STAFFING

Farewell and thank you to departing 2017 staff members Glenice Brant, Lauren Wong, Ashton Newton, Helen Anderson and Peter Buszard. We wish them all the very, very best for the future. Best wishes to Glenice upon her retirement from teaching after a long and illustrious career in New Zealand, Shanghai and Sherbourne- enjoy a very well-deserved retirement and some me-time!

Best wishes to Lauren who will commence at Newbury Primary School in 2018 – thank you for all your work at Sherbourne including OH and S, Chickens and Buildings and Grounds.

Best wishes and thank you to Ashton who has so capably run our ICT management and programming- we really appreciate your hard work and energy. All the best Helen and Peter!

CAROLS ON THURSDAY EVENING

What a lovely evening we had last Thursday at our annual Carols on the Oval. It was great to get together as a community and celebrate at this busy time. Everyone got into the Christmas spirit – the students looked wonder-ful and sang with great gusto! All class groups performed their Christmas and Japanese songs very entertainingly – so many lyrics to learn – great job!

A big thank you to Amanda Oakley who ran the Carols program this year, to all the teachers who put in lots of practice with their classes and to Amanda and Anna for the work they have done with the Senior and Junior Choirs- they were marvellous!!

Thanks to the Parents and Friends who ran the Christmas raffle and raised $500 for our school.

Thank you for your generous contributions to our Christmas hampers.

WORKS OVER THE HOLIDAYS

Over the holidays there will be some works carried out in the school, particularly in the pool area where there is extensive pool roof work going on in January. We will also have our annual arborist visit and tree clean-up work done during the break as well as a few other jobs in the yard.

CHICKEN AND GARDEN CARE OVER THE HOLIDAYS

Thank you so much to those families who have volunteered to help with the chickens and a bit of watering over the holiday break. You should have received instructions and an envelope already. If you have not received your information, please contact the office.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC CONCERT

Last Tuesday we enjoyed a performance by those students across the school who have been learning a music in-strument throughout the year. Great job to all performers- it is not easy to perform in front of an audience and you did a super job!

Guitar– Renee Geach, India Jardine, Gabe Mitchell, Zara Kurema, Kendra Grant and Flynn Zipsin.

Chanter – Jessica

Piano – Clare Parfitt

Drums – Ashan Negron and Jude Barro

Thank you also to Chris Lalic from PMI music, our guitar and drums teacher.

CROSSING SUPERVISORS -GOOD NEWS!

SCHOOL LUNCHES 2018

STUDENT FREE DRESS DAY LAST TUESDAY

Thank you to the Sherbourne community once again for your generosity in providing a donation on our Student Free day last week to support a family in our community following a house fire. We were happy to pass on a gift voucher to the value of $372.

On the evening of Monday December 11, I attended the Banyule Council meeting where the matter of Banyule council providing a full subsidy for a crossing supervisor on both the Fernside Avenue crossing and Sherbourne Rd crossing (with lights) was under review. Council recommended they continue to fully subsidise both these settings for the next 3 years even though they fall short of the required number. If the warrant or required num-ber of pedestrians and traffic are met then Vic Roads will pay for half, Banyule Council the other. For the next 3 years the counts will continue to be made and at the end of this period the situation will be reviewed once again.

This is very generous of Banyule Council whose focus was on safety of our children as well as encouragement of walking and riding to and from school and around our shire. This is a very good outcome for our school and we acknowledge the support of Banyule Council and our Ward councillor, Wayne Phillips in this decision.

Catering by Lisa will be operating from Sherbourne PS canteen in 2018 preparing lunches on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The business and will resume on Monday February 5. It will be super for our kids to have it based at Sherbourne.

This does not mean there will be over the counter sales – lunches will still need to be ordered online or in writing as per current practice.

Thank you to Lisa, Amanda and crew for your service in 2017.

Lunch Orders will be available in 2018 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday only commencing Monday February 5.

SCHOOL WILL RESUME IN 2018 at SHERBOURNE ON WEDNESDAY JANUARY 31.

This date varies between schools. Teachers start back on Monday January 29. We will have a student free day at Sherbourne on Monday and Tuesday before the students resume on the Wednesday.

The school office will be closed from Friday December 22 and will reopen on Monday January 22 2018.

Thank you all for a wonderful 2017.

Best wishes for a very happy Christmas and holiday break, looking forward to a

fabulous year ahead in 2018.
