Calling All Artists and Creatives!
Each year 4-H hosts the Beef and Dairy Poster contests to promote each industry and educate people about the benefits of the beef and dairy industries. We are excited to provide this opportunity to you again this year. This contests allows you to showcase your creative talents and put together something really fun and different. For the past two years, East Baton Rouge has had winners go on to win on the State Level, and we know this year won’t be any different. Here’s the info:
BEEF POSTER CONTEST All EBR Beef Poster entries are due to the Parish Office by February 28, 2014. All entries must be on an 11” x 14” white poster board. Place your name, address, age, grade in school and parish on the upper right corner on the back of your poster. Posters should generate positive images of beef and beef products and not portray negative image of other food products (i.e. chicken, pork, etc.). Copy written images are prohibited. Please be sure to contact Mr. Shawn for more information.
DAIRY POSTER CONTEST All EBR Dairy Poster entries are due to the Parish Office by February 28, 2014. All entries must be on a 22” x 28” poster board. Place your name, address, age, grade in school and parish on the upper right corner on the back of your poster. Posters should generate positive images of the dairy industry and dairy products and not portray negative image of other food products (i.e. chicken, pork, beef, etc.). The EBR 4-H Cookery Contest was held on Saturday, January 10, 2014 in conjunction with the Parish Livestock Show. We had LOTS of great dishes in a variety of categories. After much debate and careful tasting from our judges, we are proud to announce and congratulate our winners:

Congrats Livestock Club! The East Baton Rouge Parish Livestock Show was held on January 10 and 11, 2014 at the LSU Parker Coliseum. The show was a HUGE success, thanks to all of our sponsors and volunteers! Here are the results of our show:
Shooting Sports Club Shooting Sports Club members, please be mindful of the upcoming practices and contests. Remember, practice makes perfect, so be sure to attend as many practices as possible as we prepare for the Regional and State Shooting Meets. Here are some dates to remember: • February 15 — Shooting Sports Practice • March 1 — Shooting Sports Practice • April 5 — Shooting Sports Practice (last practice) The Regional Shoot will take place March 13 through March 16, 2014 in the Baton Rouge Metro Area. Only trained shooting sports participants are eligible for competition. Please contact Ms. Abby for registration information. The State Shoot will take place April 24 through April 27, 2014. Please mark your calendars for these dates.

Summer 2014– Make it one to remember!
The summertime is always fun, but a summer with 4-H is really one for the record books. Over those two months away from classrooms and schoolbooks, EBR 4-H has several different programs and activities to take part in. Here are some opportunities available to you. Think ahead, and start planning NOW…
411 on 4-H University
For those of you who are unfamiliar with 4-H U, it is a 3 day experience on LSU’s campus for any 4-H’ers between the ages of 13-18. Participants will choose one contest out of over 30 possibilities to train for during the spring and compete in at the event. 4-H’ers also have the opportunity to stay in the dorms with participants from all over Louisiana, tour campus facilities, and get their groove on at the dance each night! This year, 4-H U is scheduled for June 17-20, 2014. If you are interested in learning about more information please contact Ms. Abby. 4-H Summer Camp
Ready for an experience of a lifetime? No summer is really complete without a trip to summer camp! Be sure to put 4-H Summer Camp on YOUR calendar. East Baton Rouge Parish will be attending 2014 Summer Camp at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, Louisiana July 7-11, 2014. Camp is open to any 9-12 year old 4-H’ers in East Baton Rouge Parish. Camp cost this year is $225.00. This includes camp fees, a parish picture, a camp t-shirt, $20.00 to be spent at the Camp Store, and transportation and food costs. If you would like to register for Camp please contact Ms. Abby at the Parish Office for more information and the proper forms. Remember, it is never too early to register for Camp, as we are limited to 50 spots!

Scholarship Time for Seniors
Although going off to college is an exciting time in life, it can also be very expensive. 4-H is here to help with your financial needs through parish and state scholarship opportunities. All high school seniors in East Baton Rouge Parish must complete their 4-H Scholarship forms and turn them into the Parish Office by Friday, February 28, 2014.
