Faculty Grants for Digital Library Collections: Advancing eScholarship

Advancing eScholarship: Goals

• Transform unique research and teaching materials into digital collections that are searchable and accessible over the Web

• Support collaborative and creative use of resources with enduring value to the Cornell community and scholarship at large

• Build a library of resources to support a range of scholarly activities

Content Scope

• Resources regularly used in teaching or research– Lecture notes, slides, photographs, printed

documents, and manuscripts

• Collections already held by the Library– Instrumental in supporting learning, teaching, and

research at Cornell

• Materials held by other cultural institutions – Especially combining dispersed resources to create

new and enriched ones

Selection Criteria

• Increase the availability, and consequently the use of a collection of demonstrated scholarly significance

• Demonstrate strong interest within the academic community for access to the collection

• Contribute significantly to the existing digital collections such as the ones included in the Cornell University Library‘s digital library

• Support the University’s subject strengths• Involve interdisciplinary, collaborative, and inter-

institutional resources

• 29 proposals, representing 62 faculty members

• 12 selected for funding– 10 digitization– 2 planning grants

• Awards in the form of a suite of DCAPS digital content development and management services
