The initiatives presented in this overview are independently undertaken and funded by the Vinod & Saryu Doshi Foundation; they are unrelated to the CSR activities of Premier Ltd.

Premier Ltd. does not contribute any funds to the Foundation.

The Vinod & Saryu Doshi Foundation is a non-profit charity trust that supports initiatives in the fields of Art & Culture, Education and Community. It seeks to embody the lifelong passions and values of my parents, who believed that the mind is enriched through education and the spirit through art and culture. They have spent a considerable part of their lives supporting these causes. The Foundation provides scholarships to financially challenged young Indians, enabling them to catapult themselves to a higher economic and social orbit. It fosters emerging talent in the visual and performing arts through fellowships, performances, exhibitions and festivals. It is committed to improving the community by funding initiatives in environment protection and social upliftment. This report highlights some of the cumulative work done by the Foundation. VINOD DOSHI SHIKSHAN YOJNA Scholarships given to employees of Premier Ltd. and

their children every year for higher education. This initiative has helped 80 beneficiaries over the

past 8 years. More than R4.9 million donated since its inception.

VED VIGNAN MAHA VIDYA PEETH (VVMVP) The Foundation has been associated with VVMVP’s ‘Gift

a smile’ project since 2009 — an initiative to educate underprivileged children in rural India.

VVMVP is the Art of Living Foundation’s Educational Charitable Trust.

Educated 400 primary schoolchildren from rural Maharashtra.

VOLUNTARY ORGANISATION IN COMMUNITY ENTERPRISE (VOICE) Partnered with VOICE to empower more than 500

street children, especially girls, through education and skill training.

AMERICAN ALUMNI ASSOCIATION (AAA) The Foundation’s partnership with the

THE VINOD DOSHI THEATRE FESTIVAL Over the past 7 years, this annual festival has promoted experimental theatre in Pune and Mumbai. More than 25,000 theatre enthusiasts enjoy multi-lingual performances in Marathi, Hindi, English and Gujarati every year. Memorable performances include Naseeruddin Shah’s Ismat Apke Naam and Mohit

Takalkar’s Gajab Kahani (commissioned for the festival) that was consequently invited to perform at the prestigious Bharat Rang Mahotsav in Delhi.

THE VINOD DOSHI FELLOWSHIP IN PERFORMING ARTS 5 annual fellowships since 2009 for emerging artists in Hindi and Marathi theatre; total 35 fellows today. Each recipient is awarded R0.1 million to pursue his or her theatrical passion with no strings attached. Several fellows have gone on to become established playwrights and directors. Some of them are:

1. Irawati Karnik (2009–10 Fellow) — wrote and co-developed S*x, M*rality & Cens*rship with ShantaGokhale, later directed by Sunil Shanbag

2. Gitanjali Kulkarni (2011–12 Fellow) — acted in the Hindi adaptation of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night,Piya Behrupiya, part of the Globe to Globe Festival in London

3. Nipun Dharmadhikari (2010–11 Fellow) — directed the experimental play Tichee Satra Prakar ne,based on Attempts on Her Life by Martin Crimp. It was shortlisted and selected for the Mahindra Excellence Awards in Theatre, winning the Best Direction award

LITERATURE LIVE! EVENINGS Title sponsor for the Literature Live! Evenings, offering citizens of Mumbai a chance to participate in

the many joys of literature through book launches and author interactions. 6 events annually. Over 1,200 attendees.

NATIONAL CENTRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS (NCPA) “CENTRESTAGE” Partnered with the NCPA to present “Centrestage” — a multilingual theatre festival of premiering plays, since 2013. The festival has created a platform for new works with debut performances from

upcoming theatre groups such as Yatri, Pundalik, Schitzengiggles and Cartel. 4,000 people, 28 premieres, 4 languages, across 20 days, over 2 years.

GIVING VOICES SOCIETY (GVS) Partnered with Giving Voices Society, a unique initiative to raise the standard of Western classical

singing in the form of art song and opera, in India. Supported two talented students to pursue their education in western classical music.

CHILDREN IN PROGRESS (CHIP) 5-year partnership with CHIP, Mumbai — an

NGO working with the city’s underprivileged municipal schoolchildren.

Funded theatre and art programmes, computer classes and judo workshops for more than 500 balwadi children in an after-school programme.

300 children benefitted from Diwali and summer camps supported by the Foundation that included dance, yoga, basketball, origami, women empowerment and painting workshops among others.

Other initiatives in partnership with the NGO — book donations, English reading programmes, industry exposure and career fairs.

CHARA CHHAVANI Donated food grains to 1,200 drought-affected villagers of

Satara district of Maharashtra. 22 villages were helped by this initiative.

MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION Partnered with Make-A-Wish Foundation to bring smiles to

children with life-threatening medical conditions.

EQUAL COMMUNITY FOUNDATION (ECF) Partnered with ECF to tackle the problem of discrimination

against Indian women by working with men to offer them an opportunity to study and practice gender equitable behaviour.

Adopted Pune’s Kashewadi community to develop leaders who take personal as well as collective action to end violence against women in their community.

Over 500 beneficiaries.

ENVIRONMENTAL FILM The Foundation partnered with the Conservation Act Trust

(CAT) to fund a documentary on the environment.

SEVA SADAN SOCIETY Funded an education and skill development programme for

girls from Mumbai’s underprivileged society in partnership with the Seva Sadan Society.

HAPPY HOME AND SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND 4 music scholarships for the institute’s

visually impaired children conducted by the Furtado School of Music Education.

(AAWC) — an NGO working with marginalised women and their children since 2007.

Funds provided for medical check-up camps for toddlers between ages 2 and 6 and education and vocational skills for older children.

JAIN COMMUNITY SERVICE 5-year partnership with the Ahimsa Prasarak

Trust, Mumbai — a public charity trust with the aim of spreading education through book donations, fellowships and scholarships.

Funded the publishing of Swanand Vidyamruit, a book on Jain history and architecture in Marathi and Sanskrit.

EDUCATION AUDIOLOGY & RESEARCH SOCIETY FOR HEARING IMPAIRED INFANTS AND CHILDREN Partnered with the Education Audiology

& Research for Hearing Impaired Infants and Children to provide more than 50 economically disadvantaged deaf children with hearing aids.

BLUE SHORES PRISON ART PROJECT A unique prison art pilot programme

conducted at the Central Aguada jail in Goa to give a pre-selected group of inmates a chance to execute their prison terms in a meaningful and creative way.

It established the idea that the prison is as much about reform as it is about punishment by documenting positive behavioural changes and exploring the implications of this experiment.
