St. Joseph’s Spring Series for Parents Crookston Diocese’s Office of Formation is offering a Spring Parents Series during this year of St. Joseph. The goal of this series of presentations is to support parents as they seek ways to accompany their children through some of the greater challenges of adolescence. Each session will center on relevant topics and provide participants with helpful information, strategies, and resources. Participants can pre-register for these free events at www.crookston.org/stjoseph
The First Program will be: “Recognizing & Responding to Teen Distress’ presented by Laura Lewis, MA, LPCC-S, on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 from 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM. While being a teenager is hard (especially during a pandemic!) it is equally challenging to know how to best parent and support teens! Join us as we examine the common mental and emotional health trends in young people, as well as the differences between normal ups and downs and more serious problems (i.e., depression, anxiety, substance use, etc.). Learn effective communication strategies for exploring important issues and tools for helping your teen to become the best version of themselves. We encourage all the parents who have their children in our Faith Formation Program to register for these free programs and benefit from the St. Joseph’s Spring Series offered by our diocese.

The Story of Palm Sunday We like to have palm branches at home, and we tuck them behind a crucifix or next to the picture of the Last Supper. To anyone who does not know our faith, it looks as though we stuck a few weeds on the wall… imagine their questions! The truth behind this tradition, however, goes to the story of Palm Sunday, when the people heard that Christ was coming and "they took out palm branches and went out to meet him, and cried out 'Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord” (John 12:13).
It was a tradition to spread palms before a king as he processed into his city. It was a way to welcome him, to show him glory and homage. Thus, Christ, the true King, was welcomed into Jerusalem. This fulfilled the prophecy in the Old Testament, which declared, "Behold: your king is coming to you, a just savior is he, humble and riding on a donkey." (Zech. 9:9) It revealed that Christ was a great king, but also a humble king. The people greeted him with wild joy and cheers of Hosanna. We celebrate this feast and carry palm branches home with us to commemorate the great humility of Our Lord, who loved us so much that he chose the cross for our salvation.
