2017 Judges’ Biographies Michael Canalizo - Michael has spent many years in the Dog Show World as a Breeder/Owner and Professional Handler turned Judge. His first exposure to the Afghan Hound came in 1961 with his family’s purchase of “Babu Bamn of Grandeur” from Sunny Shay. He was the Breeder/Owner or Handler of the two Top Winning Hound(s) of All Time: Champions Triumph & Tryst of Grandeur. Tryst would be the Top Dog of All Breeds in 1995. Michael has won two Top Owner Handler Awards and six Quaker Oats Awards. Collectively he piloted over 100 Afghan Hounds to their Championships, had over 300 All-Breed Best in show, and nearly 1,000 Hound Group awards. He is currently approved to judge BIS, all Hound, Toy, Non-Sporting, and Herding breeds plus several breeds in the Sporting and Working groups. Michael is a member of the Afghan Hound Club of America, Westbury Kennel Association, and Morris & Essex Kennel Club. In 2005 Michael joined the American Kennel Club as an Executive Field Representative, and held the position as Director of AKC Event Management until very recently. Terry d. Chacon - Terry received her first Afghan Hound as a birthday gift, from Terry’s husband Eddie, in 1973. In spite of her antics and challenges, they learned to fall in love with the breed! Her first show dog came from the lovely Margie Pugh of "Bonanza" Afghan Hounds in 1978, and two years later, she purchased a bitch from her as well. These two dogs, namely Am. Can. And Mex. Ch. Bonanza Red Han Solo, and Am. Can. And Mex. Ch. Bonanza C & H Sugar Cookie, not only became her first two champions, but also her foundation. Thus began her lifelong love affair with the beautiful Afghan Hound, and proudly bred her dogs under the prefix “ShaCone." She has bred, owned and finished over 80 American Champions, many that are co-owned with Abbe Shaw of "Abaca" fame. As an accomplished artist whose works have been exhibited and now part of the permanent collection of the AKC Dog Museum in St. Louis, Mo., she has recently finished two larger than life-size bronze Afghan statues that will make their home in Norway. Terry also works in oil painting doing commissioned dog portraits, dog show scenes and plain air paintings and is proud to say she has artwork in over 20 countries. She has also done the artwork for the SBKC catalog for the last several years. Terry is a member of SBKC. She has been licensed to judge Afghan Hounds and Junior Showmanship by the AKC for 17 years, and apart from the numerous assignments in America, She has also had the pleasure of judging in Canada and South Africa, and will soon judge in England and Australia. Terry also judged the AHCA National Specialty which was the highlight of her judging career. Bruce Clark - Bruce started his "dog show addiction” when he was in High School, many moons ago. He had Whippets then and his first litter contained four champions, two Hound group winners and a BIS winner. He also showed a Whippet to three BIS when he was a senior in high school. Bruce got his Professional Handlers License in 1972 and began showing Afghan Hounds and several other Sighthound breeds. In the late 1970s he met his best friend and business partner, Stephen Fisher, and they began showing and breeding Afghans under the Shylo banner. Since then they have bred 125 Afghan Champions, several BIS winners and several Specialty winners. They added Greyhounds to their kennel in the late 1990s and from the first Greyhound litter had six Champions two BIS winners and a National Specialty winner. They have won the breed at Westminster three times with three different dogs. Since then, they have bred 35 champions and several other group and specialty winners. Bruce looks forward to seeing many beautiful Sighthounds at the the Sighthound Spectacular. He is a member of Santa Barbara Kennel Club. Connie Clark – Connie, of Cricklewood Wire Fox Terriers has been involved in the purebred dog fancy since 1976 as a breeder (of Wire and Smooth Fox Terriers, Irish Terriers, and Airedales), an exhibitor, a professional handler, an AKC Delegate, and a judge. Currently, she serves as President of the American Fox Terrier Club, and is a member of the Board of Governors. Previously, she served on the board – and is a past president - of the Wire Fox Terrier Club of the Central States, where she was inducted into their Hall of Fame. Approved to judge in 2007, she currently has the Terrier Group, and continues to pursue breeds in other groups. She had the pleasure of judging Wires at the World Show in Paris in 2011, and has judged regional and national specialties in the US, including Airedale Terriers, Fox Terriers and Kerry Blue Terriers. Connie was a member of the Judges Review Committee and the AKC Board Nominating Committee for the Class of 2019. She is an active member of the Del Monte KC, Morris & Essex KC, and Santa Barbara KC. Alesia G. Cooke – A Bull Terrier owner since 1988, a breeder and exhibitor since 1995. Alesia is an AKC Breeder of Merit and founding Board Member and Secretary of the Texas Gulf Coast Bull Terrier Club and

