Where are we? In this fun class activity, students write sentences in the present continuous tense to describe what is happening in a particular situation. The class then tries to guess where they are. Before class, make one copy of the cards for every 10 students. Procedure Introduce the activity by writing the following on the board: In a ___________ Then, write each clue on the board one by one. 1. We are sitting around the table. 2. I am switching off my phone. 3. Some people are reading books. 4. We are being very quiet. After you have written each clue, ask the students to guess where you are (In a library). Next, give each student one of the situation cards. Tell them to keep their card secret. Inform the students that they are going to write sentences (clues) in the present continuous tense to describe what's happening in the situation on their card. Explain that they should start with clue number 4 by putting the verb into the present continuous and adding the correct form of the verb to be. Students then do the same with clue number 3. These are the easiest clues and will be read last. They also have to think of two more clues (1 and 2) to describe what is happening. Tell them to try to make their sentences difficult to guess and to try to use words that don't relate to the place. As the students are preparing, go round and check the students have formed the present continuous correctly. Students then read their sentences (1 to 4) out to the class, who guess where they are.
