Membership, of the HSV Owners Club of Qld. Inc., is restricted to owners of HDT improved vehicles of G.M. origin, which are I.D. plated, or are eligible for same, and owners of HSV improved Commodores, or Statesman models, which are I.D. plated. Associate membership is also available.

The Membership Fee is $75 per annum, which is due and payable on January 1st of each year. New members also incur a joining fee of $15.

PLEASE BE AWARE: CAR THEFT is currenly on the rise in Brisbane and surrounding areas. Please do not take for granted that your car is SAFE. Police believe there are thieves entering suburbs in groups, breaking into homes, locating car keys and stealing cars. In some cases, break ins are occurring while people are at home. DO NOT leave your keys on a bench or in a cupboard even when you are home. There are reports of thieves smashing roller doors or windows to gain entry to your home. Thieves will invade your home and your privacy with the sole purpose of locating the keys to your pride and joy and stealing it. There is nothing more soul destroying than having your home invaded, losing your HSV and the possibility that a family member may be threatened or badly hurt. Always ensure the front and back doors to your home locked, even when you are home. These individuals must be stopped! Keep an eye out for people parked in strange cars in your street as it is possible they are watching your home. Keep an eye out during ‘kerb side clean ups’ as rustling through rubbish left on footpaths may be how thieves are disguising criminal activity. Police believe there are currently up to 100 criminals operating around Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Approximately 40 cars are stolen each week.

Our first Drag Day was run on Saturday 6th April and was well supported by 29 vehicles and 30 drivers. This was an excellent turnout and it was wonderful to see some new faces.

It was also great to see a few ladies having a run and I have it on good report that the fairer sex won out in RED317.

Results will be posted in the next magazine.

Our next Drag Day will be held at Willowbank Raceway on Saturday 26th October 2013.

Observation Run Destination WynnumSunday 19th May 2013

We are organizing an Observation Run travelling through the Bayside suburbs. Our final destination will be Bayside Sea Scouts Den, Upper Esplanade, Manly. The Scout Den is situated in a lovely spot beside a huge park with great views of Moreton Bay.

An observation run is a great day the whole family can get involved in. The more eyes you have in your car the better, so bring the kids along! Even if you don’t have anyone to navigate, you are still more than welcome to attend and we would really appreciate some help to set up the Den.

Entrants will be given instructions on where to go. Between most instructions there will be a question to answer in relation to something you should see before the next instruction. Points are awarded for each correct answer. The course will take approximately 1.5 hours to complete. Time taken for the run, faster or slower than the set time, will incur penalty points. The main idea is to do something a little different and to have a good time. There will be small prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd as well as for last place (Mr Magoo).

When you arrive at the Den there will be cold soft drinks, tea and coffee and biscuits and chips to snack on. While you are waiting for the others to arrive you can go for a walk along the waterfront or take the kids to the playground. The lunch will not be a sit down lunch as such. While there will be tables and chairs, unfortunately there may not enough for everybody, so it would be appreciated if you could bring chairs and a folding table if you have them. For lunch we will be having Subway platters and as a treat afterward there will be cakes from The Cheese Cake Shop.

The cost for this event will be $25 per adult and $10 per child (payment on the day is fine, cash only please). If you are free on Sunday 19th May lock this event in, it will be a fun day out for all.

We will be meeting in the Logan Hyperdome Home Centre car park at Loganholme, beside Hungry Jacks on the M1 service road at 8:30am for a 9:00am start.

It would be great to see you all on the day. It’s been some time since our last Navigation / Observation Run and this will be the only one held this year. I do need final numbers one week in advance of the event so come on, book your place now or you might forget!

HSV Owners Club Dyno DaySaturday 1st June 2013

The HSV Owners Club of Qld in conjuction with Walkinshaw Performance, Brendale are hosting a Dyno Shoot Out Competition on Saturday 1st June 2013. If you would like to be a part of this fun day with your fellow Club members, we suggest you get in early as there are limited spaces (maximum of 22 cars).

The facility will be open at 8:00am with the first run to commence at 9:00am. All are welcome to attend as spectators or participants.

To end the day, we will be having a sausage sizzle where the trophies will be presented by Walkinshaw Performance, as well as the ‘Guess Your Own Car’s Rear Wheel Kilowatts’ prize.

Cost for the day is $40.00 per car (cash only) which covers Dyno run, BBQ lunch, trophies and prizes.

