. The bell tower is topped with a cross and rises 78 feet above the apex or skylight of the church. As the skylight is 32 feet above the sanctuary, the bell tower’s tip carries it 110 feet over the sanctuary. There are inscriptions on two sides of each of the three larger bells and one on the small bell.

No. 1 Bell is 44 ½ inches in diameter, weighs 1,910 pounds and its musical note is F natural. The inscriptions read: “To the Greater Honor and Glory of Christ the Prince of Peace. Have Mercy on Us.” “In Memory of the Reverend George H. Foley, Founding Pastor 1946-1965.”

No. 2 Bell is 36 inches in diameter, weighs 1,000 pounds and its tone is an A natural. Its inscriptions read: “To the Praise and Honor of Mary Immaculate, Our Lady Queen of Peace, Pray for Us.” “On Behalf of the Benefactors and Members of the Parish, Living and Dead.”

No. 3 Bell is 29 ¾ inches in diameter and weighs 583 pounds and its tone is C natural. Its inscriptions read: “In Honor of St. Michael the Archangel, Defend Us.” “In Memory of Bishop Michael J. Ready Who Established the Parish.”

No. 4 Bell is 22 ½ inches in diameter, weighs 253 pounds and its note is F natural. The inscription reads: “In Honor of St. John the Baptist, Patron of his Holiness Pope Paul VI, and Bishop John J. Carberry, Columbus 1966, Intercede for Us.”

PARISH School of Religion Now Enrolling for 2015-2016 School Year

The Parish School of Religion is open to all students age preschool through 8th. Attending PSR classes is a requirement for children to receive their sacraments (Reconciliation and First Communion in the 2nd grade and Confirmation in the 8th grade) in the Catholic Church. The Confirmation program is a two-year program. If you would like your child to be confirmed when they are in 8th grade – they need to begin classes this Fall as a 7th grader.

PSR is more than just preparation for Sacraments, it is also a fantastic way for children to learn about their Faith, create fellowship with other children and families in the parish, and develop a lifelong commitment to being a practicing Catholic.

Classes start Sunday, September 13, 2015.

The Preschool/Kindergarten class meets during the 10:00 a.m. Mass in the basement of the church. This program is open to all children in the OLP Parish. On the first day of class, children should come directly to their classroom. The cost is $35.00 per child.

Classes for 1st graders-8th graders are held from 11:00 a.m.-12:15 p.m. at the OLP School. The program is open to all children in our parish who attend public or private schools that are not affiliated with the Catholic Diocese. On the first day of class, children and parents should meet in the school cafeteria, on the first floor of the school, where they will be introduced to their teachers and see their classroom.

The cost for Parish School of Religion is $70.00 per child, $120.00 for two children and $175.00 for three children or more enrolled in the program. If tuition is prohibitive to your child attending this program, please contact the Parish and we can discuss other options. Registration forms can be found on the parish website at olp-parish.org, under the heading Faith Formation, or on the following page. For additional information, please contact Tracey Fortkamp, PSR Coordinator, at [email protected].
