The Kingdom of God
Jesus teaches us in today's Gospel that the Kingdom of God may be compared to a mustard seed that
when it is sowed grows to become a large plant to become a dwelling for the birds. This growth is
mysterious, the work of God.
We clearly see this in the life of the Church. Before He ascended into Heaven, Jesus sent His Apostles to
make disciples of all nations. They were a small group confused and scared. But the Lord Jesus had prom-
ised to be with them and to give them the Holy Spirit. Once the Holy Spirit came, freed them from fear, and
filled them with faith and love, this small group grew to establish the universal Church which continues to
grow mysteriously proclaiming God's Kingdom to all corners of the World.
It is by God's grace given by the Holy Spirit that millions of people in every generation have become part of
the Kingdom of God and by their love, humility and faith in God have become seeds of the kingdom of
God.
- Fr. Eduino Silveira
NOTES FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Progress, Not Perfection, In Our Faith
Today’s First Reading presents the image of plant growth, reminding us that it is God, the Creator, who reg-
ulates which ones prosper and which ones will not. God topples the mighty and raises the lowly. This same
theme is echoed in Our Lady’s Magnificat.
The Responsorial Psalm 92 encourages us to have an attitude of gratitude for God blesses the grateful heart.
However, as Christians we know that God’s justice is not always seen here and now, but oftentimes is left
to be seen in the afterlife.
In the Second Reading, St Paul reminds us to not lose sight of our goal, our true home, i.e., eternal happi-
ness with the Lord in the next life. If we just live for the here and now, we will fall into selfish and even self
-destructive ways. We are called to be courageous in living God’s love now.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus presents two parables on the growth of seeds. The mysterious unseen growth of a
seed nurtured by God who makes it grow, is like the seed of Faith that someone plants, but God is the one
that causes it to grow in our hearts. Faith is God’s gift to us, its growth however small or insignificant it
may seem, is a miracle of grace. We may not witness great miracles in our lifetime, but often we see small
miracles of grace: when one forgives another; when someone dies to self to serve others; or when a person
rejects temptation in order to live in God’s grace, and even greater, when they continue on that path, re-
sponding to His grace. We are reminded not to expect perfection from our fellow believers or ourselves, but
rather progress in our Faith. The only thing we should commit ourselves to is the gradual process of further-
ing the growth of God’s kingdom in our midst.

Annual Catholic Appeal Progress Report
As of May 15, 2015, 186 parishioners have participated in the 2015 Annual Catholic Appeal at our parish, totalling
$52,206.00 ,in gifts and pledges. The Annual Catholic Appeal is our annual tradition that connects us to thousands
of people who need our help every day. Twenty-five percent comes back to our parish to help with our own local
works of charity. This year, these funds will be used to fund the efforts of our chapter of St. Vincent de Paul, tuition
assistance at our parish school and outreach to the poor.
If you have not yet participated in the 2015 Annual Catholic Appeal by sharing whatever you can from your financial
blessings this year, envelopes are available here at the parish or you may donate online through The Catholic Foun-
dation at www.tcfsac.org. Either way, your donation will help more than one hundred programs throughout the dio-
cese, as well as our own outreach to those in need. Thank you for your continued generosity to our church and the
people of our community.
Parish Pay Summer is here! Tis’ the season for outdoor barbecues, beaches, and well-deserved family vacations. While families
spend hours planning for those three-day weekends and weeks out of town, they sometimes tend to overlook that
their parish needs them especially in the summer months. Stewardship shouldn’t go away when you do. OLA ex-
penses are a 12 month proposition. Parish Pay is a safe, convenient way to electronically donate consistently, giving
you the peace of mind that you are doing your part to support the parish and its ministries. You may use your check-
ing account, debit or credit card to establish a recurring or one-time donation. To sign up, simply go to olaparish.net
and click on “donation”.

gregation pray for a loved one, whether

Christian Meditation Group
In an age of rush and noise, it is essential that we find
time to be still and quiet. “Be still and know that I am
God,” says the Psalmist. In this prayer of silence called
Christian Meditation we find God who dwells in our
own heart. And, in finding Him, we find our own selves
and thus, are renewed. A Christian Mediation Group reg-
ularly meets Mondays at 7:30pm in our School Library.
Please call Fran at 488-4229 to learn more.
