2014 Parish Goal Information

Overall 2014 Annual Catholic Appeal Goal = $2.5 million

Formula for Goal:

The formula for the 2014 Annual Catholic Appeal Parish Goal is the same as the

formula used for the 2011, 2012 and 2013 appeals. The goal is based on Sunday,

Holyday, Easter and Christmas Offertory Collections. The Offertory Totals for

each parish are added together for a grand total. The calculation is then made

for each parish indicating what percentage the parish offertory is of the grand

total. That percentage is then applied to the overall Annual Catholic Appeal goal.

2014 Rebate Program:

The rebate program will once again be available for parishes during the 2014

Annual Catholic Appeal. Parishes that went over goal in 2013 will receive a

rebate equal to 80% of the funds raised in excess of the parish goal. All other

parishes going over goal in 2014 will receive a rebate equal to 75% of the funds

raised in excess of the parish goal. Parishes will receive rebate payments on two

occasions. The first payment will reflect Annual Catholic Appeal payments made

through June 30, 2014 and will be issued the second week of July 2014. The

second and final rebate will be for payments received through December 31,

2014. This check will be issued in early January 2015.

Parish Goals:

Pastors will receive their parish goals via the Wednesday Mail to parishes by the

Catholic Foundation staff.

Frequently Asked Questions About The Annual Catholic Appeal

What is the Annual Catholic Appeal?

The Annual Catholic Appeal is our yearly, major fundraising effort to support many of the important

educational, spiritual and service ministries our Diocese offers. All Catholics throughout the Diocese are

asked to support the Annual Catholic Appeal with their prayers and financial resources.

Why should I contribute?

As Catholics, we know in our hearts that each of us is called to support the ministries of our Church. Our

gifts make it possible for our 19-county Diocese to provide vital services to the spiritual and physical

well-being of men, women and children in Northwest Ohio. Our contributions are also our response to

the Bible’s call to stewardship – to be generous with what we have received from God, who is the true

owner.

Is there a minimum I need to donate?

There is no minimum. We are all asked to contribute as generously as we can, in relation to what God

has so graciously given to us. All gifts to the ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL qualify as a tax deduction under

current tax laws.

Do I have pledge options?

Yes, you have a variety of methods to contribute to the ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL, including: check,

direct debit, credit card (VISA, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover), and gifts of stock. You can

make your gift as a one-time gift, or in payments (8 monthly payments, 4 quarterly payments, or two

semi-annual payments). For the security of your gift, please do not send cash.

Can I donate online?

Yes, a simple online payment mechanism is available on our Diocesan website: www.toledodiocese.org.

Click on “Give” at the top of the home page and you will be given step by step instructions.

Does my parish receive funds from the ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL campaign?

Yes, once a parish reaches its goal, 75% of any additional funds raised are rebated back to the parish. If

your parish went over goal in the 2013 appeal, your parish will receive a rebate of 80% of the funds

raised over goal.

Page 15: Our Love of God & Neighbor: A Joy that is Shared!toledodiocese.org/images/uploads/page_assets/Finance/Forms... · “Our Love of God & Neighbor: A Joy that is ... Thank you and God

15

Do the funds raised through the Annual Catholic Appeal support national organizations?

No, our donations and pledges stay local, supporting our own Diocesan ministries

How do Diocesan ministries benefit my parish?

Your parish benefits chiefly from those ministries it cannot supply or effectively achieve for itself. A

prime example is the recruitment and formation of priests and deacons, and their ongoing training after

ordination.

In the area of education, parishes operate schools and conduct religious education classes, but they

receive a significant amount of educational and administrative support from the diocese.

The same holds true for parish administration in general. The Annual Catholic Appeal allows the diocese

to provide the assistance that parishes often need in dealing with legal, personnel and financial issues.

Someone in your parish may have attended a Catholic Charities’ workshop on the moral and ethical

dilemmas we face as we age or a Bereavement workshop. These are all made possible by the Annual

Catholic Appeal.

