OZONIZER
Prepared by:-
BHAKTI SAHASRABUDDHE
OZONE? Ozone (O3), or trioxygen, is a triatomic molecule,
consisting of three oxygen atoms.
It is an alltrope of oxygen that is much less stable than the diatomic alltrope(O2).
OZONE… Ozone is a highly reactive gas that occurs in nature due
to a reaction of oxygen with UV radiation from the sun and also from lightning discharges in the atmosphere.
The ozone layer in the upper atmosphere is beneficial,
preventing potentially damaging E.M. radiation from reaching the Earth’s surface.
But in lower atmosphere is anair pollutant with harmful effects on the respiratory systems of animals and will burn sensitive plants.
What is an Ozonizer? Ozonizers (or ozonators) are electronic devices that
produce ozone (O³), a highly reactive gas that has the
ability to oxidize anything it comes in contact with.
It is a type of air or water purifier which uses Ozone to kill bacteria and filter out a wide range of contaminants.
An ozonizer creates ozone by charging the air with a
burst of high negative voltage.
Applications Ozonizer is most often seen in the context of Air
Purification, where the use of "activated oxygen" is said to help attract dust particles and to kill ambient bacteria
and molds.
Ozonizers are also widely used in Water Purification as an alternative to chlorine.
The ozone kills various algae which otherwise build up in an Aquarium environment and can make it an unsuitable habitat for many types of fish.
Unlike UV sterilization which kills microorganisms by destroying nucleic DNA via radiation, ozone kills microorganisms on contact by reacting with and eating a hole in their cell membranes (a process called cell-lysing).
This cannot only destroy single-celled bacteria, algae and protozoa, it can also damage multi-cellular
microorganisms.
Ozone's negative effect on bacteria, fungi and many viruses is thought to help purify the body of these life forms, strengthening the day-to-day functioning of the body.
A lot of ozone therapies are there, which includes letting the gas into the lungs, injecting ozone directly and
drinking ozone-filled water.
DISADVANTAGES The problem with ozonizers is that they are very
expensive.
If they are used improperly, they can cause severe damage to the health of the fish and possibly the fish owner. If accidentally introduced into aquarium water, ozone can kill fish faster than the waste that it
neutralizes. any sort of therapy using the relatively high levels of
ozone recommended will ultimately be harmful to the patient.
DISADVANTAGES If ozone can destroy cell membranes, keep in mind that
it can do the same thing to the sensitive gill membranes of fish and outer membranes of invertebrates.
Ozone also can be harmful to humans. Ozone has a pungent "odor." Once you've smelled it, you won't forget it.
The bottom line is that if you intend to use ozone in your aquarium equipment scheme, you should consider using
an ozone reaction chamber.
