Bishop Robert Barron, a regional bishop of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and founder of Word On Fire ministry, is now working with parishes to engage their parishioners in learning more about their faith, AND becoming more active in parish life. His solution is Flocknote.

Our parish subscription to Flocknote in 2020 will accomplish several important, transforming goals:

1. The parish will be able to easily send text messages and emails to every parishioner who signs up. (You can sign up by following instructions below.)

2. Smaller groups, organizations and ministries within the parish will be able to more easily communicate with each other. (You can identify yourself as someone who is interested in specific parish groups when you sign up.)

3. The parish can reach out to people who may be outside of the circle of parishioners who attend Mass or participate in activities. (You can help by sharing what you learn through Flocknote.)

4. This is very important! Everyone who signs up will have access to the extensive Word On Fire video library of reports on Church events, features about Catholic top-ics, and popular series such as Catholicism, The Mass, and Pivotal Players. Watch a short video as you enjoy your morning coffee, or view a longer video as you work-out at the gym or relax in the evening. You can share these features with friends, too!

Our parish has invested in this means of better communications and continuing education for everyone. Parishioners’ engagement in the parish and growth in faith is valuable to our community and to the Church. We are following the call of every recent pope, including Pope Francis, to use all means of modern technolo-gy to spread the Gospel in a world that is hungry for connection, enlightenment and inspiration. This is what the New Evangelization is all about.

WOW! This Year Newcomers are always welcome

at OLA’s Widows Or Widowers and other singles gatherings. This casual social and support group meets Thurs-day, Jan. 23, at 5:30 p.m. in the OLA Convent for dinner and optional game play for those who enjoy a little com-petition. (Bring $2 in quarters if you wish to play.)

Bring a friend! All are welcome to this monthly gathering. Dinner, dessert and beverages will be served for only $10. We look forward to seeing you! For questions and to RSVP by Wednesday, January 22, please call Jo Pearring at (909) 626-0489 or Jean O’Donnell at (909) 624-3392.

Mid-Year Report A mid-year financial report is presented by Neomi Torres, our parish administrator, and Steve Yoss, chairman of the Finance Council.

The report shows a significant decline in income in July and August, and low collections through the end of the year.

January income was strong and made up the shortfall.

Getting ready for Fiesta 2020… One of the delights we can anticipate in 2020 is our

73rd Annual OLA Fiesta coming May 8, 9, and 10. Now that our construction phase is over, Fiesta will be bigger and better than ever! We begin with two things:

1. Volunteers will mobilize to stuff our Fiesta raffle packets Sunday, Feb. 2, from 8 a.m. to noon on the auditorium stage. School parents may earn service hours for this task. Make new friends and meet the “movers and shakers” of Fiesta while you help.

2. The Fiesta T-Shirt Design Contest is now open to students of all ages up to 18 years. Deadline is Feb. 2 for black-and-white drawings on a nautical (sailing) theme. Into the drawing add... OLA Fiesta 73rd Fiesta 2020 Put a name and phone number on the back of paper. Submit your drawing to the parish or school office. You could win a wristband for free rides at Fiesta!

Book and videos A number of parishioners pre-ordered the Photo Memory Book about our church renovation, as well as videos of the Dedication Mass and Renovation Summary.

These projects are now in progress and will be completed soon. All will be available for delivery or purchase later this month.

Thank you for your patience!

Help support new medical clinic in Haiti

Deacon Joe Domond has just returned from Haiti where he found the political unrest too dangerous for travel by Americans. The March medical mission will be postponed until a later date.

However, the need of the poor for care remains urgent. The Domond Foundation will host its annual fundraising gala Saturday, Jan. 25, from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Claremont home of Pat and Chris Shaner, 695 W. Via Espiritu Santo. The night includes live music, live and silent auction, and testimony from the volunteers who have served at the medical clinic in Haiti.

Make your reservations through Chris Shaner at (714) 299-9939 or email [email protected]. Tickets at $70 per person help support the new, year-round medical clinic which opens in March in a rural area of Haiti serving the poor with no other ac-cess to care. Other projects include a school, an orphanage, and a clean water initiative for homes.

The fundraiser includes the raffle of a new iPad; donation per ticket is $20 through Chris Shaner. Haiti suffers from one of the highest infant and maternal mortality rates in the Western Hemisphere. The new clinic supported by the Domond Founda-tion will include pre-natal care and a birthing facility for safe deliveries.

wear for homeless men and women is this week-end. Or you may bring donations to the parish of-fice during the week. Your gift helps restore the dignity of those who rarely own anything new.

The first and second quarter of the fiscal year budget reflects a decrease in the offertory collection. We were worshipping in the HOT temporary space during the month of July and moved into our renovated church in August. The offertory collection dropped nearly $40,000 in those two months, and through November it decreased a total of $54,000.

Fortunately, due to a couple of generous donors, December and January collections came in strong to help offset the shortfall. Our year-to-date expenses ending December are within budget, but we are anticipating a year-end deficit. The Finance Council meets monthly and is mindful of the trend in our financials.

We encourage every household to commit to and fulfill their pledge so we can continue to support our mission here at OLA! We are a strong and vibrant community and are truly blessed. We thank you for your commitment!
