Our training centre in Leipzig-BorsdorfOur training centre is a modern service provider offering companies, employees and trainees a wide range of training, skills development and advisory services.

Introduction

The training centre in Leipzig-Borsdorf is a respected partner for crafts and medium-sized enterprise throughout the Leipzig region and beyond. It is operated by the Chamber of Skilled Crafts and Trades Leipzig. We are located on the outskirts of the city, only 24 km from Leipzig/Halle international airport and 180 km from Berlin.

Training

We provide initial specialised training in more than 30 trades and crafts. Almost 4,000 trainees take advantage of the training centre’s facilities.

Further training

We offer a broad choice of further training and skills development courses for career development. The range includes management, commercial and technical skills.

Master craftsman – “Meister”

Qualification as a master craftsman or -woman is the focus of a career in the crafts. The title is popular among people thinking about founding their own business, and among craftsmen and women wishing to move into management. The “Meister” course incorporates elements of business administration, management, trade law and vocational teaching skills, as well as the theory and practice of the craft. The title “Meister” of a trade or craft is legally protected.

Our sites

In addition to the main Chamber of Skilled Crafts and Trades offices near the centre of Leipzig, we have two training sites close to the city.

Our training centre in Borsdorf is certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2008. We are continually modernising our facilities and introducing innovative processes, guaranteeing the quality of the training we offer. Over 60 workshops on the 54,000 sqm site are used for technical training.

The main Chamber of Skilled Crafts and Trades offices lie close to the centre of the city. The building has seminar rooms and a conference room which are used for commercial and management training. The impressive struc-ture was originally built in 1907 as a printers, and its wonderful façade is protected by a preservation order.

The centre for environment and transfer in Trebsen is a centre of compe-tence for environmental protection, environment-friendly construction and building preservation. The centre is the first port of call for builders and architects in Germany with questions regarding the use of renewable primary products, energy-efficient buildings and renovation. The centre is located on an old estate in the countryside east of Leipzig and is one of only ten environmental centres for crafts and trades in Germany.

6 Areas of expertise | Welding

Our course structures are flexible, allowing individual requirements regar-ding content and length to be reflected; the length given here is intended as a guideline. We can also offer specialist language courses. After comple-ting the training course, every participant receives a certificate from the Chamber of Skilled Crafts and Trades documenting the areas covered.

Welding

The Chamber of Skilled Crafts and Trades’ welding school is certified by the DVS, the German association for welding and allied processes. It is also certified according to DIN EN ISO 17024 via DVS-PersZert®, and according to DIN EN ISO 9001.

Courses � International welding specialist incl. European welding specialist (314

hours): This course qualifies participants to supervise and evaluate welding operations; successful participants receive the internationally recognised DVS-PersZert® certificate.

� International welder (duration depends on field): Participants are quali-fied in non-automatic welding techniques; the course includes modules on metal active gas welding, tungsten inert gas welding, electro arc wel-ding and gas welding. Each module concludes with the internationally recognised qualification test for welders.

Prior experience of assembling metal constructions is recommended before commencing these courses.

Plastics processing

The large number of plastic products and processing techniques means that training courses with industry-specific content are essential. There is a clear trend towards increased use of plastics in many areas, from automobiles to windows and doors, and the highly qualified instructors at our training centre are all familiar with the latest developments in the field. The courses teach the correct application of various techniques for working with plastics, based on guidelines from IKV at RWTH Aachen University.

Courses � Window-making, fittings and assembly: plastic window frames

(40 hours): The course teaches the manufacture and installation of poly- vinylchloride-unplasticized window profiles, and includes an introduction into acrylic glass handling.

� Bonding and laminating plastics (40 hours): This course gives training in techniques for bonding different plastics.

Automotive technology

The high levels of innovation in the car manufacturing, one of the most knowledge-intensive industries of all, require skilled workers. The content of our courses is continuously updated, and our teaching workshops are equipped to keep up with the rapid pace of technical progress.

Courses � Vehicle service technician (350 hours): This course concludes with a quali-

fication recognized throughout Germany and is conceived for specialists who need to advise customers on the maintenance, repair and service of their vehicles.

