Introduction and Awards Panel

www.oxfordpreservation.org.uk

The Oxford Preservation Trust Awards, now in their 35th year, are our way of recognising the contribution of others to the conservation and improvement of Oxford’s built and natural environment.

This year, the quality of applications has been extremely high, with seven plaques and eight certificates awarded, across five categories of Buildings Conservation, New Buildings, Small Projects and Landscape and Environmental Enhancement. In addition, we are delighted to have awarded an Oxford Preservation Trust Community Award, now in its second year, designed to recognise the impact that people make within their local environments.

I would like to thank Kemp & Kemp for sponsoring the Oxford Preservation Trust Awards 2012 and Minns Estates for their support for the Community Awards.

Wolvercote Lakes will be our newest nature reserve (opening 2013), giving public access to the site, and increasing biodiversity.

Oxford Open Doors is organised in partnership with the University of Oxford and is the best Heritage Open Days event in the country. In 2012 it attracted over 62,000 visits to 200 places and events, inviting local people to discover what is on their doorstep.

We created and maintain the Oxford Railings Project, in partnership with Oxford City

Council, providing access to affordable casts of Oxford’s original railings patterns available for

use by property owners and their contractors.

Oxford Preservation Trust

Heritage lies at Oxford’s heart, a place of international renown, a successful commercial and economic centre, and a wonderful place to live and work. Oxford Preservation Trust was set up in 1927 and now cares for over 900 acres of land and 9 buildings, ranging from cottages to a castle.

Some of our recent achievements:

Oxford Castle is our largest project to date, a £6 million scheme as part of the

wider Oxford Castle regeneration.
