One of the best ways to be inspired by new ideas, embrace technology and transform business through HR is to stand on the shoulders of giants. HR Tech Fest will bring together a carefully selected group of HR Tech Giants – HR and technology thought-leaders, influencers and early adopters to share their combined knowledge, experience and ideas.

HR Technology Initiatives Are Not Just About Implementation – Transformation Comes from Great Change Management

In a fast growth company that goes public and expands internationally, the only thing constant is change. But research shows that 80% of change efforts fail. Paul will discuss how change management techniques are critical for successful transformation of a growing workforce in multiple countries whilst implementing an enterprise HR system. These techniques include devising a change roadmap, formulating the change strategy amidst rapid growth, considering your culture, engaging the right people to drive the change and communicating the change.

Paul brings more than 18 years of experience in the design and implementation of complex human resources technology solutions for global enterprises. Currently he is the Global HR Operations Manager at Twitter where he is implementing key initiatives to streamline efficiencies and scale the infrastructure.

About my Brain Institute

The Future of HR: Create Brain-Friendly Organisations

In the past few decades, technology has grown at an unprecedented rate providing opportunities for businesses to expand to every corner of the globe. People’s attitudes and preferences have partially adjusted to meet the demands of a fast paced economy and a new way of working. Personal values and mindsets, however, still drive the behaviours and attitudes that make up an organisational culture.

Ignoring how the human brain works and the people aspects in organisational transformation can result in frustration, a lack of engagement, low productivity and high turnover. Taking care of talent and developing a culture of brain friendly organisations is the future of HR. Are you prepared for it?

Silvia’s past and current roles have uniquely prepared her for the current undertaking, that of leadership activist & change agent. Silvia’s curiosity about the human brain led her to a decade long journey of research into optimal brain functioning and the application of neuroscience in leadership and daily life.

Change Doesn’t Care Whether You Like It or Not - It Doesn’t Need Your Permission

We upgrade, exchange and replace our software because we know that old technology, rusty circuitry and limited bandwidth won’t suffice in the future. Yet why are we so reluctant to apply the same upgrades to our thinking? The current rapid pace of change in every industry means that we need to be constantly upgrading our personal, organisational and leadership software. How would your company be different if your staff were inspired about change, rather than paralysed by it? Or if your leaders could raise performance to meet the oncoming generations, do more with less, and innovate their way into the future? Or better still, if you knew which trends were impacting your industry today and how to position your thinking favourably for the future?

Anders Sorman-Nilsson is a reformed lawyer, and the founder and creative director of the Sydney and Stockholm based research company - Thinque. His unique global perspectives have been helping leaders, teams, and business owners in the USA, Europe, Asia and Australia make sense of, and harness disruptive trends in innovations, generations and communications.

Tim Sackett President, HRU Technical Resources (USA)

Hear the key features in any HR tech solution that drive adoption. This session will cut through the complexity and confusion of HR technology and arm you with knowledge and answers including negotiating internally to buy HR tech, the sh*t HR tech salespeople say, and how to translate. The average HR pro has no idea what HR technology is actually needed to make their HR function as effective as possible.

Tim is a 20 year HR/Recruiting Talent Pro with a Master’s in HR and SPHR certification, and currently the President at HRU Technical Resources – a $40M IT and Engineering contract staffing firm and RPO. He has split his career between recruiting and HR generalist roles. Tim believes the most important thing an organisation can do is increase its core talent base. It’s the one deliverable that HR truly controls that can have an extreme bottom-line impact to your organisation.

HR Technology - What’s Essential, What’s a Waste of Resources and What’s Worth Considering?

www.hrtechfest.com12 29 November – 1 December 2015

Data is the new oil. There’s a tech for everything, to analyse, track and in many cases, fortune tell. In this explosive session Bill questions how far we should go in mining and interpreting the inexhaustible personal data trail that follows us around. Our personal and business footprint dictates the impact of everything we do, from branding to engagement. Bill considers what this really means to our efforts to attract talent, and looks ahead to what will happen when everyone is an aggregator, and everything gets aggregated. Hold on to your hats!

Bill is a recovering recruiter, having spent close to 35 years in and around recruiting. He is a serial writer and commentator, and works with talent technology start ups to build great technology, implement new technology and change the way they hire. He always wears a hat and never wears a suit, and is known for not holding back with a view for fear that it might be controversial.

Data for Good v Data for Evil and the Aggregation of Everything

Brian Sommer President, Vital Analysis (USA)

For years, new HR IT was justified by productivity gains and reduced systems costs. But after you’ve re-automated payroll for the third time, how much more productivity gain is left? There are other opportunities for savings and it will take a new approach to serving the business, thinking about IT and how HR will drive strategic advantage. Join Brian as he builds the HR business case of the future.

Brian is in a unique position to diagnose the winners and losers in technology and services. He was the longest running (10 years) and the most senior director of Andersen Consulting’s (now Accenture’s) global Software Intelligence Unit. Since then, he’s created TechVentive, Inc – a company that helps technology firms better understand their markets – and Vital Analysis – the research and publishing arm of TechVentive. Brian still travels the world and publishes an impressive number of articles, research reports and blog posts annually to help software and services buyers make better business decisions.

The Applicant Overload and the Hiring Manager ConundrumBill BoormanManaging Director Technology & Innovation Recruiting Daily, Founder of #truMunity (UK)The two biggest challenges that talent acquisition faces is over-application from unsuitable applicants, and the deteriorating relationship between talent acquisition and the hiring managers in the business. In this session Bill looks at how organisations have done such a good job of attracting the wrong people to apply, overloading recruiters and leading to poor hires.

