The Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour focuses on the neural basis of adaptive intelligence and requires custom-built scientific equipment to enable this research to be carried out.

We are seeking to appoint an Instrumentation Technician to support the ongoing work of the Staff Scientist/Instrumentation Engineer at the Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour. The technician will be required to work closely with the Staff Scientist and other members of the Centre in the design and implementation of custom-built scientific instrumentation.

You will seek to identify potential projects and develop instrument specifications whilst working closely with researchers to identify their needs. As a technician you will construct, maintain and document the instruments as well as test, maintain and modify existing systems. You will also have a pro-active approach to the projects you undertake and to solving any problems that may arise.

You will have an undergraduate degree in Physics, Engineering or Basic Science, or be able to show relevant experience in a technical role. Your skills should include a combination of programming, CAD, electronics and optics. You will be friendly, approachable and be able to collaborate with scientists from a number of disciplines. You should be able to work with minimum supervision (after sufficient training) and be able to manage your time efficiently whilst working on several projects concurrently.

The post is funded until 31st December 2015 and will be based at the Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour, Tinsley Building, Mansfield Road, Oxford.
