Please join us in prayer for :
7th Sunday in Ordinary Time Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church February 23, 2020
From the Pastor:
Father Jean-Pierre de Caussade, s.j., a French Jesuit priest, who died in 1751, can help us prepare for Lent:
God’s designs, God’s good pleasure, the will of God, the action of God, and His grace are all one and the same thing in this life. They are God working in the soul to make it like Him-self. Perfection is nothing else than the faithful co-operation of the soul with the work of God, and it begins, grows, and is con-summated in our souls secretly and without our being aware of it….
When God’s designs and will are embraced with simplicity by a faithful soul, they produce this divine state in it without its knowing it, just as medicine taken obediently by a sick man effects his cure even though he neither knows nor is capable of knowing anything about medicine. Similarly, as it is fire and not the philosophy or scientific knowledge of fire that warms us, so it is the will and designs of God that produce sanctity in our souls and not intellectual speculation about this principle and its effects. If we wish to quench our thirst, we must lay aside books which explain thirst, and take a drink. By itself, curiosity for knowledge can only make one thirstier. Thus, when we thirst for holiness, curiosity for theoretical knowledge of it can only drive it further from us. We must put speculation on one side, and with simplicity drink everything that God’s designs present to us in actions and sufferings. What happens to us each moment by God’s design is for us the holiest, best, and most divine thing.
Taste and see how good the Lord is. Spend time with Him in prayer this week!
With love and prayers,
Fr. Francis

7th Sunday in Ordinary Time Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church February 23, 2020
During the season of Lent, the Church urges the faithful to re-flect a spirit of penance in their daily lives through performing
acts of fast and abstinence.
+Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Thursday
February 26: Distribution of Ashes
Ashes will be distributed at Mass: 8 AM, 12:30 PM, 5 PM and 7:30 PM. All Masses will be in the Main Church.
Fast and Abstinence
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence from meat for Catholics. This is a seri-
ous matter within Church law. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence.
Fasting is an obligation from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as
two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal. Snacking between meals is not permitted. Catholics ages 18
-59 are obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Those who are not specifically obliged to fast are encour-
aged to join in the discipline of fasting to the extent that they are able.
Abstinence means not eating meat, poultry or other foods prepared with meat or poultry products. Those who have
reached the age of 14 are obliged to abstain on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of Lent. This obligation continues
throughout our lives
+Remember all Fridays of the year are designated as days of penance during which we are encouraged to practice self-
denial out of gratitude for the suffering and death Jesus accepted for us.

in a special way as the season
of Lent approaches...
To remember our loved ones, living or deceased, or to celebrate a special life event, consider dedication of the Tabernacle Candle in either the Church or Chapel, a donation for Altar Bread and Wine, or a donation for Altar Flowers for a week ( not during Lent) . Flowers will be placed on the altar in the main Church for the weekend and then moved to the Chapel for weekday Masses.
For any of the memorials or dedications, the name of your loved one along with the name of the person making the request will be printed in the Bulletin and they will be remembered in a special way by the Priests as they celebrate Mass. Please call the Parish Office (359-1230) for more information
Weekly Quote from St. Philip Neri
"We must always remember that God
does everything well, although we may not
see the reason of what He does."
An Ash Wednesday Prayer
"Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust."
You remind us today, oh
Lord, of our origin and end.
In the beginning, You fashioned us in the
Garden.
You dignified dust with the Breath of Life.
You made us in Your image and likeness.
You led Your people through the dust of the
Sinai wilderness to the Promised Land.
You overcame temptation in the dry desert.
You healed the blind with dirt and clay.
Three times Your body stirred the dust
as you fell on the road to Calvary.
Hear the cry of Your people!
One day we will return to dust.
This Lenten season, stir our minds to con-
template You, our hearts to love You, and
our bodies to serve You in our brothers and
sisters.
May our prayer, fasting, and almsgiving
be Your breath alive in us.
Amen.

“The Lives of Great Christians” (DVDs)
We enthusiastically look forward to studying the lives
of some of the most famous Christians of all time. Some of the
figures we will examine are St. Clare of Assisi, St. Catherine of
Sienna, St. Theresa of Calcutta, St. Paul, St. Francis of Assisi,
St. Augustine, Martin Luther, his name sake Martin Luther
King, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer. We will view these Christian
lives from many perspectives, and see how people in radically
different political and social circumstances have tried to use
their strength and address their weaknesses in light of their call
to the gospel life,
Professor William R. Cook, Ph.D., Distinguished Teaching Pro-
fessor of History, State University of New York at Genesco will
be the presenter on DVD. During his career Dr. Cook has been
the recipient of many outstanding awards of excellence, pub-
lished several articles and books, and continues to teach and do
historical research.
Come join us as Class begins for twelve weeks on Tuesday,
