The outdoor news this February at IKEA is a blend of classics and tropical feelings. The new ÄNGSÖ series, in black-brown or white, is sure to become a favourite with its distinct traditional character. The foldable MÄLARÖ series, already an IKEA classic in white, now comes in red and green and includes a new, foldable sidewalk cafe-style table.

There’s a tropical feeling in this year’s seasonal summer colours, too, with bright orange and turquoise. Favourites like the ROXÖ series and IKEA PS VÅGÖ easy chair don these sizzling seasonal colours. As do the portable, light weight HÅMÖ chairs and loungers. There’s also the striped MYSINGSÖ beech framed lounger that screams for a day at the beach. And not so tropical in colour, but definitely laid-back is the new, curvaceous and generous SKARPÖ armchair.

Fix yourself a tall glass of lemonade to set the warm, summer mood. There’s plenty of outdoor furniture waiting inside.

Start your own traditionsÄNGSÖ series

Made of solid pine that’s painted white or black-brown, the new ÄNGSÖ series of outdoor furniture adds traditional style to life outdoors – whether you’re gathering neighbours for a classic cinema street party or family for a cool outdoor. A spot by the seaÄPPLARÖ series

Spending all day by the sea? Why not make things feel more like home with a breezy, beachside room? An ÄPPLARÖ gazebo and modular furniture create a bit more of a personal and private space to relax and come together.

New ÄPPLARÖ gazebo has four solid wood acacia corner pillars in a dark brown finish and a 100% polyester fabric roof. At 300 cm x 300 cm and 275 cm tall, the gazebo creates plenty of room for lounging around. And ÄPPLARÖ gazebo blocks 49/50 UV units for extra sun protection.

Modular seating is meant to go big – and small! Turn a balcony into a cosy lounge for you and your VIP with a two-seat sofa made from GARPEN corner sections. Add in a GARPEN stool and there’s space to stretch out or a place set your snacks, too. Solar-powered lighting in the SOLVINDEN series builds the ambiance without adding extra cost to your electric bill or creating a mess with cords.

GARPEN modular seating is made of woven plastic rattan with a rustproof aluminum frame, which makes it lightweight and stackable to save space during off seasons. At 71 cm wide, you need less than 1.5 metres to make a cosy two-seat sofa. And all of the GARPEN series doesn’t require any maintenance.

SOLVINDEN lighting series harnesses the power of the sun to generate warm white LED lighting. Pictured here are SOLVINDEN half-globes and light chains in globes and flowers. Start the day outdoors LÄCKÖ table and chairs

Breakfast tastes better with sunshine, so bring the coffee, eggs and cereal onto the balcony. With the LÄCKÖ series now in a new crisp and bright white, it’s easy to create a romantic space on the balcony to start the day. Since LÄCKÖ table and chairs are made of steel with a powder coating, they require no maintenance and are easy to keep clean. And with a bit of textile creativity, those steel seats can be even softer.

LÄCKÖ table seats 2 to 4 and disassembles easily for storage.

LÄCKÖ chairs are stackable and have a cut-out design in the seat bottom that allows water to drain through.

Designer Jon Karlsson says he wanted LÄCKÖ series to be traditional, classic and romantic. “I found my inspiration in the garden, and the clean simple shapes remind me of the branches of an apple tree. You will probably recognise the traditional, organic wrought-iron shapes in the table legs, and the shape of a classic spindle-back chair in the little chair in the series.”
