SUMMER FUN WITH THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB HAS NEVER BEEN EASIER!
Welcome to the 2018 Summer Boys & Girls Club Program! The staff have put together exciting new programs for the youth this summer. Visit us on Facebook at Boys & Girls Club of Brookings and follow us

Registration The deadline for all memberships, new or renewed, is Monday, May 11th. If members are not registered by this date, they will not be
able to attend the Club for the first week of our summer program. All members must complete the one page summer registration.
The Club will be closed on May 23rd & 24th for summer program preparation and staff training.
The 1st day of summer for NEW MEMBERS is May 25th. Includes new Club members or Club members transition-
ing to a new age group (ECE to 1st-3rd, 3rd to 4th & 5th). The 1st day of summer for ALL MEMBERS is May 29th.
Orientation
Parent/Youth Orientation is required prior to all new youth attending
the Club. Orientation takes place every Monday at 5:15pm. During
the month of May, orientation will take place on Mondays and
Wednesdays at 5:15pm.

Weekly Summer Themes Below are the themes that the Club will be celebrating each week. Youth are encouraged to join the Club staff in dressing up accord-ing to the theme each Friday! Pool Expectations
While on the bus, sit in the seat
and talk quietly to your seat mate.
While at the pool, place items in a
secure location. The Club will not
be held responsible for missing or
stolen items.
Youth are able to buy food and
drinks at the pool concession stand
and are responsible for their own
money.
Listen for the pool announcement
for Club youth to exit the pool at
3pm.
After hearing the announcement,
gather outside near the fence
located next to the baby pool and
wait for a staff member to take
attendance.
When a staff member directs
youth to the bus, walk the entire
way to the bus. Upon arriving back
at the Club, youth will scan back in
with their Club Card.
Pool Information
Club members are invited to go to the Hillcrest Aquatic Center
Monday-Thursday.
The Club will be bringing members to pool orientation at the
Hillcrest Aquatic Center from 9am-12pm on Tuesday, May 29 &
Wednesday, May 30. During this time, Club members will learn
about the rules and the different areas of the pool to help en-
sure safety for all of our Club members. If you need to pick your
child up from the Club between 9am-Noon on either of these
days, please let the front desk know that your child should not
attend pool orientation.
Members will be transported to the pool via the Club bus.
For safety reasons, it is required that if youth go to the pool on
the Club bus, they need to return to the Club on the bus.
Youth will leave at approximately 12pm and arrive back at ap-
proximately 3:30pm each day.
In order to go to the pool, members must have the following:
Pool membership or money for the pool admission
Swimsuit and towel
Club card or have paid the OYS daily fee
Sunscreen
Club staff are unable to assist members in applying
lotion sunscreen, but may help with applying spray
sunscreen
Swimming Lessons! Youth can register for swimming lessons at the Club front desk!
Spots limited to 35 on a first-come, first-served basis.
This class is Monday-Thursday.

Lunch Information Throughout the summer, the Club will be offering the opportunity to
purchase Club lunch at a cost of $2.75 per meal. For convenience, parents may
place money in a Club lunch account. Payments may be given to the front desk.
To sign your child up for Club lunch, please write their name on the sign up sheet
located at the front desk. Youth who wish to have Club lunch must be signed up
by 10am so the Club can prepare the correct amount of food. Families can call the
Club to sign up their child if they will not be at the Club before 10 am. Sign up
after 10am is an extra $0.25.
Youth who do not wish to eat Club lunch may bring their lunch from home. The
Club does not have a microwave and also requests that your child’s lunch be in a
cooler that does not need to be refrigerated. Due to severe peanut and other tree
nut allergies at the Club, please keep in mind we are a nut-free facility when
packing lunch. Therefore, please do not send anything with nuts or nut butter to
the Club. Thank you!
1st-3rd Grade Impact Programs
Painting Club
Members will learn different painting
techniques such as impasto and resist, color theory, and
create works of art worthy of any refrigerator in the land!
Mondays, 10-11am
Dance Club
Members will get up and dance!!! We will be learning how
to do standard dance moves as well as choreographing our
own dance routines. Dance Club will culminate with a per-
formance on the gym stage for all to watch and marvel at
our awesome moves.
Tuesdays, 10-11am
Chemistry Club
Members will learn about the chemical reactions that take
place to create some of their favorite things– ice cream, slime,
and more!
Thursdays, 10-11am
Field Trips All members have the opportunity to
sign up! Field trips are held one day per
week from approximately
12:30-4:30pm.

Cinema Wednesdays A kid-friendly movie will be shown at the Club each Wednesday.

Healthy Lifestyles Impact Programs
Gardening Club
Members will learn different aspects of gardening, plants, and
nutrition through fun, interactive activities. Members will utilize
the planter boxes located in front of the Club to plant their own
garden, which they will tend and investigate throughout the course
of the summer!
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 4-5pm
Gymnastics Club
Youth will learn the basics of gymnastics such as tumbling,
balance, and flexibility! Members from the Brookings High School
gymnastics team will also be coming in to work with the members!
Wednesdays, 10-11am
Smart Moves
Youth will learn about the benefits of self-esteem and how to be a
good friend throughout this program! The program will also teach
youth the dangers of drug and alcohol use through fun and
interactive activities.
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 10-11am
The First Tee
Offered through Brookings Parks & Recreation and Edgebrook Golf
Course, The First Tee helps participants enhance their golf skills
and learn valuable life lessons.
Participants must register with Brookings Parks & Recreation;
Registration April 3-May 24 @ 5pm. Max of 25 participants.
Cost prior to May 17 is $99+tax; Cost after May 18th is $120+tax.
No young person will be turned away because of an inability to
pay. Equipment and scholarships available through The First Tee at
Thursdays, May 31-August 2, 9:30am - 10:45am.
Ceramics Camp Youth will form, fire, and paint beautiful, functional pieces of
ceramic art! June 11-14 July 16-19

Kid Chef Camp
Youth will learn the secret ingredients behind many of their favorite dishes by cooking their very own breakfast, two main
dishes, and a dessert! June 18-21 July 23-26

Youth will explore Dakota Nature Park as they learn to reel in various
South Dakota fish! June 4-7 July 9-12

Bobcat Boot Camp
Youth will become football superstars after completing a week of football drills with the Brookings Bobcats! Youth will be biking to the football field, so don’t forget your
bike and helmet! June 25-28

Fee Based Summer Camps
Fee based programs are optional. These programs offer specialized
instruction and run from 9-11am.
Registration and payment will take place at the front desk and must be
completed before the session for which you are registering. Deadlines
for individual camps may also be posted at the desk.

4th & 5th Grade Impact Programs
Myth Busters Club
This program will teach members all about
the scientific method.
Members will be able to put their
knowledge to the test by trying to bust
some commonly known myths!
Mondays, 10-11am
ECE Programs!
How Does Your Garden Grow? Youth will experience firsthand what it takes to make plants grow! As a group, youth will gain an understanding of the
basic essentials that plant life requires, and do their best to provide this for the plants they are growing. Youth will moni-tor their plants, ranging from vegetables to flowers and from hardy plants to delicate ones, and seek ways to see optimal
outcomes with their plant growth by the end of the summer!
I Can Cook: Healthy! Youth will have the opportunity to create delicious, simple,
dishes that are good for them too! Youth will have the chance to generate a shopping list including items they will need to
make their desired dish with staff support. Youth will then be able to build their own healthy dish while guided by staff.