Texas Gulf Coast Bull Terrier Rescue. She is currently the Executive Secretary of the Bull Terrier Club of America. Larry Cornelius - Larry is currently an AKC Field Representative living in California. He recently retired as a professional handler. He and his partner, Marcelo Veras, showed all breeds. Larry grew up in Minnesota where his parents bred Dobermans. He started showing as a junior and apprenticed with Bryan and Nancy Martin and Peter Green before he became a professional handler in his own right. In 2004, he had the #1 Non-Sporting dog with French Bulldog, Ch. Bandog Jump For Joy. Then in 2007 he won Crufts with the Tibetan Terrier, Araki Fabulous Willie. He was voted Dogs in Review best professional handler in 2009. In 2011 he won Showdog of the Year for the Terrier Group with a Skye Terrier who became the top winning Skye in breed history. He is a member of the AKC Registered Handlers Program and also the Professional Handler's Association. Mario Renato Leme Duarte - Mr. Duarte, of Dynasty Kennels, has been breeding Scottish and Smooth Fox Terriers since 1990. Additionally, he has bred Chinese Cresteds, Chihuahuas, and Pomeranians. Since 2001, he has judged throughout Brazil, as well as in Panama, Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, Colombia, Peru, Sweden, Russia, Japan, South Africa, Canada, and the United States. In addition to his all-breed judging assignments, Mr. Duarte has had the privilege of judging the Scottish Terrier National Specialty in Canada. Mr. Duarte has also lectured on the Terrier Group and Scottish Terriers in Brazil and Canada. He has held positions on the board of various kennel clubs, and currently is on the Advisory Board of Paulistano Kennel Club. He resides in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Michael Gadsby - Under the Afterglow prefix, Michael has owned and/or bred champions in 21 different breeds resulting in over 100 US Champions and many more around the world. They have been top dog all breeds in the US on four occasions and only breeder to ever win BIS at Crufts twice and the first breeder to win two Crufts Groups in the same year. In the US they have had multiple BIS wins with two PBGVs, one Cocker and four Standard Poodles. Michael has judged at Crufts, the World Show and in every continent around the world. He is delighted to be coming back to Santa Barbara for the second time as it is one of his favorite shows anywhere in the world. Connie Gerstner Miller – Connie’s fifty years in the sport of dogs began with a German Shepherd she trained through the county 4-H program, the first year the program was offered in her rural area. This was just the beginning of a dog obsession that would last a lifetime. After more dogs, a horse or two, and a few years of training experience under her belt, Connie began Malagold Kennels in 1964, with a breeding program that encompassed both the sporting breed of the Golden Retriever and the spirited working breed of the Alaskan Malamute - hence the formation of the Malagold moniker! Eventually, concentration on the breeding of quality Golden Retrievers became the primary drive for Connie as she truly felt that she could do justice to only one breed. She has focused all her energies on producing a healthy, family oriented Golden Retriever, bred to the breed standard – a belief that she has followed consistently through her tenure at Malagold, which is home to multiple Best in Show and Specialty Show winners. It is obvious that Connie made the right choice, as the “Malagold” kennel name is attached to more than 130 AKC champion and performance titled Golden Retrievers. In the early 1970's, Connie was approved as a licensed All-Breed Professional Handler. This, in conjunction with her successful grooming, boarding and training business, allowed her to broaden her participation within the dog show world, bringing her daughter, Geri Gerstner Hart, into the family business at age ten. This showcased her daughter’s talents as one of the nation’s top Junior Handlers, leading Geri into a career as a successful professional dog show handler in her own right. Connie and Geri have worked together to build Malagold into a highly respected line of Golden Retrievers, with a successful foray into Best in Show winning Schipperkes and English Cocker Spaniels not to be discounted! Highlights in Connie’s long career include winning the Sporting Group at the 1984 AKC Centennial Dog Show with BIS, BISS CH. Libra Malagold Coriander SDHF, OS, as well as being the breeder/owner/handler of multiple generations of Best in Show winning Golden Retrievers, having Best of Breed wins at the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club. Connie has had the thrill of being awarded Best of Breed three separate times at the Golden Retriever Club of America National Specialties, along with numerous Award of Merit honors. Connie is also a member of the Santa Barbara Kennel Club. Stephanie Hedgepath – Stephanie’s involvement with the world of showing dogs began in 1968 with the purchase of her first show dog, a German Shepherd Dog. In the mid-seventies she began breeding and showing Pembroke Welsh Corgis and have finished a championship on a Pembroke Welsh Corgi on the average of one a year for the last 45+ years - almost all were breeder/owner handled to their titles out of the BBE class. Stephanie has also finished championships on dogs in several other breeds. Over the years she has owned and shown mostly dogs from the Herding and Sporting Groups. She started out showing dogs from the Herding Group, but as a hunter, she always had a “bird dog” and thus also showed Brittanys, Pointers, Golden

