Targeted Audience: All teachers and administrators
Designing and Delivering a Brain-
compatible Lesson: 20
Instructional Strategies That
Engage All Students. To plan and
deliver brain-compatible lessons
that address the learning styles of
all students.
Assessment: How do we know
they are learning? To design and
utilize both traditional and
authentic forms of assessment to
evaluate student learning.
While we know that not all brains are the same, there are teachers who consistently meet the needs of various brains in a well-managed, proactive classroom. Learn the secrets these teachers already know as they maximize instructional time and minimize disruptions.
Design brain-based learning activities that inspire active learning using proven teaching tools!
Attention spans, subject interest, learning
styles, and even levels of understanding vary
from student to student. Just as every
student is different, teachers have their own
personalities and teaching styles. Yet years
of research confirm that certain teaching
tools awaken the desire to learn in students
by engaging their brains; once their brains
are engaged, synthesis, and retention of
information will soar!
Participants will:
Experience 20 brain compatible strategies for delivering an effective lesson.
Learn rituals and routines to create a well managed proactive classroom environment.
Develop a classroom management plan which addresses unique student needs.
Learn how to design a brain-compatible classroom environment.
Learn strategies for managing students who provide teachers with exceptional behavior challenges including learned helplessness, ADD, oppositional and conduct disorders.
Dr. Tate believes that actively engaging students in the learning process is the best way for them to succeed in school and in life.
Some brain-based learning strategies that help students make connections include: writing, storytelling, using visuals, role playing, games, technology and music.
These hands-on techniques will help you teach reading in relevant, motivating, and engaging ways. The activities cover essential areas of literacy instruction, including: Phonemic awareness Phonics and vocabulary instruction Text comprehension Reading authentically, widely and
strategically Writing strategically Creating, critiquing, and discussing texts Conducting research Using technological resources Respecting diversity in language Participating in literary communities Using language to accomplish purposes Invite your students to use their higher-level thinking skills, increase their comprehension, and make the learning their own!

It stands to reason that if students
are not learning the way we are
teaching them, then we must teach
them the way they learn!
Students come to class with many different
ways of knowing. Experience 20 brain-
compatible strategies for unwrapping those
gifts, strategies such as role play, drawing,
music, or movement. Once teachers have
taught students in these ways, how do we
know that they have truly learned what we
have taught? Experience over 50 ways
(including the use of products and
performances) to determine if those
strategies are making a difference in student
achievement in your classroom.
This workshop will deal with both traditional
and more authentic forms of assessment
since both forms should be included in a
student’s overall portfolio. After all, isn’t it
better for students to produce their own
knowledge rather than to simply reproduce
yours!
