This week: 2013 School Leaders
Bookpacks and 2013 anticipated expenses 2013 school organisation
2013 School Leaders
Students who nominated to be school leaders for 2013 were advised yesterday whether they had been successful in
being elected or not. Of the eighteen students who
proceeded to the election phase of the process, only eight positions were available. Each year it is a very hard thing to
advise students that they were unsuccessful and I feel for those children who are disappointed with the outcome.
This year I was impressed by the humility with which
children accepted the good news about their election and the resilience shown by those who were disappointed. Each
and every one of you is a credit to your families and your school. Congratulations to:
School Captains: Connor Brown and Bella Matthews
Vice Captains: Sari Walker-Woods and Jarred Steen School Leaders: Emily Andrew, Jemma Grice, Georgia Kent
and Kaya Ardita
Bookpacks & 2013 expenses
On Friday we will send home information about the contents of bookpacks and our anticipated excursion and activity
costs to assist with budgeting. Bookpacks are slightly different from stage to stage and will vary in cost. However,
each bookpack includes the cost of a Mathletics subscription, in some cases a textbook, and stationery
consumables. The pack is good value for money due to our access to savings from suppliers on government contract
who have to meet quality standards, and any textbook included in the pack is guaranteed to be the latest version
that meets current curriculum standards.
Bookpacks will be on sale from the first day of school next
year. Although you will receive an invoice next year, you may prepay for the bookpack before the end of the school
year.
When shopping for school shoes for next year, please purchase ONLY black leather school shoes or black leather
sports shoes and white socks. (No white or multicoloured sports shoes or black or grey socks.)

Class Item by 3W
3W have been learning about stereotypes as part of our unit of work on
‘Identity’. The class really enjoyed writing their own Aussie versions of
Little Red Riding Hood, cleverly using Aussie slang, lingo and stereo-
types to create an entertaining story with a distinctly Australian fla-
vour. Below is our class story where, as a group, all students contribut-
ed to creating our own version of the classic fairytale. We hope you en-
joy the read!
Little Red Kelly
Once upon a time on a flamin’ hot day there lived a little Aussie sheila called Little
Red Kelly. She lived in the outback and spent her days shearing the sheep, cleaning
the dunny and practising her shooting skills.
One day, the postie arrived on his dirt bike with a letter for Little Red Kelly. She
was totally bummed that her nanna Shirl was as sick as a dog and she decided
straight away to go and visit her. She packed a heap of lamingtons, vegemite
sandwiches and a meat pie into a tin bucket and set out in her ute, as quick as an
angry emu.
Driving across the dusty plain she came across a dingo named Bruce, prowling
around the billabong.
“Struth! You nearly ran me over, luv! Where you off to in such a hurry, Sheila?”
“Aw, sorry, Bruce. I’m in a bit of a rush. Me Granny is crook and I’m off to cheer
her up.”
“Whatcha got there, love? Smells beaut! I’m a bit peckish meself!”
“Rack off, hairy legs! I’m in a rush. Now get lost, you mangy mug!”
Bruce growled as Little Red Kelly jumped back in the ute and sped off, putting the
pedal to the metal. He decided then and there to get Little Red Kelly back. Quick
as lightning, he jumped onto the back of the ute and, yawning, curled up and
plotted a cunning plan while Little Red Kelly raced across the vast, red desert..
Shortly, Little Red Kelly arrived at Nanna Shirl’s shack. As she struggled to get
her snacks out of the front of the cab, the wily dog jumped off the back of the ute
and sprinted into the shack. Nanna Shirl saw him coming and grabbed her shotgun,
shouting “Get out you filthy mongrel or I’ll use this shotty on you!”
Unfortunately, Nanna Shirl was overcome with an asthma attack and, as she
struggled to get her puffer, Bruce shoved her into the dunny and shut the door! He
slipped into Granny’s uggies and dressing gown. He hid his ears under her sleeping
cap, jumped into bed and pulled the doona up. Little Red Kelly came in through
the door and shouted, “G’day, Granny! Gotcha some snacks and the Sunday
Telegraph! And here’s a cuddly toy koala from the tourist shop to cheer you up!
It’s made in Taiwan but it’s the thought that counts!”
Nanna Shirl didn’t say anything and Little Red Kelly came closer.
“Crikey, Nanna Shirl, I know it’s been a while since I visited, but what a big beer
belly you have!”
“All the better to cuddle you with”, replied Bruce with a bit of a stutter. Little Red
Kelly came closer.
“Struth, Nanna Shirl, I haven’t seen you for ages but what a cracker of a tan you
have!”
“All the better to show off my bikini with”, replied Bruce with a nervous giggle.
Little Red Kelly came closer.
“Flaming, oath, Nanna Shirl, I’ve never noticed before but what big chompers you
have!”
“All the better to eat you with, and those lovely lamingtons too, you little
redneck!”, replied Bruce and sprang out of bed!
In his rush to catch Little Red Kelly he tripped on his uggies and fell to the floor!
“Stay away from me, you filthy old flea-bag”, Little Red Kelly scornfully replied,
pulling two shotguns from her knickers. With two quick shots she floored the
dingo before he could say “stone the crows!” She quickly freed Granny from the
loo and was pleased to see that she had recovered from her asthma and was most
relieved to see her little grand-daughter there.
“Aw, give us a hug, dearie”, said Nanna Shirl and Little Red Kelly, a bit shy and
red-faced, gave her granny a big koala-bear hug. A passing crocodile hunter,
hearing the shots, raced in to sort out the drama, but realised that he was too late.
“Heck, luv, you’ve one hell of a shot”, he exclaimed, clearly impressed by her
gutsy attitude.
“Well, mate, I owe it all to my dad, Ned, bless his soul!” replied Little Red Kelly,
and gave the croc hunter a wink! He gave her a slap on the back and gave a big
gutsy laugh. On visiting another time, he was most impressed to see the brand new
dingo doormat outside Nanna Shirl’s shack and a constant supply of meat pies
from Little Red Kelly, who decided she should visit more often.
The end.
