*Called to Worship Opening Hymn For All the Saints (vs. 1-4) UMH 711
*Invocation (1 Corinthians 15)
Leader: Sisters and brothers, listen to this mystery!
All: We will not all die, but we will all be changed,
Leader: For ‘Death has been swallowed up in victory.’
All: ‘Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death is your sting?’
All: Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord
Jesus Christ.
Opening Prayer (in unison)
Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellow-
ship in the mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord. Grant us grace so to
follow your holy saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to
those unspeakable joys which you have prepared for those who sincerely love
you; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

fundraiser. If you can spare
some time to help with this
worthwhile project, please

Tiffany Window Tours The busy tours of the
sanctuary and Tiffany
Windows are coming to an
end as October winds
down. We have had visi-
tors from all over the
United States, Canada,
and Europe. These tours
could not have been
successful without the assistance of Cathy
Schlickman, the tour guides Mary Arm-
strong, Cheryl Vahl, Laurinda Brimeyer
and Morgan Frazer and many from the
church who helped as visitors came in
daily to view the Tiffany Windows.
We heard many comments like: “they are
beautiful,” “I have never seen anything
like these,” it is so serene,” “what a beauti-
ful place to worship” and compliment after
compliment. It was an honor to host these
people and make us aware of the treasures
we have in our church.
The proceeds from the tours make it possi-
ble to repair the windows that are in need
of attention to last another 100 years.

O n November 6, 1833, Barton
Randle preached the first sermon
on Iowa soil. In honor of this
anniversary, there will be a church tour
on November 8, 9:30-10:30 a.m., held in
the sanctuary led by church historian
Betty Phillips and Laurinda Brimeyer.
They will be pointing out our numerous
"treasures" and telling the stories behind
many of them. All interested people are
invited to attend!

Called to Remember All Saint’s Sunday
(A representative of each family of those being memorialized
is invited to come and sit in the front pews. As your loved one’s
name is read, you are invited to light a memorial candle.)
Reader 1: Ever-living God, this day revives in us memories of loved ones
who are present with us no more. What happiness we shared
when they walked among us. What joy when, loving and being
loved, we lived our lives together.
Congregation: Their memory is a blessing forever.
Reader 2: Months or years may have passed, and still we feel near to
them. Our hearts yearn for them. Though the bitter grief has
softened, a duller pain abides; for the place where once they
stood is empty now. The links of life are broken, but the links
of love and longing cannot break.
Congregation: Their souls are bound up in ours
forever.
Reader 1: We see them now with the eye of memory, their faults
forgiven, their virtues grown larger. So does goodness live, and
weakness fade from sight. We remember them with gratitude
and bless their names.
Congregation: Their memory is a blessing forever.
Reader 2: And we remember as well the members who but yesterday
were part of our congregation and community. To all who
cared for us and labored for all people, we pay tribute. May we
prove worthy of carrying on the tradition of our faith, for now
the task is ours.
Congregation: Their souls are bound up in ours
forever.
Reader 1:
Gracious and victorious God, we give you thanks that they
now live and reign with you. Hear now, as we read the names
of those for whom we give thanks this day.
We name before you these who were connected to St. Luke’s
United Methodist Church of whose funeral service or
memorial service was conducted by our clergy, and,
who during the past twelve months, have departed from this life
to join the Church Triumphant: (As each name is read, a representative of that family will step
to the worship center and light a memorial candle.)
Reader 2: For the memory of these, O God, we give you thanks.
Congregation: Their memory is a blessing forever.
Reader 1: Most merciful God, we pause in silence to remember others
from our families, from our communities, and from our net-
works of friends, who, during the past twelve months, have
departed from this life to join the Church Triumphant.
(A candle is lit during a moment of silence.) For the memory
of these, O God, we give you thanks.
Congregation: Their memory is a blessing forever.
