Churchwide Christmas Party Wednesday, December 6

Join us following the Children’s Choirs program for our church Christmas party. We will gather as a church family in the FLC for refreshments and Christmas fellowship.

Christmas Worship Opportunities

“One Small Child” The First Baptist Church Senior Adult JOY-Makers Choir

Sunday, December 3—4pm

“It is amazing today that salvation came to us through one small Child. But the eyes and hearts of the people in that day 2000 years ago did not realize it. “Not here – in the little town of Bethlehem. Not now – when the

Romans must be conquered by a military might. Not Him. This is a peasant’s Child.”

But these are the same excuses we use today for not accepting the gift of salvation through Jesus! “Not here. I need to wait until I’m in a better place. Not now. I’m too busy. Not Him. There has to be a different path.”

Salvation came to earth through One Small Child. His name is Jesus.

“The Christmas Candles” Children’s Choirs Christmas Musical Drama

Wednesday, December 6—6:30 pm

Isn’t it fun to decorate our homes for the Advent and Christmas season? As we pull each box out of storage special memories help to make it a time of significant meaning.

Chris has a lot of work to get done before his house is decorated for Christmas! Join Chris, the prophets, Hebrews, shepherds and angels, and most importantly, the Advent Candles, as

the story of Jesus’ birth is retold.

“Jesus! The Advent of the Messiah” The First Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir, accompanied by an orchestral ensemble

Sunday, Dec. 11—11:00am & 5:00pm

This musical presentation reflects solely on the Holy Child, Jesus. We will examine the impact of His arrival and what it meant for all who would receive this life-altering gift. Through powerful original songs, favored carols and dramatic

spirituals, the story is told and the question is asked: “Is there room in my heart for Him?” Let us celebrate the season of His birth and honor the gift of a Savior – our Savior – JESUS!

We welcome our church family, friends and community to join us for this special musical offering. A love offering will be received at both presentations.

Hanging of the Greens Sunday, December 3—8:30 & 11am Worship Service

The Advent season is upon us--a time of preparation. Church members are already unpacking, fluffing and straightening to be ready to adorn God’s house with all of the symbols of the season. Our children’s and adult

choirs have been working hard to be able to share with you the songs of Jesus' birth.

The Hanging of the Greens provides an opportunity to prepare both God’s house and ourselves. But most importantly, we will gather as the FBC family to worship the Savior and to be reminded that God's precious gift of His Son is the reason we

celebrate. Invite someone to experience with you the joy of the season as we prepare for the coming of Christ.

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service Sunday, Dec. 24th at 5:30pm (one service only)

Celebrate the eve of our Savior’s birth with the family of FBC in our sanctuary.

Childcare for children ages birth – 3 years will be provided during all worship services.

MISSIONARY: GRAG & SUE SMITH LOCATION: FREDERICKSBURG, VA

Greg and Sue work with the Latino-Hispanic community in the Greater Fredericksburg (VA) Area through their local organization, LUCHA Ministries, Inc. LUCHA Ministries began in 2004 as a joint CBF/United Methodist effort to reach the 1st generation and immigrant Latino population of the city of Fredericksburg and the counties of Stafford and Spotsylvania.

LUCHA Ministries provides a variety of social, spiritual and community-based ministries, counseling services, English-as-a-Second Language, an annual school supplies distribution, an after-school program, a Latino Food Pantry ministry, and others. Through Project ¡Adelante!, it empowers immigrants to “move forward” and learn a new

skill, engage in helping others, or get involved in a community activity. LUCHA also networks with many other organizations in the community to ensure that persons with limited English proficiency have access to community programs and services.

MISSIONARY: DIANE & SHANE MCNARY LOCATION: SLOVAKIA

Dianne and Shane McNary are Cooperative Baptist Fellowship field personnel ministering among the Roma people in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Working in partnership with local ministries and organizations in Vazec and Cinobana, Slovakia and Decin, Czech Republic, they offer encouragement, expertise and support to local leaders.

Engaging in long-term cross-cultural missions is an investment in the Reign of God where the results may never be fully known. The McNary’s shared, “We have been blessed to have hosted many short-term ministry teams in the twelve years we have been fully funded by the Offering.

The McNary’s ministry focuses broadly on the following life-changing ministries: Poverty and Transformational Development; Church Starting and Faith Sharing; Education; Justice and Peacemaking; and Healthcare.

