It is my pleasure to submit this request for a $?,000 Production grant to furd al1 innovative new"Family Puppet'Magical' Musical," T/re Dancing Hanclkerchief, conceived by Geoff Sobelle,(The Obiect Lesson atBAl4, The Elephant Rooru at St. Annc's) and Adam Koplan,(writer/dircctor and the fbunding artistic director of The Flying Carpet Theatre Company) withsongs and lydcs by Roberi Lopez, (F/tted, The Book of Monnon, Ale. p) and featuring TomKey, (Artistic Director, Thcatrical Oufit) as lhe magician. This coproduction between TheatricalOutfit, (T.O.) in Adanta and The Flying Caryet Theat.c, (FCT) in New Yolk City will launch inJune 2017 as patt of T.O.'s subsclipt ion season.

A young daughtel, Bastienne, (played by a puppet in the real world and by ar actor in the fantasyworld), embar:rasses her father by exposing one of their illusions to the audience. The fatherresponds with harsh disciplinc. a spanking, and lhe daughter is devastated. She decides to runaway, but is captivated by new magic; a handkerchief comcs alive and beckons her toward herI'ather's valise- Bastienne disappears into the bag oftricks and is launched on an extraordinaryadventure story, Dot unlike Dorothy to Oz or Alice through a looking glass. In this other reality,she encounters the accouterments ofher father's show (iinking rings, cards, cups, balls) who, aspuppets, live a full-life inside the bag. These props, hyper-realized through puppetry resemblcdragonflies, butterflies, wonns, snakes and a gigantic rabbit. In this lantastical univenc wherethe magic props live. Bastienne comes to reconcile and realize a new relationship with hel latherbefore she retums to the ordinarf world.

The Dancing Handkercrief is a great example of Theatrical Outllt's conmitment to tell "Storiesthat stir the soul". Thc show aims to stimulate adults and children to think about and hopelullydiscussr how parents trJ to live their dreams through their kids; how kids are burdened by theseexpectations; how kids themselves olten have unrealistic expectations of theh parents.

FCT is rcsponsible for the scdpt, puppets, orchestrated music, director, and choreographer. T.O.will supply the sets, props, costumes, lighting. sound, casting, and management suppofi neededto realize this show. Both T.O. and FCT are delighted to brild on their successes with tamilJ'programming and wiil hamess Atlanta's deep community olpttppet artisans and performers
