rand d OXAPROZIN: Once-daily regimen gives it an advantage Oxaprozin (Wy 21 ,7 43), a new alkanoic acid, in aonoe-daily dose of \ 200mg gave similar results to 4 doses of aspirin totalling 3900mg daily in 21 patients with definite or classical rheumatoid arthritis. A double-blind study using these dosages [or 12 weeks showed marked improvement in both groups, with no significant difference between them exceptlhat oxaprozin gave a more rapid initial imp rovement and fewer side effects. Three patients reported. a total of 6 si de eff ects in the oxaprozin group compar ed with a total of 39 si de effeo:s in 11 patients on aspirin. For this reason more patients preferred oxaprozin. Improvement continued during a subsequenl6- month open study.
