NORTHLAND SEA SCOUTS
A Bay Area Tradition For Over
75 Years
The Northland Nautical Foundation is an all-volunteer, nonprofit California Public Benefit Corporation dedicated to supporting the Rich-mond-based Sea Scout program.
Northland Sea Scouts develop self reliance, self esteem, consideration of others, responsibility and integrity in a manner unparalleled by any other program. As part of the crew operating the SSS NORTHLAND, a 102 foot, 110 ton vessel, our youth learn the meaning of team-work in its most tangible form.
Walk our decks on the ship most weekends, tour the ship, talk to our crew, and meet the officers to learn about our various activities.

THE SEA PROMISE
As a Sea Scout I promise to do my best:
1.To guard against water accidents.
2.To know the location and proper use of the lifesaving devices on every boat I board.
3.To be prepared to render aid to those in need.
4.To seek to preserve the motto of the sea: Women and Children First Donations are tax deductible
COME BY TO VISIT US AND SEE
FOR YOURSELF.
We are located in the historical Port of Rich-
mond at the dock straight across from 1313 Canal Blvd. (in old Dry Dock #4). For more information call our Executive Officer Doug Haight at (510) 685-7243.
MEETINGS - On Saturdays from 10:00am to 4:00pm we are usually working on our ship in the Port, training, or out cruising with our vessels.
Tuesday evening meetings are held from
7:30-9:00pm under our dock in our class-room, or “Landship” where we learn about seamanship and navigation from senior crew members and ship officers. We participate in recycling and plan fund-raising events to help cover the costs of
cruises, uniforms, equipment and other pro-gram expenses.
WELCOME TO THE NORTHLAND SEA SCOUTS
OUR
BOATS...
Our flagship, the SSS NORTHLAND is a former Naval vessel built in 1979– The USS Phoenix; a 102ft torpedo retriever. She’s one of the largest sea
scout ships in the U.S. with sleeping quarters
that accommodate a crew of 34. We have taken our ship on day, weekend and longer summer cruises in the bay, delta & ocean. In addition, we own a variety of small power, sail and rowing boats for our crew to operate.
