GIFTED WITH GOD’S PEACE &

GRACE

GOD'S PEACE

As I face the rising sun, Feeling its warmth and promise of the

new day, I thank the loving God for gracing me with His peace, in

my home, in my heart, and within the depths of my soul. Amen

Plant the seed and bring a friend!

The Second Vatican Council has called us to envision the Church

as the People of God. As a community of believers we are respon-sible for our brothers and sisters, their salvation, their journey of faith, their physical well-being. Many of the documents of Vati-can II and volumes of work since the mid-1960s give us advice, guidelines, and encouragement to take care of one another: the poor, the elderly, the unborn, the broken, the infirm. Because Vatican II is part of our recent history, this may strike us as a new and revolutionary idea. But today’s readings show us the agelessness of the issue of social justice. Eight hundred years before Christ was born, Amos warned the wealthy not to cheat the poor. In Paul’s first letter to Timothy, he encourages all pray-ers to be for all people; and finally, the Gospel urges the wise use of money. Peace, Fr. Frank

Birth Parents Must Take Action to Preserve Their Privacy

For well over a century, the Catholic Church in New Jersey has provided adoption services. Throughout all those years, the Church promised to honor the privacy of birth parents and adopt-ees. That promise of privacy also was assured by law and af-firmed by the State Superior Court. Those promises can no long-er be kept. On May 27, 2014, a new law took effect that will allow adoptees and certain relatives to request and obtain the names of their biological parents beginning January 1, 2017. Any birth parents who wish to preserve their privacy must submit a Redaction Request Form to the New Jersey Department of Health no later than December 31, 2016. By filing this form, birth parents will be able to keep their names off any documents provided by the State to adoptees or anyone else. The State made the Redaction Request Form public on August 3, 2015. The form can be downloaded at http://nj.gov/health/forms/reg-36c.pdf If you know a person who placed a child in adoption, please tell them that if they do not file a Redaction Request Form, their name and other information could be given to the adoptee. Any-one needing assistance can call a HELPLINE AT 609-989-4809.

YEAR OF MERCY

Excerpts from Pope Francis’ letter on the Year of Mercy

The Church is called above all to be a credible witness to mercy, professing it and living it as the core of the revelation of Jesus Christ. From the heart of the Trinity, from the depths of the mystery of God, the great river of mercy wells up and overflows unceasingly. It is a spring that will never run dry, no matter how many people

draw from it. Every time someone is in need, he or she can ap-proach it, because the mercy of God never ends. The profundity of the mystery surrounding it is as inexhaustible as the richness which springs up from it.

BIBLE STUDY BEGINNING IN THE FALL

Once again Sr. Esther is offering Bible Study classes in the Fall. This year our study will be on the Gospel of St. John. It will take the form of videos, discussions and, of course coffee with lite refreshments. If you want to know what it means to really follow Christ, and if you would like to have a deeper relationship with him, then you are invited to join us for Follow Me, be-

ginning on Sept. 12 and ending on Oct. 31. Classes will be held each Monday morning from 9:30-10:30 am in the lower meeting room of the new Parish Life Center. In addition, Sister will offer the course on Wednesday evenings beginning on Sept. 14-Nov. 2 from 7:00 – 8:00 PM in the same location. In the past participants found it helpful to purchase the workbook. The cost is $18. This also covers the registration fee.

FUTURE ENGINEERS IN THE MAKING AT MOTHER SETON HIGH SCHOOL

Two new engineering programs will be initiated at Mother Seton this year for girls. In these courses, students will enjoy hands-on exposure in the soon-to-be dedicated Sr. Regina Martin Engineering Center. One class is entitled “Engineering Design Process.” Students will be empowered to develop the 21st century skills necessary to create, design, and innovate real world challenges and solutions. In cooperative learning groups, stu-dents will brainstorm, build prototypes, and do test runs of their creations. Mother Seton is one of eleven schools in the Archdio-cese of Newark that will offer this new engineering design course as part of its curriculum. The second course is called “Exploring Engineering” and focuses on computer programming and elec-tronics. The first year is dedicated to coding, and the second year is spent working with electronics and will be taught by Miss Louella Estillero. Louella is a 2010 graduate of Mother Seton and one of their current Math teachers Mother Seton will host an Open House on Sunday, September 25, from 1-3pm for girls in grades 5-8 and a Seton Science Workshop on Saturday, October 15 from 8:30-11:30am which will include engineering work-shops.