Retrievers and a Setter or two. She has bred Brittanys, Pointers and German Shepherds as well as Shetland Sheepdogs and Cardigan Welsh Corgis, but is best known as a Pembroke Welsh Corgi breeder. Stephanie started her judging career in 1988 when she was approved by the AKC to judge her first three breeds: German Shepherds, Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh Corgis. Stephanie has been fortunate enough to have been asked to judge dogs all over the US and Canada and also in Finland, Norway, Sweden, Jamaica, New Zealand, Australia, England, Northern Ireland, the Philippines and China. She has also been accorded the supreme honor of being asked to judge the national specialty for her breed, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, in its country of origin, the United Kingdom, in May 2011. Michael G. Hill - Mr. Hill began his judging career in Canada in 1981, and attained All-Breed status in 1994. He has judged All-Breed, Group, and Breed Club Championship shows in Canada, the United States, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Denmark, Colombia, Lithuania, Venezuela, and the United Kingdom. Mr. Hill has enjoyed the honor of being invited to judge at a number of special events including the first Purina National Show in Canada, the inaugural show for the Working Dog Club of New South Wales (Australia), and The Pekingese Club of America’s National Specialty (twice). In England, he has awarded CC’s in Pekingese at both All-Breed and Breed Club Championship shows. Mr. Hill’s involvement in dogs stems back to his teenage years, when his parents bred and exhibited Shetland Sheepdogs. Since his start in Shelties, he has gone on to breed and own American, Canadian, and UK Champion Papillons, owned Champion Miniature Schnauzers, and a Champion Shih Tzu. But Mr. Hill has spent a lifetime focusing on Pekingese, having shown his first Pekingese more than 50 years ago. Of the numerous Pekingese Champions he has bred, many have been Group winners throughout North America, and nine have been All-Breed Best In Show winners. In Canada, his achievements in Pekingese have included the Top Pekingese and Top Toy Dog. Moreover, he bred two British Champion Pekingese bitches, one of which went on to become the top winning bitch of the year in both the US and the UK. Mr. Hill’s contributions to the Pekingese breed include having owned the top Pekingese sire of all time. Tom Isherwood - Tom first started showing dogs as a child and since then has gone on to breed or own multiple UK Champions in 7 different breeds across the Non-Sporting, Toy and Sporting Groups. This includes the Top Dog all breeds with a Chinese Crested in 2010 and the number 2 all breeds with a Toy Poodle in 2012 in the US, plus numerous other BIS, group and Crufts BOB winners. He has judged in the US, Japan and in a number of countries across Europe and Scandavia. He is very much looking forward to his first time in Santa Barbara. Frank Kane – Frank showed his first dog, a cocker spaniel as a schoolboy, and he has been involved in the dog world ever since. Whilst at University he co-owned and handled two Sealyham Terriers to their titles. In 1970 he obtained two American cocker spaniel bitches as a foundation for his HIRONTOWER kennel. One of these bitches became a champion and both produced champions. 13 UK Champions were produced with others overseas. The Cockers have also remained a permanent favorite and CCs were won with these also. Frank has also been heavily involved in Dachshunds, Afghans and Great Danes and has handled champions in all of those breeds. First awarding challenge certificates in the UK IN 1974, Frank is now approved to award CCs in 110 breeds and judges all groups and Best in Show in the UK and has judged all groups and Best in Show under FCI rules. He judged Best in Show at Crufts in 2012. Frank is a member of the Kennel Club Board of Directors and Chairman of the Breed Standards Committee. He is also chairman of one of the Dog Health groups. Frank is author of several books on dogs and his book “Judging the Gundog Breeds” is much acclaimed worldwide. Outside his canine interests Frank is a keen horseman and has judged at some prestigious shows in the UK. Patricia Keenan - Patty is a third generation dog fancier, quite literally born into the sport. Her family's Wishing Well Kennels was well known for a variety of Terrier breeds and Beagles. She was a successful junior handler and also exhibited many of the family's home breeds to their titles and beyond. While still in school she assisted many handlers on weekends and during the summer. Patty then went on to apprentice under some of the country’s top handlers and had a brief career as a professional handler as well. Never wanting to be away from the dogs, she found her calling combining her business management background with animals in the Veterinary field. She is currently the business manager of Lake Alfred Animal Hospital in Lake Alfred, Florida .Judging was a natural progression for her, following in her mother’s footsteps. Patty is approved to judge all Terrier breeds, Beagles, Cocker Spaniels, English Cockers, Toy Manchesters, Junior Showmanship and BIS. She has had the thrill of judging several National Specialties as well as some of the country’s most prestigious events. Glen Lajeski - Glen's first show dog was a Great Dane purchased in 1969 from the iconic Kolyer Kennels. He used to accompany Kitty Kolyer to dog shows and work with her in her kennel which instilled in him the love of dog shows. Once leaving Kolyer Kennels he became a PHA handler focusing mainly of Working dogs, but

