It is my pleasure to submit this request for a $?,000 Production grantto furd al1 innovative new "Family Puppet'Magical'Musical," T/re Dancing Hanclkerchief, conceived by Geoff Sobelle, (The ObiectLessonatBAl4, TheElephant Rooruat St. Annc's) and Adam Koplan, (writer/dircctor and the fbunding artisticdirectorof The Flying Carpet Theatre Company) with songs and lydcs by Roberi Lopez, (F/tted, TheBook of Monnon, Ale. p) and featuring Tom Key, (Artistic Director, ThcatricalOufit) as lhe magician. This coproduction between Theatrical Outfit, (T.O.) in Adanta andThe Flying CaryetTheat.c,(FCT) in New Yolk City will launchin June 2017aspatt of T.O.'ssubscliption season. A young daughtel, Bastienne, (playedby a puppetin the real world and by ar actor in the fantasy world), embar:rasses her father by exposing one of their illusions to the audience. The father responds with harshdisciplinc.a spanking, and lhe daughter is devastated. Shedecides to run away,but is captivated by new magic; a handkerchief comcsalive and beckons her toward her I'ather's valise-Bastienne disappears into the bag oftricks and is launched on an extraordinary adventure story, Dot unlike Dorothy to Oz or Alice through a looking glass. In this other reality, sheencounters the accouterments ofher father's show (iinking rings, cards, cups,balls) who, as puppets, live a full-life inside the bag.These props,hyper-realized throughpuppetry resemblc dragonflies, butterflies, wonns, snakes and a gigantic rabbit. In this lantastical univenc where the magic propslive. Bastienne comes to reconcile and realizea new relationship with hel lather beforesheretums to the ordinarf world. TheDancing Handkercrief is a greatexample of Theatrical Outllt's conmitment to tell "Stories that stir the soul". Thc show aims to stimulate adultsand childrento think aboutandhopelully discussr how parents trJ to live their dreams throughtheir kids; how kids areburdened by these expectations; how kids themselves olten have unrealistic expectations of theh parents. FCT is rcsponsible for the scdpt,puppets, orchestrated music, director,and choreographer. T.O. will supplythe sets, props,costumes, lighting. sound, casting, and management suppofineeded to realizethis show.