� Air conditioning (8 hours): The seminar concentrates on fault diagnosis and troubleshooting.

� Airbags and belt pretensioning systems (8 hours): The course looks at seat belts and airbags in the light of the latest EU regulations.

� Master craftsman: vehicle service technician (960 hours): The master craftsman title is required for anyone wanting to head an automotive workshop in Germany.

Plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning

Germany is a world leader in renewable energy technology. Increasing environmental awareness and the rising demand for new technologies making more efficient use of resources such as water, fossil fuels and energy are opening up global markets with vast growth potential.

Courses leading to a qualification recognised throughout Germany � Specialist for solar technology (200 hours): The course incorporates know-

how on photovoltaic system concepts and assembly, solar-thermal systems, heating technology, heat load calculation and customer service. Previous experience of system assembly or energy technology is an advantage.

� Building energy consultant (240 hours): The course qualifies participants as consultants for thermal insulation and heating systems, and as moder-nisation concept planners.

Courses leading to a certificate from the Chamber of Skilled Crafts and Trades � Installation of BUS systems (40 hours): The course qualifies to install sys-

tems which automatically control light, shade and heating in buildings. � Oil-fired furnaces (8 hours): Qualification for specialists in servicing and

repair of forced air burners which can be used with any oil-gas-special boiler. � Hydraulic calibration and optimization of heating systems (8 hours):

Participants become expert in limiting volume of water flow and controlling differential pressure to reduce noise problems.

Construction, building extension and renovation

The use of ecologically-compatible materials to construct new, energy-sa-ving buildings and renovate old houses opens up future-oriented markets. Investment in property in the form of renovating old buildings is currently very popular, and our courses are very practically oriented, making use of best practices to communicate course content.

Courses � Specialist for drywall construction (185 hours): The course includes

building physics, construction systems and specialist mathematics; also installation in acoustic and drywall construction.

� Wattle-and-daub (16 hours): The course focuses on the use of this ecolo-gically sound method in building restoration, and includes construction and testing procedures, ready-to-use products and practical instruction in creating angles.

� Plastering (48 hours): This course offers skills for plasterers and renovators. In addition to information on plastering machines, pump systems and finis-hing, participants deal with historical plaster types used in the restoration.

Management and organisation

Entrepreneurial ways of thinking and acting are essential if a company is to be managed successfully. We offer a range of courses and seminars in which the skills needed for good management can be acquired. The palette of com-mercial training courses covers the spectrum from assistant to manager.

Courses � “Technischer Fachwirt (HWK)” (270 hours): The course to become a

technical manager includes fundamental knowledge in accounting, cont-rolling, commercial principles at work, law and taxation. The qualification is recognized throughout Germany.

� Master craftsman (duration depends on field): This further training course is suitable for skilled workers who wish to take on management duties or start up their own company. The course leads to the award of the “Meisterbrief”, the master craftsman‘s certificate that is recognised Europe-wide.

� “Geprüfter Betriebswirt nach der Handwerksordnung” (700 hours): The course builds on the content of the master craftsman course and focuses on business administration. The title “Geprüfter Betriebswirt nach der Handwerksordnung” is the highest qualification in the crafts. Course content includes business organisation, planning, finance and accounting, marketing, personnel management, law and macroeconomics.

About the Chamber of Skilled Crafts and Trades Leipzig

The training centre in Leipzig-Borsdorf is operated by the Chamber of Skilled Crafts and Trades Leipzig. This Chamber is a self-governing organisation under public law. It represents the interests of about 12,000 small an medi-um sized enterprises in politics as well as vis-à-vis the public administration. It plays an active role in national and international networks of chambers and associations representing skilled crafts and small businesses.

To support business owners an craftsmen, the Chamber of Crafts offers its members several services, for instance management consultancy, legal consultancy, debt recovery service, assistance in foreign trade and a multitu-de of further vocational training courses.

Examinations und certificates

Courses with a duration of 200 hours or longer conclude with an examination and recognised qualifications. In all other courses and training modules, par-ticipants receive certificates from the Chamber of Skilled Crafts and Trades.