also handled Toys and Non-Sporting. In the mid -70s Glen got his first Standard Poodle from Bud Dickey of the famous Dassin Poodles. He is proud of the fact that he is still involved with Dassin as a partner with Joseph Vergnetti. Handling led to judging, which he has done for the past ten years, judging breeds in the Working, Toy and Non-Sporting groups. Glen is still actively showing dogs and has owned the top Non-Sporting dog in 2010 and one of the top Dobermans in the country in the years 2013 through 2016. Glen is a member of Santa Barbara Kennel Club. Humberto Lara - Humberto Lara – Humberto began in Bull Terriers in 1985 and produced his first litter in 1986. He has finished dogs in both Mexico and America. Humberto looks forward to judging many beautiful Bull Terriers at Santa Barbara this year. Sakura Moses - In the summer of 1986, a chance encounter with a Samoyed sitting in the driver's seat led to going to Sakuras first all-breed dog show that weekend. What a world of wonders with breeds she had never heard of, vendors offering everything under the sun (so it seemed), and of course, her beloved Sams. What started as her family companion became Canadian Ch. Tsiulikagta's Illamar, and she was hooked. Sakura joined the regional breed club, and then the national club. She became active in both, and went to her first national in 1991. She studied, was mentored, and for many years went to more dog shows to just watch and learn - other breeds as well as her own - to learn about structure and movement. She also sought to learn the history and purpose of the breeds she observed, to be able to equate and understand how form and function mattered. Along the way, Moonstar Samoyeds was established, and she has been fortunate in the mentors (who became good friends) she has had. Their collective mission/vision: Striving to consistently produce a SPIRIT and temperament that lives easily with its human and canine family and is adaptive to doing what is asked … soundness of BODY … movement that takes your breath away … and beauty that stems from the whole/total dog being in BALANCE and in proportion. Sakura has had BIS winners as well as multiple BISS winners, as well as working titled dogs. Fast forward to 2009 when all the years of observing, studying and encouragement from her mentors shaped itself into the decision to become a judge. Approved to judge Samoyeds in 2011, Sakura has learned how all those years outside the ring have helped her inside the ring, assuring she has the "eye" to judge well. Shawn Nichols - Shawn first became involved in purebred dogs in 1982. During the summer of 1985 he went to work for professional handlers Mark and Sally George in Northern California. He continued to work for professional handlers, Tim Brazier and the late Mark Shanoff, all of whom offered him the privilege of working with some truly amazing dogs. He bred both Toy & Miniature Poodles under the Typecast prefix. Eventually he relocated to Calgary where, in partnership with Raymond Yurick, they handled many breeds including Am. Can.Ch. Clarion Camelot Communique, Canada’s top Non-Sporting dog and #10 All breeds in 2008. In 2007 he purchased the iconic Terrier Type magazine and was the Editor/Owner from 2007-2010. He currently resides in Vancouver, BC where he works for Kao Canada in Sales and Marketing. His career aspirations have him pursuing his Marketing Sales Management Diploma at BCIT. He started judging in 2012, since then he has completed the Toy, Non Sporting, and ½ of Hound Group. This past spring he has recently moved on to permit status for the balance of the Hound Group. Judging to him has been a natural evolution to add to his experiences in the dog world. It also allows him to remain current with issues of importance to breeders and exhibitors and offers him a means to be involved with CKC. Valerie Nunes-Atkinson –. Valerie has been involved in the sport of pure bred dogs most of her life. Valerie won Best Junior Handler in Show at the 1981 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show under Judge Mr. Ellsworth Howell. In 2016 she won Best in Show at Westminster as Breeder, Owner and Handler of CJ the German Shorthaired Pointer. Valerie is also a top breeder of German Shorthaired Pointers. In her professional life Valerie is a professional handler and owner of Briarcliff Pet Resort in Southern California. Sally Sasser - Sally has had Labrador Retrievers for 41 years now. She has put AKC and Canadian Championships on many of her labs as well as TD, CD, CGC, JH, and DN titles on some. Sally has also owned and shown Cocker Spaniels, PBGVs and currently has a Sussex Spaniel that just finished her championship by going Winners Bitch at the 2017 National Specialty. Ray Sharp - While attending his first dog show about 35 years ago, Ray met his first Bull Terrier and immediately fell in love with the breed. Soon he and his wife Claudia and purchased their first bitch and began showing. Shortly, it became obvious that they would need a better quality bitch if they were seriously going to show and breed. Subsequently, they purchased their foundation bitch, a Monkery’s Buckskin daughter, from Louis and Ann Wellons (St. Kays). She finished her championship quickly and they began to breed on a limited basis. Since then they have bred more than 30 AKC champions, as well as ROM champions under the Woodwind prefix. They currently own two Bull Terriers, including Am. Ch. Emred Rumrunner, littermate to Eng. Ch. Emred the Huntsman, a recent English trophy show winner. Claudia and Ray are both

