CAMP HISTORY

Seven Ranges was established in 1987, when the camp Tuscazoar program was combined with camp Buckeye. Camp Tuscazoar was founded and began serving scouts in 1924 with a gift of 65 acres of land from Frank G. Hoover. (the dining hall is named in honor of him) The camp was located along the Tuscarawas River near Zoarville. A combination of these two is how the camp was named. The camp grew into the mid 1930’s until a WPA program was established to build a new dam and watershed area for Dover. The program survived as additional land was secured just south of the original camp and thrived until closing in 1986. Almost immediately camp alumni formed the Camp Tuscazoar Foundation to preserve camping in the area. To date, about 350 acres have been acquired and the grounds contain a museum of scouting and camping memorabilia.