Club members who wish to spectate rather than participate (to see what happens at this type of event) are welcome. Participants, complete and present the Entry Form (available from the Club website www.hsvowners.com.au).

Sprint Program 2013The first sprint session was held at Queensland Raceway on 16th March. It was well supported by our members with 14 sprinters taking part. Thanks also to Motorama Springwood for their workshop support van and staff.

We ran the new regularity format with the scores from the day below. I also make mention that the quickest time on the day was done by Mark Gillman in Rob Droders car with a 1.06.2136 (Apologies to Rob if Mark was actually pulling my leg). Note: under the regularity format, the lower the score the better.

We have decided to enter the 2 day event participating in the Shannons ‘2 Days of Thunder’ at Queensland Raceway on 22nd and 23rd June. Confirmation will be made with QR and Shannons before the next magazine on the terms of this acceptance then we will need the support of our members to get the numbers. For this we need a minimum of 12 Participants.

This year we will be running in the Open Sprint series and all participants are eligible for both Club Championship and the QR Championship. For QR scoring please check their website.

A minor Club trophy will be done in the same manner as previous years. However, due to some great input from a number of our regular more experienced sprinters (thanks Steve and Craig) we will now score the major trophy for 2013 along the lines of a regularity format. With the collective group experience maturing and with the main aim to have fun whilst ensuring the safety of competitors and cars, taking the onus off going faster and faster each outing to score points, I think is a great thing.

Competitors will use the first session of the day to run normally and get a feel for the track and their times. Prior to the second session each competitor will nominate a time with the aim to get as close to that time as possible for each of the flying laps. Competitors will have a chance to modify this nominated time for the third session. This allows competitors to choose how fast they want to go with the pressure off to be the fastest. You need to be the most consistent to be in the hunt to win the major trophy.

There will be 3 x 6 lap sprint sessions plus passenger ride sessions at the discretion of track management time permitting.

The cost for either venue is $150 (normal QR rate is $175) per car payable to the Club by cash or cheque on the day. Other costs apart from running costs are QR AASA track licence of $55 per year or $20 per day. A timing device can be bought for $80.00 which will last for approx 7 years or can be hired for $20 a day with an $80 deposit required with $60 refund upon return. Helmet hire is available for $5.00

EFTPOS facilities at both tracks for licence, transmitter and helmet hire.

Entries will need to be via signed entry form which is posted on the Club website www.hsvowners.com.au

Completed entry forms need to be received 1 week in advance of meeting date and can be emailed to [email protected] or faxed to 07 3418 0320. If you fax them direct to QR please advise Peter Woods. Entry is on a first received basis so please get them in as quickly as possible as Lakeside fills up very fast with its max 15 limit. If you want late entry please phone Peter Woods on 0428 723 612 to check availability.

Entrants should arrive at the track at approx 11:15am for sign in with the drivers briefing normally at 12:00pm and first sprints starting at approximately 1:00pm.

Expected finish time is 4:15pm. Prospective entrants should check the Motorsport tab on our website to view handy tips for vehicle preparation for the sprints.

If you want to race this is not the event for you. If you want to stretch your cars legs and improve your driving skills we would love to have you along. You should also be aware that your car is unlikely to be covered by comprehensive insurance for any damage whilst on track.

For those of you who have petrol running through their veins, but don’t want to risk their pride and joy attending motorsport days, yet still want the exhilaration of speed, here is your solution!

Kingston Park Raceway is hosting the Club’s Kart evening to be held on Saturday Night 20th July 2013.

5:00pm: Arrival and Registration for all drivers5:30pm: Driver’s briefing - Our event name will be called out via loud speaker system all drivers must attend!6:00: Practice x 8 laps7:00pm: Heat 18:00pm: Heat 28:30pm: Grand Final9:00pm: Podium Presentation for 1st, 2nd and 3rd as well as a Mr Magoo award.

As there can only be a maximum of 25 drivers getting in quick is a must. Please let me know if you are interested ASAP. This night in previous years has been an absolutely fantastic event. Having it at night is not only cooler it seems to make everything feel faster!

Cost for the evening is $110 per person; minimum age is 16 years & fully enclosed foot wear must be worn.

Confirmation of drivers attending is required ASAP and payment for this event must be received by 6th July 2013 or you can send your money to the Club sooner.