founding members of the regional club, the Bull Terrier Club of St. Louis, which is one of the most successful specialty clubs in the USA. An active member of the Bull Terrier Club of America since 1980, Ray has served 9 years as a club officer and on many committees Ray obtained his AKC judging license to judge Bull Terriers and Miniature Bull Terriers in 2007. Since then he has judged more than 30 shows for Bull Terriers and Miniature Bull Terriers in the USA. He has also judged in Australia (2010 and 2016), New Zealand (2010), the Netherlands (2011) as well as several Canadian shows. He was also honored to judge the Silverwood competition in 2010. Geno Sisneros – Geno currently practices optometry in Atlanta, GA. He comes from Pomeranians where, after 16 years in the breed, he has bred or finished over 30 AKC champions, as well as others around the world, with specialty and all-breed Best in Show winners, bred-by exhibitor and owner-handled Best in Show winners, and multiple group winners. Geno has also owned and shown Pekingese, Japanese Chin, and Kuvasz. He has served the American Pomeranian Club as a Board member, Vice President, and AKC Delegate for over 8 years. He is currently Vice President of the Kuvasz Club of America and is a proud member of the Pekingese Club of America, the Swedish Pomeranian Club, Montgomery Kennel Club, and Morris and Essex Kennel Club. Polly D. Smith – A native of Ellicott City, Maryland, Polly lives in St. Stephens Church, Virginia, with her husband Bob. Polly showed her neighbor’s Chow Chow as a child in Howard County. Later while attending college at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA she both rode and fox hunted. After marriage Mrs. Smith returned to showing dogs in 1962 showing German Shepherd Dogs in both conformation and obedience. The GSD did much better in Obedience. Later Polly acquired an American Foxhound for her husband. From this hound they developed their line of American Foxhounds. Together, they produced three generations of group and Best In Show winning Foxhounds. The couple have given seminars and have written extensively on the breed. She began judging in 1978 and reached all breed status in 2007. Her top assignments include judging the Hound Group at Westminster and the Working Group, Best in Show and Best Bred By In Show at the AKC Eukanuba National Championship. Also Best In Show at the National Show in Philadelphia. Polly has enjoyed judging shows of all sizes both in the states and abroad. When not judging Polly enjoys being a Master Gardener in King & Queen County and working with Heritage roses and other heirloom plants and animals. Dr. Robert Smith - A native of Charlottesville, Virginia, Bob now resides with his wife Polly in St. Stephens Church, Virginia. The Smiths started in dogs in 1960 showing German Shepherd Dogs, after which they began breeding and showing American Foxhounds. Together, they bred and showed multiple generations of group and Best In Show winning Foxhounds. The couple have given seminars and have written extensively on the breed. As an owner-handler, Dr. Smith had the top winning American Foxhound over a seven year span and was a three time top owner-handler nominee. After retiring from the show ring, Bob was elected three times to the AKC Board of Directors. He began judging in 1969 and reached all breed status in 1996. His top assignments include judging the Herding Group at Westminster and Best in Show at what was then the AKC Eukanuba National Championship. But he says he enjoyed judging shows of all sizes in every state of the union as well as on five continents. Dr. Smith earned a BA degree from the University of Virginia and doctorate from Vanderbilt University. He taught at the college level for 12 years and then switched to the field of economic development from which he retired in 1996 in order to run for the AKC Board. Marion D. Ward – Mardee was fortunate to have had great beginnings by having Bob & Dolly Ward for parents and mentors. Approved to judge Samoyeds in 1977, this is the 40th year of judging her beloved breed for the AKC. She has been approved for the Working group for about 20 years now, and also does several other breeds in the hound, herding, and non-sporting groups. Mardee feels fortunate to have judged her own National three times now, and 'Sammy-ed' specialties in many foreign countries Denmark, England, Spain, Finland, and most recently, Australia and New Zealand. She grew up in California and attended many 'benched' Santa Barbara shows and is thrilled to be on our panel this year. She moved to Montana 30 years ago for a better life for her dogs and horses. Mardee wants to wish all the participants a fun and positive weekend at the Earl Warren Showgrounds.

