Responsorial Psalm

Mon. Lord, do not deal with us as our sins deserve.

Tue. To the upright I will show the saving power of God.

Wed. Save me, O Lord, in your steadfast love. Thurs. Happy are they who hope in the Lord. Fri. Remember the marvels the Lord has done. Sat. The Lord is kind and merciful.

At this second station on our lenten journey we meet Jesus transfigured on the mountain. This story serves as an icon for our contemplation, an opening through which we can see a divine and

mysterious world simultaneously near and far. In Matthew’s gospel, it is scarcely a week since

Jesus predicted to his disciples his passion and their part in it. The three disciples who witness Jesus’ glory on the mountain are thus strengthened to witness his agony in the garden. Suddenly they see Jesus as he will become. Upon this human face which is threatened with the shadow of death, the dazzling light of Easter is already seen. Moses and Elijah surround him. These two great witnesses of the old covenant attest by their presence the imminence of the last days, the appearance of the great awaited prophet. The Father is also present in the cloud, and just as at Jesus’ baptism, his voice reveals for an instant the secret of Jesus of Nazareth: “This is my beloved Son. Listen to Him. Receive, in Him and in yourself, the narrow way of glory and suffering, of power and weakness, of death and resurrection!”

It is time to come down onto the plain to continue the journey behind the servant. Soon the clouds of Golgotha will absorb the shining of this transfigured face. There will no longer be anything to see, apparently nothing more for which to hope. But the light which once shone was not misleading, the vision was not an illusion. The dawning of Easter will show that life can conquer death.

OLOA SCHOOL NEWS

Our Lady of the Assumption School is hiring a short-term Special Education Assistant for April to June 2017. The applicant must have completed a certified Special Education Program. Resumes can be emailed to

[email protected] by March 28, 2017.

COMMENDING OF THE SICK

We commend to your prayers the sick of the parish, including, Elsie Charyna, Betty Dechant, Jack Harrison, Hedwig Haner Kebritz, Venessa Miller, Daphne Nagle and Marie Richard. Thank you.

Stewardship Reflection 2nd Sunday of Lent

“Go forth from the land of your kinsfolk and from your father’s house to a land that I will show you.” Genesis 12:1 God calls all of us to leave behind our old ways and to follow Him, placing our complete trust in Him. Some of the old ways that we may have to struggle to leave behind might be materialism, selfishness and greed. Yet God promises to show us a new land and a better way to live.

MAINTAINING A PRAYERFUL ENVIRONMENT

The procession to and from the communion rail is a liturgical act, done slowly and reverently. Please make way for those who have already received, as they are “living tabernacles” of the Lord’s presence, to be deferred to in courtesy and faith. Also, we ask that once you have received the Eucharist, you not linger at the rail, but allow others also to approach the rail after you. Thank you.

OUTSIDE THE PARISH

On the weekend of April 7-9, there will be a Monastic Life Workshop for ladies interested in the consecrated life, at Westminster Abbey, Mission, BC. For more info call 604 826-8975.
