Design Sprintswith John Zeratsky

In this fun, fast-paced, hands-on workshop, you’ll learn theDesign Sprint directly from its creator. Design Sprints are amethodology of its time. Never before have we had so muchtechnology and accessibility to information and each other. Anunfortunate byproduct of which is no time, no focus, scantattention. That's what makes Design Sprints so powerful. In addition toGoogle, Design Sprints have been run by teams at Slack, Uber,Airbnb, Medium, Dropbox, Facebook, McKinsey, IDEO, LEGO, theUnited Nations, the New York Times, and many, many more. The big idea with the Design Sprint is to build and test aprototype in just five days. You take a small team, clear theschedule for a week, and rapidly progress from problem to testedsolution using a provenstep-by-step checklist. It's like fast-forwarding into the future soyou can see how customers react before you invest all the timeand expense of building a real product. But the Design Sprint is not just about efficiency. It's also anexcellent way to stop the old defaults of office work and replacethem with a smarter, more respectful, and more effective way ofsolving problems that brings out the best contributions ofeveryone on the team – including the decision-maker – and helpsyou spend your time on work that really matters. Learn what design sprints are, how to pitch them to yourorganisation, and how to run them – all in a single one-dayworkshop. John will rapidly lead you through the process, teaching how the various steps fit together and why and howthey work. You’ll get tips and tricks beyond the Sprint book, and you’ll learnhow to incorporate these techniques into normal meetings. Johnwill give you and your team a whole new way of looking atbusiness challenges as well as the confidence to approach thosechallenges with renewed energy and optimism.

OKRs for Product Teamswith Bruce McCarthy

Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) are a worldwidephenomenon, helping to drive the success oforganizations like Google, Zynga, Oracle, Twitter, andmany more. Particularly suited to driving the alignmentnecessary for a high-performing cross-functionalproduct team, if not handled correctly, OKRs canquickly lead to silos, unethical behavior, anddemotivation. During Bruce’s one-day workshop, you’ll learn howOKRs drive your product roadmap, and vice versa, andhow to determine the right level of ambition for yourorganisation. We’ll look at how todefine effective OKRs, set annual OKRs and break thesedown quarterly, as well as how to map OKRs to peopleand teams, get buy-in from your stakeholders, makeOKRs visible across your organisation, turn these intoaction plans, and monitor and report on them. Plus, how to adjust course when things don’t go as planned. We’ll cover the most common what-if scenariosteams experience (or fear):

And we’ll talk about the pitfalls with OKRs and howto avoid them:

What if we can’t measure the most important thingsWhat if we miss our targetsWhat if our outputs don’t generate the outcomes wewantedWhat if our direction changes mid-yearWhat if we realise our objectives were wrong allalong?

How to avoid OKRs becoming ‘shelfware’How to prevent teams from undermining each otherHow to prevent gaming and unethical behaviourHow to clearly articulate the difference betweencommitted and aspirational OKRs.

You’ll gain first-hand experience using OKRsthroughout a simulated year-in-the-life of a productteam, handling what goes wrong, adjusting course, andmanaging expectations. You’ll also get the chance to set OKRs for your teamand get live feedback you can leverage when you getback to the office.