Sunday – NOHS is offered The AKC National Owner-Handled Series is a non-titling competition for dogs that are exhibited by their owners that are not professional handlers. All dogs that are owner-handled and are not owned or exhibited by professional handlers* meet the requirements for this competition. Exhibitors must declare their dog is Owner-Handled eligible at the time of entry using the check box on the entry form. Eligible dogs will be identified by an asterisk in the judge’s book, steward’s book & the catalog. Dogs must be handled throughout the breed level competition for the regular show by an eligible owner. Professional handlers, household members and current assistants** to professional handlers may not exhibit the dog in any competition during the entire show. Owner-Handled Best of Breed will be selected from the dogs that are eligible to compete in the Best of Breed competition including Winners Dog, Winners Bitch and winners of the non-regular classes.

o If the Best of Breed/Variety winner is Owner-Handled competition eligible, it will automatically be Owner-Handled Best of Breed/Variety and be eligible to compete in both the regular as well as the Owner-Handled group.

o If the Best of Breed/Variety winner is not eligible for Owner-Handled competition and the Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed/Variety is eligible, the Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed/Variety will compete against the eligible exhibits of the other sex to determine Owner-Handled Best of Breed/Variety.

o If neither the Best of Breed nor the Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed/Variety are Owner-Handled competition eligible and Select Dog & Select Bitch are both eligible, the judge is to choose Best Owner-Handled exhibit from the Selects and eligible Winners Dog or Winners Bitch.

o If one of the Selects is eligible, excuse all Champions and non-regular class winners of the same sex and then choose Best Owner-Handled exhibit from the remaining dogs of the opposite sex including the eligible Winners.

o If Best of Breed, Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed, Select Dog & Select Bitch are not eligible, the judge may choose any eligible dog remaining in the ring including Winners Dog or Winners Bitch as Owner-Handled Best of Breed/Variety.

o If the Best of Winners is eligible, the other Winner is ineligible since it was defeated. o No class dogs other than the Winners Dog & Winners Bitch are eligible to return to the ring.

Santa Barbara Kennel Club Graciously Offers These Challenge Trophies In memory of Tom and Ann Stevenson a challenge trophy is offered by Mr. and Mrs. Martin

Sosnoff (“Atalanta”), Mrs. Linda C. Campbell (“Dawin”) and Senhora Zuleika Borges Torrealba (“Da Maya”). The bowl of sterling silver was originally offered in 1940 by Mrs. Geraldine R. Dodge at the Morris and Essex Kennel Club for Best Pointer in Show. Santa Barbara Kennel Club feels that it is particularly apt for this trophy to be offered in honor of Tom and Ann as they were committed to offering the best of foreign judges to the American

fancy on the West Coast, just as Mrs. Dodge did on the East Coast.

