ANA Instructor CategorisationLevel Description

Satha 1 –Apprentice

• Initial employment training completed. • Assigned to Tashkil position. • Pending T2i. • Assists with training delivery.

Satha 2 – Instructor

•Officer or NCO who has completed T2i or ‘Grandfathered’ rights based on experience and performance validation.

•Supervised by MSI and CF personnel. •Delivers instruction under supervision of ANA Master Instructor.

Satha 3 – Specialist Instructor

•Officer or NCO who has completed T2i and Branch School specific courses and training or ‘Grandfathered’ rights based on experience and performance validation.

•Supervised by MSI and CF personnel. •Delivers instruction under supervision of ANA Master Instructor.

Satha 4 – Master Instructor

•Officer or NCO with experience as a seasoned instructor. •Has completed a MSIC. •Monitored by CF Personnel.•Instructs, plans, supervises, assesses instructors and instruction.•Enforces POI standardisation.

Satha 5 – Academy Instructor

•Officer assigned to Academy or Staff College (NMAA, ANSU)•Higher Education qualified•Academic Instructor.•Delivers academic and higher level military instruction

ANA Instructor Incentives• Non-monetary initiatives in place;

– Increase expertise: T2i and MSIC professionalize the instructor corps

– Increase status: Instructor patch for uniform and black cap

• Looking ahead - continue incentivizing;– Special pay to counter the loss of combat pay– Increased personnel tracking capabilities merit-based

promotions– Increase quality of life: assignment stabilisation (2 years)– Opportunities for resident literacy and language training

• Status;– MOD Pushed back on Instructor pay when we last raised the issue– With mature, agreed Satha levels the argument is much stronger

Future Initiatives

• Integrate Basic Methods of Instruction into all Officer and NCO courses at ‘Steady State’ (85% and 90% Dec 2012).

• Introduce Specialist Instructor Courses in Branch School.

• Work towards instituting qualified instructor rotation plan back to the fielded force to be implemented in 2013-2014

• Mentoring/Partnering Senior Leadership.– ANATC leadership transition to embrace the Afghan

Instructor initiative – RMTC ANA Cdrs and SMAs to conduct joint training

through an Advisors Course that will include:– Planning– Assessment of Instruction– Assessing of Instructors