Another significant recipient of Annual Catholic Appeal funds is our vocations ministry. Our Vocations

staff assists men in recognizing, understanding and responding to their call to the priesthood; and

women to consecrated religious life. This year our Diocese is blessed to have 20 seminarians, and we

look forward to Deacon Matthew Frisbee’s ordination in 2014.

Where can I find out what my pledge supports?

The February issue of the Catholic Chronicle features an advertisement which details the various diocesan ministries supported by the Annual Catholic Appeal. You may also visit the Annual Catholic Appeal webpage on the diocesan website www.toledodiocese.org

SAMPLE PRESENTATIONS FOR COMMITMENT

WEEKEND

Script A: (To be delivered by the Pastor/Pastoral Leader)

This weekend we begin our 2014 Annual Catholic Appeal. This year’s theme is Love of

God & Neighbor: A Joy that is Shared!. This diocesan-wide Appeal funds a variety of ministries,

services, and agencies that assist parishes and parishioners throughout our 19-county diocese.

The generosity of this parish has served as a testament to the strong faith of our people. I ask you

to join me today to prayerfully consider our financial support of these essential programs and

services; remember, our Faith is about helping each other no matter the need or location.

Our long standing television broadcasts of Sunday Mass, our vibrant ministry to 15,000

Catholic students on college campuses, and our support of 20 seminarians are just a few of the

essential ministries that depend upon this appeal. Their importance to our Church and the future

of our Faith are vital; as is the success of this appeal to our continuing ability to effectively minister

to God’s People – our families, our neighbors, our friends.

Script B: (For parishes with Lay Chairpersons)

Introduction (by celebrant)

I have asked (Lay Chairperson(s) to speak to us today about our Faith and our 2014 Annual

Catholic Appeal. I’m grateful that (Lay Chairperson(s) has agreed. We are extremely confident that

with (his/her) leadership, we will be successful in achieving our parish appeal goal.

Please welcome Lay Chairperson(s)

Good morning (evening):

Thank you very much Father/Sister_________. When Father/Sister asked me to talk with

you, I began thinking about all the people (including you and me) who benefit from our support

of the Annual Catholic Appeal. Our (long standing) television broadcasts of Sunday Mass, our

vibrant ministry to 15,000 Catholic students on college campuses, and our support of 20

seminarians are just a few of the essential ministries that depend upon this appeal. We the faithful

are called to make a faith connection and extend the love and responsibility we feel for our parish

to the well-being of our Church throughout our Diocese. Information on the ministries supported

by the Annual Catholic Appeal is available from the 2014 Annual Catholic Appeal brochure. You

can also learn more about them in the February issue of the Catholic Chronicle or at the Annual

Catholic Appeal section of the Diocese of Toledo website WWW.TOLEDODIOCESE.ORG.

Page 17: Our Love of God & Neighbor: A Joy that is Shared!toledodiocese.org/images/uploads/page_assets/Finance/Forms... · “Our Love of God & Neighbor: A Joy that is ... Thank you and God

17

(At this point, you may want to interject some thoughts and comments about

yourself, your family, etc., and how a specific diocesan ministry has affected you.)

This year our parish share of the appeal goal is_ _ _ _ _ . Father/Sister and I are confident

that our parish will make every effort to exceed this goal. Hopefully everyone has received the

appeal brochure and their letter from Father/Sister. If you have not received these materials,

please pick up the brochure and pledge envelope in the back of the church (or in the pew). Please

join Father/Sister and me in prayerfully considering a true sacrificial gift to the appeal to the best

of our financial ability.

By providing the financial resources necessary to support ministry throughout our 19

counties, we will do our part in proclaiming God’s kingdom in our parish and diocese.

