There are 3 main ways that desert plants have adapted to arid climates. They are:
•Succulence: capture water and store it in their leaves, stems or roots.
•Drought tolerant plants: have strategies that help them tolerate drought
•Drought avoiding plants: only ‘live’ when there is water available. When it is dry they lie dormant.

Succulence
Succulent plants store water in their fleshy leaves, stems or roots. Desert rains are short and infrequent, so water must be captured and stored.

These plants only survive one season to avoid drought completely.
