A Note From Rachelle
Rachelle, Sandi and Cupcakeenjoying the fireplace.
The 2nd half of the decade isstarting this year and I am sure itwill be as exciting as the first. Overthe past several years we haveexperienced some very difficultevents such as mass shootings, terror attacks, and extremeweather. However, there are alsomany wonderful things that haveoccurred showing that at least partof our society is moving andlooking forward. We have seenNASA make great strides in spaceexploration, including findingwater on Mars and transmittingsome amazing new pictures andstudies of Mercury that show icein the polar regions. They alsosent Captain Scott Kelly to theInternational Space Station for 1year to study the effects of spaceon one’s body. The reason whyCaptain Kelly was chosen wasbecause he has a twin brother, who is also an astronaut, whostayed here on Earth so they can
compare what happens to theirbodies. I can’t wait to see whatthey find.
In 2015 alone we saw somesignificant changes in thediplomatic world. We reopenedthe US Embassy in Cuba andtravel restrictions were eased. In1961, the US severed all ties withCuba following the Cuban MissileCrisis. The US also agreed to aNuclear Deal with Iran that wouldhave Iran transform their NuclearPlants into Science Researchfacilities.
It is easy to focus on thenegative things that are happeningaround the world, but if you justtake a little time you can see thereis good happening all around. Wejust don’t see the good things onthe news very often. The mediaaccentuates the negative anddownplays the positive. However,we don’t need the media to seethe positive. There are randomacts of kindness happening all ofthe time. We do occasionally hearabout someone paying for theStarbucks order of the personbehind them in line, or givingtoys to the needy at Christmas. There is more good than bad inthe world, and we need toremember this.

SpotlightResident
Belmont Village & RehabCarewould like to congratulate Ms.
Sue Johnson for herachievements with Physical and
Occupational Therapy. Suemoved to Belmont after a fall,
limiting her mobility andcausing her to be wheelchair
bound. She was unable to safelyperform her daily activitieswithout proper assistance.
Through balance & strengthtraining, she has progressed to
independently using her walkerfor mobility.
Her favorite therapeutic exercisewas to walk outside on the grass
which works on balance withunstable surfaces. Ms. Johnson is
a delightful resident, and herfamily loves her improvements. We congratulate her on the hardwork and wish her the very best!
