English tasks:
Monday:
Describe the obstacles below that the family may encounter on their hunt for a bear:
Rain
Stones
Sand
Mountains
Gorse
‘The prickly, spiky gorse’
See Class Dojo video
Tuesday/ Wednesday:
You have been reading
‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.’ Can you think of a new obstacle for them to come across? Write that page for the story.
We’re going on a bear hunt. We’re going to catch a big one. We’re not scared. Uh, Uh! Sand. Soft, sticky sand. We can’t go over it. We can’t go under it. Oh, no we have to go through it. Squish, squash, squish squash.
Thursday/ Friday
Look at the description of the bear ('One shiny wet nose! Two big furry ears! Two big goggly eyes! IT'S A BEAR!'). Choose another animal and write a similar description.
‘One long trunk! Two enormous ears! One wriggly tail! It’s an elephant!’

Extra play activities to encourage writing
Secret Writing
Take a white crayon and write some letters or short words on a white piece of paper. Then paint over the top with watercolour paints and watch their amazement when they discover secret marks coming up out of nowhere.
What you need –
• White Crayons
• Watercolour Paint
• Paper
• Paintbrush
Follow the Word Path
Make a trail of cards with words that the children have just learnt or are learning.
(To mix this activity up, you can use dice or get them to jump from one step to another on one leg to work on the gross motor skills.)
What you need –
Colourful Cards
Pens
Dice
Encouraging writing through play is really important
Home areas- Menus, price lists, orders
Shops- Labelling, price lists, shopping lists
Doctors- Prescriptions, checklists, notes, names
Schools- register, lessons, labels
Office- Messages, lists, ordering
Getting the children to create menus for the evening meal, writing your shopping list or any kind of list, labelling etc, are fantastic but simple ways to get children to write.
Maths tasks – Repeating and symmetrical patterns
Monday: Practice counting forwards and backwards from 20.
Teaching: pretend to be a shop keeper! Show the children that something in your shop costs 6p. Explain that there isn’t a 6p coin. How could they pay? (The idea of change may come and this can be discussed e.g. you could give 10p and the shopkeeper would give back change of 4p however this shopkeeper has no change left) Give pots of 1p, 2p & 5p coins. Ask children different ways of making 6p. Collate the diff ways and show how they could write this down e.g. 1p + 1p + 1p + 1p + 1p + 1p = 6p and 5p + 1p = 6p. They might even have found 2p + 2p + 2p = 6p or used combinations of 2p and 1p coins. How many different ways can they find?
Tuesday: Practice counting forwards and backwards from 20.
Show a purse. Say you have 4p inside it. Ask your child what coins you might have in the purse. Give your
child some 1ps & 2ps to investigate with. Allow time to experiment and think. Can you suggest what coins I
have in my purse? Open purse! Repeat activity and investigate with different amounts and coins.
Wednesday and Thursday: Practice counting forwards and backwards from 20.
For the next two days, children will be learning through shop role play. There are 3 levels of difficulty which you can choose with your child. Have lots of fun playing shops
and working with the money in a practical way.
1. Support children in role play in a shop where everything costs 2p, 3p, 5p, 6p or 10p, 11p, e.g. a jumble sale for toys, a bead shop, sweet shop. Give your child two
coins (from 1p, 2p, 5p and 10p). Discuss which things they can afford. Help children to pay, e.g. using three pennies or a 2p coin and 2p coin to buy something for
3p, or 6 pennies or 5p and 1p to buy something for 6p.
2. Extend: Pay for items using one denomination of coin.
3. Challenge: Include items costing 7p and 20p. Include 20p coins.
Friday: Practice counting forwards and backwards from 20.

Variations on the shop idea: This can be based around whatever your child is interested in…. travelling on a bus, dinosaur museum/shop, café, bakery, cinema. Children can
pretend to be the different roles. For example, they could make their own tickets, have a bus stop where they can pay to get on the bus, go shopping and travel home.
Extra tasks – optional
Play the tray game…put
some objects on a tray.
Cover the tray and remove
an object. Can your child
spot what is missing? Or
cover the tray and see how
many objects they are able
to remember.
- Choose and play a game on Topmarks https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/5-7-years/counting or BBC Bitezize
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/subjects/zjxhfg8 It will be good to cover the same content that you learnt about with whiterose and any counting,
ordering, sequencing and place value.
- Activities we will set on class Dojo
- Games with maths at home, e.g. snakes and ladders, hop scotch, skittles, hoopla, pairs games, bingo
• If you are struggling with anything, please message on Class Dojo and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
Wider curriculum tasks

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/supermovers/ks2-collection/zr4ky9q
• How many skips can you do in 30 seconds?
• Create your own obstacle course – how long does it take you to complete it? Can you improve your time?
• Go for a walk
• Complete a yoga session at https://www.youtube.com/user/CosmicKidsYoga
• Complete a workout with Joe Wicks (on Youtube)
• Complete a dance routine with Oti Mabuse (on Youtube)

History/Geography
Share your PowerPoint of Dartmoor with the other children on classroom dojo.
Now produce a video clip of you talking about it, a labelled picture or a written report. This should be done without any information from the internet, your
family or friends. This is an application task.
Art / DT
On your daily exercise find some sticks and use them to create a lockdown memory piece of art
Stick Family- Think about the sizes and shapes of the sticks that you will need.
Create an illustration for a book. Watch Draw with Rob an author and illustrator and he will show you how to create your own characters.
Science- Habitats
Watch the Power point of Rainforest Habitats on School Story and discuss the climate and habitat. Complete the experiment ‘Make Rain’.
http://www.sciencefun.org/kidszone/experiments/make-it-rain/
Geography
In the story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ look at the different places that the family explore together. Can you think of similar locations near
to where you live? Write a list.
Computing
• Use the internet safely (with an adult).
• Create a poster to teach online safety. https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-t-2546175-eyfs-staying-safe-on-the-internet-powerpoint https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t-t-4962-internet-safety-powerpoint
• Practice typing skills on BBC Dancemat (search on any search engine). This will definitely improve your speed to help you complete
some of the tasks over the coming weeks.
Music
Use drawing to think about music
Drawing to sounds and music can be a lovely listening activity, you can invite your child to ‘dance with their hands’ whilst using their crayons,
pencils, felt tips, paint brushes, encouraging them to listen to the music and respond to the music through their visual art.
You can explore this with different types of music.
PSHE
Listen to the story the Colour Monster. https://youtu.be/Ih0iu80u04Y He is feeling confused. Can you think of a time when you have been
confused? What did you do in this situation? What can you do to help yourself in the future?
In this story the colour yellow refers to happiness, red is anger and blue is sadness. Think of other emotions and choose colours that may
represent them. (Disgust, envy, frustration, fear)