Script C: (To be delivered by the Pastor/Pastoral Leader)

This past week you have received information about our 2014 Annual Catholic Appeal. I

trust that you have had a chance to consider your response to this appeal. The ministries

supported by the Annual Catholic Appeal (such as our (long standing) television broadcasts of

Sunday Mass, our vibrant ministry to 15,000 Catholic students on college campuses, and our

support of 20 seminarians …) are very important to our mission of serving God’s people. I

recognize that we have many different worthy entities that need our support. I also recognize

that each family will ultimately determine whom to include in their list of charitable

organizations that they support. I hope that each family will recognize the importance of this

appeal.

When considering a gift please reflect on how generous God has been to you with His

gifts. I ask that you join me in prayerfully considering a gift of sacrifice not of convenience. Our

Annual Catholic Appeal funded ministries are worthy of our support and sacrifice. I’m (calling

on) asking every parishioner to consider the pledge plans in your brochure. Consider if one of

those pledge plans matches the priority that you place on the important ministries this appeal

makes possible. Although we want you to consider one of the pledge plans, I in no way expect

that everyone can make the same pledge. Only you, your family and God can make that

determination. I have complete faith that whatever your choice, it will represent your effort to

do the best you can.

At this point, I will ask everyone to take just a few minutes to make your commitment

and complete a pledge envelope found in your pew. For those of you who have already made a

gift, I thank you for your generosity. In a few minutes, I will ask the ushers to pick up all

envelopes and pledge cards, including those that have been brought today.

Thank you once again for listening today. I ask you to pray with me for the success of our

Annual Catholic Appeal.

Catholic Foundation Pledge Processing

Instructions:

Procedures for Processing Pledges

1. Gather all pledge envelopes and place them separately from the weekly offertory.

2. Open the pledge envelopes, one by one, and look at the name of the parishioner, the total amount pledged and the total amount enclosed – making sure the amounts match. Do not remove checks or correspondence from the envelopes.

3. All parishes are asked to count the total number of pledge envelopes and the total dollars (cash)

received. (You do not need to count the total amount pledged.) Enter this amount on the transmittal sheet. Complete each pledge envelope with the proper parishioner’s FamilyDioID. Please create a new donor record for any new parishioners and fill in all information. Be sure you verify the parishioner does not already have a record in ParishSOFT. No pledge envelopes should be sent without being completely filled in with all important information needed to be processed through the lockbox.

4. Make sure each pledge card/in-pew envelope has the following information:

a. Correct name b. ParishSoft - FamilyDioID c. Total amount of pledge d. Total amount enclosed e. Payment type is checked f. Payment frequency is checked

***If any of the above payment information is missing, please contact your parishioner to verify their intentions. Make sure that the amount written on the pledge card matches the amount of cash in the envelope. If the amount is different, please separate that envelope so that you can call the parishioner to inform them of the discrepancy. ***

5. For parishioners who include CASH with their gift, please separate these envelopes. All cash should be deposited at the parish level and ONE check (payable to the Catholic Foundation) be written to cover the pledges which contained cash. These pledge envelopes should be bound together (with the check on top) so that the bank will understand what the check is covering. (see next page for more details)

6. Complete the transmittal form. Be sure the parish name, city and ParishSOFT ID (6-digit FamilyDioID for your parish) are entered on the form.

7. Include a copy of the transmittal with your lockbox transaction.

Page 19: Our Love of God & Neighbor: A Joy that is Shared!toledodiocese.org/images/uploads/page_assets/Finance/Forms... · “Our Love of God & Neighbor: A Joy that is ... Thank you and God

19

8. ALL pledges should be mailed the address on the bottom of the appropriate transmittal form.

9. Any anonymous gifts should have your parish FamilyDioID written on it in order for us to

properly credit your parish.

PLEASE NOTE: Any cash received and deposited in a parish bank account should be credited to Account #24000 –

Courtesy Exchange. When these monies are submitted, Account #24000 should be debited. If you have any

questions, please call our offices at 419-244-6711. We are here to help and assist each parish in making the

execution of the campaign run smoothly. Thank you for your continued support and hard work on this project;

your talents are greatly appreciated.
