Our North African market has a strong dealer network. Middle men distributing our batteries successfully across a relatively unexplored and untapped market. This arrangement would do for some but not for Reem. We wanted direct distributors. But because we value all our customers we had to think of a way that wouldn’t interfere or upset our existing customer base. In true Reem fashion we developed a totally new battery brand specifi cally for this purpose. Power Pack was born and it pioneered our direct access into North Africa.

The Technology

• Absolutely maintenance free sealed lead acid battery without any FREE liquid inside as the electrolyte is immobilized inside “Absorptive Glass Mat” (AGM) separators.

• The oxygen generated while overcharging is not allowed to escape and is routed through the AGM separator towards the negative electrode where it is converted to water by “oxygen recombination” cycle.

• No vent plugs but there are non-return valves which open when battery inside pressure goes up and vent out gases without allowing air to rush in. Hence, the name Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) batteries.

Difference between normal fl ooded MF and AGM VRLA (See Fig 1. and Fig 2.)

• Although normal MF batteries (Fig 1.) are sealed they need to be handled carefully. Shaking or keeping the batteries in tilted or upside down conditions would lead to leakage of acid.

• In an AGM VRLA battery (Fig 2.) the entire acid is stored inside spongy material called “Absorptive Glass Mat” (AGM) separator and there is NO free liquid inside the battery. This makes the battery absolute maintenance free even in tilted or in upside down conditions. It is spill proof.
