DESTINATION SOCHI MEMBERSHIP RECRUITMENTAND CLUB PROGRAM SUMMARY

OVERVIEW U.S. Figure Skating is launching the Destina-tion Sochi Membership Recruitment and Club Programs campaign to increase awareness of U.S. Figure Skating, celebrate all of its athletes and promote its programs. The Membership Recruit-ment and Club Programs campaign will recruit new families to get involved in ice skating and fur-ther foster U.S. Figure Skating’s relationship with current members by offering exciting events to promote U.S. Figure Skating through association with the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

Below are summaries for some of the mem-bership program offerings that were developed to aid figure skating clubs with membership recruit-ment, growth and special event programming at the local level. Pick one program to initiate, or pick them all! Start planning now for the exciting upcoming season.

EXTENDED NATIONALSKATING MONTH (NSM) -

JANUARY & FEBRUARY Clubs and programs are invited to host open hous-es! Sign-up now through November 15, 2013.

Open houses can include free lessons, exhibitions, parent meetings, media involvement, equipment re-sales, demonstrations, celebrity appearances, DJs, on-ice games, bring a friend promotions and raffles.

We have 500 available NSM kits for the upcoming year. Sign up now – we SOLD OUT the last two years.

SKATEFESTS ACROSSTHE COUNTRY

SkateFests will be held in conjunction with Disson Shows and the 2014 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

SkateFest dates:

• November 7 - Pandora Unforgettable Holiday Moments on Ice - Jacksonville, Fla.

• December 10 - P&G & Walmart Tribute to American Legends of the Ice - TBD

• December 13 - Progressive Skating & Gymnas-tics Spectacular - Jamestown, N.Y.

• January 11 and 12 – 2014 Prudential U.S. Fig-ure Skating Championships - Boston

VIDEO CONTEST Host a video contest for members and clubs with the theme “Go Team USA!” Clubs and members can create and submit a 30-second video and are encour-aged to be creative! Winners receive a prize pack and their video will be shown at the 2014 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships as well as distributed to NSM events.

There will be three categories for the videos:

• Single• Small group• Team

The video submission deadline is December 1, 2013.

DESTINATION SOCHI CLUBTEAM COMPETITION:

The Team Competition event is designed to be a fun, interactive and social team maneuver event offered leading up to, during and after the 2014 Olympic Winter Games. The Team Competition is designed to be similar in structure and functionality to team maneuver events held during nonqualifying competitions.

U.S. Figure Skating created a Team Competition Handbook containing all of the resources, informa-tion, documents, templates, download links and de-tails to help clubs/programs plan, organize and exe-cute a successful Team Competition event.

The resources included within the Handbook can be downloaded from the Destination Sochi Special Events webpage and include the following:

• Staffing/volunteer requirements, roles and re-sponsibilities

• Skater’s registration form for clubs/programs to use

• Event format templates • Event day specifics, details and schedule• Sample judging forms and summary• T-shirt order information and pricing • Timeline to plan and execute event• Appendix with sample forms and documents • Waivers and sample forms to order additional