MISSIONARY: ANNA & LACOUNT ANDERSON LOCATION: HALIFAX COUNTY, NC Anna and LaCount Anderson are Cooperative Baptist Fellowship field personnel serving in Halifax County and Northeastern North Carolina with Together for Hope, CBF’s rural poverty initiative, focusing on providing poverty relief to men, women and children experiencing homelessness and the near-homeless.

The Andersons reach out to these populations through running a men’s homeless shelter and a women’s transitional house that provides a program of recovery from homelessness, a food donation system and poverty education around the community to gain local partners in their work. The Andersons are also involved with the Balance of State Program that helps to secure permanent supportive housing for individuals experiencing homelessness. LaCount serves as the Executive Director of Union Mission of

Roanoke Rapids, a community center and homeless shelter. Anna also works with Union Mission serving as the women’s chaplain. They are also involved in helping to resource home repair for residents who are living in substandard housing.

MISSIONARIES: CHRIS AND SARAH COOKE LOCATION: PAPUA NEW GUINEA Chris and Sarah Cooke are missionaries to Papua New Guinea. They are working with an organization called Samaritan Aviation which uses float planes to help aid with medical emergencies and bring light and hope to the people of Papua New Guinea. Through your support they have had a tremendous impact on the tribes people there.

Samaritan Aviation operates some of the only float planes in Papua New Guinea, the second largest island in the world. They currently serve in the East Sepik Province whose population is estimated at 500,000. They serve those living in the East Sepik through emergency evacuation flights, medicine delivery, disaster relief and community health programs.

Samaritan Aviation exists to demonstrate God’s love by providing aviation and medical services in remote areas. Eighty percent of the residents within the East Sepik Province live in remote areas without access to the one hospital in this province. 220,000 of those residents live along a large river called the Sepik. Samaritan Aviation is providing access to critical medical care and health services that in most cases might not otherwise be available

WHITE CHRISTMAS FOOD BOX MINISTRY (VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED)

For our White Christmas Food Box Ministry we are committed to provide 100 food boxes for families through Project Christmas Cheer. The approximate cost per box of food will be $52. In addition to the 100 boxes we are partnering with Project Christmas Cheer to pack and distribute another 200 food boxes to our community. (Funds will be provided by Project Christmas Cheer.)

This year we are asking families to come pick up their food box here at the church. We are providing three different days for pick up. As you can see this is a huge opportunity and extremely important ministry to pack and distribute 300 food boxes. You may help in the following ways:

GIVE FINANCIALLY: As of Wednesday, November 22 we need approximately $700 to purchase the 100 boxes we are committed to provide. Checks may

be made payable to First Baptist Church and indicate “White Christmas” on the memo line. Contributions need to be in by December 10.

CALLING FAMILIES: Families need to be called to let them know they will receive a food box and where and when to pick up the box. Calls may be made

during the day or evening. Calling needs to start on November 27th.

PACKING BOXES: The dates for packing boxes are: Wednesday, December 13 at 6:30pm and Thursday, December 14 at 10am

FOOD BOX DISTRIBUTION: Volunteers will be needed to check in families as they arrive to pick up boxes, to add the perishable items to the food boxes,

and to help carry out food boxes to vehicles. The dates for distribution are: Saturday, December 16 – 9am till 1pm, Sunday, December 17 – 1pm till 4pm, and Monday, December 18 – 5pm till 8pm

If you can assist in any of these areas please contact Darrell Williams in the church office or sign up at www.fbcmhc.org/white_christmas_sign_up .

Southern Baptists have always focused on missions. From the beginning, they saw a need for people with experience to take the Good News of Jesus to those who’ve never heard. Decades of learning from successes—and failures—have fine-tuned a mandate to inspire, encourage, and send workers. Nearly 4,900 missionaries sent out through International Mission Board (IMB) are sharing their faith around the world. But they can’t reach the world alone.

Gifts through the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering and Cooperative Program make all this possible. Southern Baptists’ faithful giving undergirds the thousands of missionaries sent from our churches, through IMB, and all for a

single, eternal purpose: making disciples in the name of Jesus. This is what it means for all of us, together, to be totally His.

The CBF Offering for Global Missions is the way many CBF field personnel are supported in ministry. Your gifts to the

Offering are what send them to the mission field and keep

them there to be and share the presence of Christ.
