Dear Parishioners, As always I hope you are feeling God’s grace during these challenging times. This time of challenge reminds us of the need to pray and to support each other. As a Catholic I passionately believe in the power of prayer. Saint Ignatius of Loyola told his follow-

ers, “work as though everything depends on you but pray knowing everything depends on God.” As a Catholic I believe in miracles and that in Christ all things are possible. Jesus tells us as much in the Gospels. Ultimately, prayer is about opening ourselves to God’s will and receiving God’s grace. Normally in the mystery of life, God does not so much re-move our struggles as He gives us the strength to endure them. There is a story of a man who lived near a river. The dam broke and the river overflowed its banks. The forecast was for several feet of water. The police came by and told the man to leave or he would die in the flood. The man re-sponded, “I am not leaving, Jesus will save me.” As the water rose someone came by in a rowboat and encouraged the man to come in. The man responded “I am not leaving, Jesus will save me.” The water rose higher and the man found himself standing on the roof. A helicopter came by and lowered a ladder. The man responded “I am not leaving, Jesus will save me.” A while later the waters engulfed his house and he drown. When he arrived in heaven he told God he was happy to be there but wanted to know why he wasn’t saved. He said to Jesus, “I prayed and still I wasn’t saved.” Jesus responded, “I did save you. You are here in heaven. As to why you perished on earth, I heard your prayers. I sent you the police, a rowboat, and a helicopter. What more did you want?” The Good Lord has given us our minds to understand, Epidemiologists to teach us, and compassion to care for each other by washing hands, and keeping social distance. Pray always but we must not forget the other tools God gives us. When I had a heart concern, I prayed but I also went to my cardiologist. Faith and science are not mutually exclusive. They never were although there are some in science (and in religious circles) that sadly think they are. There will be one final change in our Mass Schedule. Because of the efficiency of the cleaning teams, we can now return to the 8:00 and 11:00 AM time slots, beginning the weekend of August 15th and 16th. As always please remember to wear face coverings properly and keep distancing. We are all very grateful for the cooperation of so many. I am pleased to announce that Religious Education and Youth ministry are returning to Our Lady of the Woods. All of this is in keeping with the safety guidelines set by the Illinois Catholic Bishops. More details will be coming in future bulletins. A couple of parishioners have asked for Holy water for their homes. Small bottles filled with Holy Water will be available beginning this weekend. Just ask one on the priests after Mass. In Christ,

Father Mike Foley