The Champion Kippax Fearnought Challenge Trophy, a Sterling Silver Plate, is offered by friends of Santa Barbara Kennel Club for Best Foreign Bred Dog in Show. The Bulldog, Ch. Kippax Fearnought was the first foreign bred dog to win Best in Show at both Santa Barbara

Kennel Club (1957) and Westminster Kennel Club (1955).

Chris and Erna Aucamp offer a Challenge Trophy for Best Foreign Bred Dog in Show. A carving of a hippopotamus and two lions on a wooden base. (First offered in 2012).

This club and/or its superintendent assume no responsibility for wrong or incomplete information given on the entry blank by the owner or agent of the owner. This club and its superintendents assume no responsibility for the owner or owner's agents entering a dog in a class in which the dog is not eligible to compete, or for entering the same dog twice. 2. Returned Checks do not constitute a valid entry fee. The Superintendent will add a collection fee to the amount of each returned check and declined credit card. Subsequent returned checks for the same exhibitors may result in their being put on a CASH ONLY basis. The returned check or declined credit card MUST BE MADE GOOD by cash or money order BEFORE the dog will be allowed in the ring. 3. Judging programs will be mailed to the address given on the entry blank. If not received within a reasonable time prior to the show, notify the superintendent. Envelopes returned by the Post Office marked 'undeliverable' will be held at the Superintendent's Office. 4. During the hours of judging owners are to be on call, and have their dogs ready to bring into the judging ring promptly, in order that the judging will not be delayed. Dogs need only be present for their judging. Dogs not needed for further judging may be excused. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to have his dog ready to be shown and at the entrance of the judging ring when the steward calls for the class. Owners of dogs or the handlers of the dogs alone are responsible for the presence of their dogs in the judging rings. This means it is not the responsibility of the ring steward, nor of any agent of the show-giving club to locate any dog, its owner or handler, when the dog's presence is needed in a judging ring. It should be understood by every exhibitor and handler that waiting for dogs to be brought into the ring is a courtesy extended to the owner or handler of the dog. There is no rule of this club nor of The American Kennel Club that requires a judge to wait for an owner or handler to bring his dog into the ring. Show hours 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. 5. Trophies and prizes will be awarded in the judging ring before the completion of the judging of the breed and the superintendent's office advised at once, in the event of any discrepancy. All trophies must be claimed the day of the show. None will be mailed. 6. Exhibitors are admonished to make themselves familiar with the agreement of the American Kennel Club, referred to on the reverse side of the entry blanks that accompany this premium list. Rule books are available at www.akc.org. 7. The club, its superintendents or their employees will not be responsible for the loss of or damage to any dog exhibited, whether the result of accident or other causes and in addition assumes no responsibility for any loss, damage or injury sustained by an exhibitor or handler. It is distinctly understood that every dog at this show is in the care and custody and control of his owner or handler during the entire time the dog is on the show premises. 8. No grooming tables, pens or exhibitors setups will be allowed in the aisles and all grooming must be done away from the judging ring in areas specified by the club. 9. Entry fees shall not be refunded in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, sick, lame, excused by veterinarian or judge, barred from competition by action of the Bench Show Committee, or because the dog is ineligible to compete due to being entered incorrectly. There is no refund of entry fee for duplicate entry. There will be a $4.00 fee charged for cancellation of entry prior to closing of entries. 10. There is no provision offered for un-entered dogs at this show. 11. Declination of Entries. The Santa Barbara Kennel Club, Simi Valley Kennel Club and/or Los Encinos Kennel Club may decline any entries for cause and may refuse to receive or may remove any dog on account of disease, viciousness or other causes, and no one shall have any claim or recourse against the Kennel Club or any official thereof. 12. If, because of riots, civil disturbances or other acts beyond the control of the management, it is impossible to open or complete the show, no refund of entry will be made. 13. Do not leave any dogs in closed vehicles. 14. Dogs which according to their owners' records have completed the requirements for a championship after the closing of entries for the show but whose championships are unconfirmed, may be transferred from one of the regular classes to the Best of Breed or Variety Competition, provided this transfer is made by the Superintendent at least one half hour prior to the start of the earliest Conformation judging at the Show. 15.
