In our modern times, symbol can seem to
have lost its value. The most recognizable
"signs" are ones we see on the road or the
branding in advertisements. The logos for
major companies don't do much more
than perk our interest or disdain. They
surely don't deliver on their promises for
our lives to be happier, healthier, and
easier.
On this feast of Corpus Christi, we hear
the account of the Last Supper. This was
Passover, an ancient sign of the covenant
of Moses. The Hebrew people celebrated
God's providential care for His people.
To the listening disciples, Jesus makes a
very bold claim. "This is my blood of the
covenant." At the time of the first
Passover -- the redemption of the Hebrew
people from slavery to the Egyptians - the
blood of the sacrificial lamb was spread
on the lintels of the doorpost. Tomorrow,
some of the disciples would witness the
blood of the new covenant spread across
the wood of the cross.
Christ's Body and Blood are more than a
sign. They are a sacrament. In the
sacrament, the sign makes real what it
signifies. More than ritual, a sacrament
enacts truth of the covenantal love of God
and His promise of fidelity. It's a promise
God keeps. The same bread and wine of
that first Holy Thursday liturgy becomes
- throughout the centuries and until the
end of time - the very Body and Blood of
Christ. On this feast, we celebrate the
unfailing covenantal love of our God. As
you partake in the Eucharist today, and
next Sunday, and the Sunday after that,
remember that you receive neither a
meaningless sign nor an empty offer.
You receive God Himself, as He fulfills
His promise to remain with us always.
The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
“In that divine heart beats God's love for everyone,
for each one of us individually.” -St. John Paul II

We give a special congratulations to
our seventeen Holy Sepulcher School
Eighth Grade students who are
graduating on Wednesday, June 6,
2018. This is a tremendous step for
our young men and women as they go
on to the various high schools of their
choice. It is also a time to thank their
parents, for sharing their sons and
daughters with us as we tried to share
with them the Gospel values of our
faith. It is also a time to thank Sister
Anna Marie Gaglia, School Princi-
pal, Ms. Ashley Blystone, Assistant
Principal, Mr. Richard Rechenberg,
Mrs. Dorothy Johnson, 8th grade
teachers, Mrs. Lydia Smith, School
Secretary, and Teachers and
Volunteers who make a Catholic
School Education possible through
their own dedication and personal
sacrifices. It is also a time to thank
the parish family, who so generously
supported Catholic School Education.
It is a time to thank those special donors to the School Tuition
Assistance Fund,
who make it possible
for any child and
family who chooses,
to participate in this
special form of Catholic Education.
Added to our congratulations and
thanks is a prayer that our young
people will assimilate the values we
tried to pass on to them in every
aspect of their lives.
May our graduates keep making us
proud, not only by their successes
academically, but also by how they
continue to live the Gospel of Jesus
Christ in the Church, and by their
willingness to keep passing on this
wonderful legacy to succeeding
generations. May God bless and keep
all of you close to Him, close to His
Church, and close to our Parish
School and family, who have been a
part of your nurturing and formation.

It was difficult in todays reading for Jesus’
family to understand his mission. In some
ways, the situation can parallel relations
between parents and young adults today;
some parents don’t understand what their
children must do. If you are a parent with a
child exploring a religious vocation, try to
be patient and supportive of their discern-
ment process. Many parents want grand-
children, or imagine that their children will
be unhappy as priests or religious.
Whatever vocation the young person in
your life is discerning—lay ministry, social
sciences, health care, the arts, crafts, communications, trade fields, and
so forth, pray that they can be open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
The Church and the world need willing hands and hearts of all ages.
Pray for all the vocation of helping and serving.
Psalm 139: verses 1-3, 13-14, 23-24 O Lord, you search me and you know me.
You yourself know my resting and my rising; you discern my thoughts
from afar.
You mark when I walk or lie down; you know all my ways
through and though.
For it was you who formed my inmost being, knit me together in my
mother’s womb.
I thank you who wonderfully made me; how wonderful are your works,
which my soul knows well.
O search me, God, and know my heart. O test me, and know my
thoughts.
See that my path is not wicked, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Let us keep one another in prayer.

The Body and Blood of Christ Faith has many important facets that are effective in our lives. Prayer and
worship connect us to the God who created us and who
daily gives us purpose and provides for us. Times of
community and fellowship unite us with our family in faith
to realize that we are not alone on our journey of love with
God. Outreach and charity put our faith into action so that we can be the hands
and heart of Jesus in the world and provide for the needs of others. Yet, at the
heart of our faith, its essential foundation, is the gift of God himself to his
people, the Eucharist. The Eucharist is the memorial of God’s great act of love
for us, the death and resurrection of his Son, Jesus. The Eucharist is the Body
and Blood of Christ made truly present so that we might be nourished to do the
work of God in the world. The Eucharist is the source of our life as people of
faith and that to which we return all that we have received in thanksgiving to
God. Inspired by this Feast of Corpus Christi and as we journey On Mission for
The Church Alive! may our love for the Eucharist increase so that our faith may
remain strong in the midst of change. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn
more and to stay informed.