A Journey to Value: Out of the Fog and Into the CloudAndrew Culleton Executive General Manager, Group People Services - Human Resources, Commonwealth Bank of Australia Hear how Commonwealth Bank Group have undertaken a multi-phased program to establish contemporary, functionally fit, cost effective solutions to support employees through a simple, easy, and integrated approach to managing their careers and providing insights that drive action. Prior to 2011, the Group had more than 60 different HR, payroll and talent management systems – nearly all were bespoke and disconnected both in process and how this important information flowed.

Making a Big Impact with a Small Budget!Deb LoweHead of People and Culture, ClearView WealthNo HR systems? Still working with word documents, excel spreadsheets and hoping it comes together? Limited by budget or trying to make a case for those precious dollars? Join us as we showcase our journey from a making do with just a payroll system and many spreadsheets to utilising a variety of cloud based systems that enable us to search for talent, provide online learning, facilitate real time conversations and feedback on performance and ensure our remuneration and rewards are fair and market competitive.

Best of Breed vs. One System – What We Learnt Through ‘’Unifying Our HR Systems’’Ben TilleyHead of Performance and Operations, Bank of QueenslandHear the story of moving to one core HR system with a focus on the business decisions made and the lessons learned from a system and business perspective. Learn the necessity to create an awareness of what you are giving up with best of breed platforms and what the impact will be. Hear how BOQ dealt with their critical businesses processes including a remuneration review and the relationship between its importance to the business versus the importance, in terms of functional capability, placed on it by a “one system” provider.

How Can We Get the Outcomes We Want from HR Tech Vendors? [Panel Discussion]Sarah Moore HRIS Manager, JBS AustraliaWhat you see during the sales process and what you get at implementation can be two vastly different things. How do you avoid the expectation hangover between what you think you are going to get and what you will actually get? Hear from those who have managed vendors and projects and survived to tell the tale. What are their top tips for success? What would they do if they had their time again? What would they definitely NOT do if they could turn back time?

Deploying Integrated HR Systems: How to Select the System that Works Best for Your Organisational NeedsSharon Spence GM HR Systems & Recruitment, Fletcher Building (NZ)To track and analyse the huge swathe of data related to employees, former employees and applicants, and provide managers with robust information to support talent decisions, Fletcher needed to deploy an integrated HR system solution. The key deliverables of this solution had to cover core HR, compensation, talent and learning, and recruitment. Adding to the complexity, it had to be done across multiple countries and in multiple languages!

Using Cloud-Based HR Technology to Change the Game at an SMELaura Durkan, Head of Human Resources, Richard Crookes ConstructionsWith a dynamic employee base and multi-generational workforce, the search was on for new and innovative ways to support the business with cloud-based HR technology. Hear how Laura engaged stakeholders from the top down and enhanced engagement during implementation. This incredible warts and all journey demonstrates how technology has been used to enhance and enrich culture, overcome complex maintenance of data and training, reduce spend on consultant support and empower employees and managers to take control of their career.

The Modernisation of HR Brian Sommer, President, Vital Analysis (USA)While new software can go a long ways to making a HR group ‘refreshed’, there may be a lot of pre-work involved to see real change. Attitudes, processes and possibly new team members may be needed. All of this starts with a plan/vision and an eye to the possible. Is your HR group aware of the possibilities out there? Do you see new HR as it is or as it could transform businesses? Join Brian Sommer as he peels back the new technology and the changes HR must make.

Is Your HR Strategy Ready? – Questions to Ask (and Answer) Before ImplementationMichael Molinaro, Chief Transformation and Operations Officer HR, Barclays Bank (UK)Want to make the decisions that will shape your HR organisation and guide your technology designs? Hear how to apply the future of HR to your organisation with the first five steps to driving HR value. HR technology is new and exciting and everyone wants to get started now! But are your HR strategies ready? Learn the key questions and decision points to make sure your HR strategies are up to the task together with key strategies around the nature and structure of HR of the organisation.

Candidate Experience is the Biggest Lie Being Sold TodayTim Sackett, President, HRU Technical Resources (USA)

The entire premise around candidate experience is that we should treat candidates like we treat our customers. But, Why? Are our candidates, truly our customers? In some cases, yes. In many cases, not even close! We make a huge leap of faith in HR and Talent Acquisition making this assertion. So, why is candidate experience the hottest topic in the industry? This session will dig into some theories around why we might be putting just a bit too much attention into something that ultimately doesn’t have a huge impact on our overall ability to hire, and discuss what we should be doing with our candidate experience.

Creating a HR Strategy That WorksSilvia Damiano, Founder & CEO, About my Brain InstituteA fully coherent strategy requires the alignment of our current and future selves. Jump into this session and learn how an uncertain and ambiguous economic environment pushes most people to think about the present and to want to satisfy immediate (and often personal) needs, rather than investing the time to imagine and forecast future scenarios. When lack of imagination prevails and “the present” rules, the most likely outcomes are rushed and poorly-developed strategies, which end up affecting and generating stressful moments for everyone.

How Implementing a Learning Management System Can Support Commercial OutcomesMartha Travis, General Manager People and Culture, MSS Security How does a business with a national, geographically spread workforce of over 5,000 ensure compliance and consistency in learning, maintain easily accessible training records, and deliver engaging effective training outcomes to both luddites and ‘techsperts’ alike with no budget? And will it add value to the bottom line, or improve our competitive advantage or is it just another

‘HR initiative’? Hear the adventures of MSS Security and the potholes we faced along the road to achieving this outcome and answering the all-important question about return on investment over their 4-year journey.

How MYOB uses HR Technology to Drive Employee Engagement and Experience and Delight Our PeopleAlla Keogh Head of People & Performance, MYOBIn MYOB’s industry (high tech), according to Gallup’s 2014 research, two-thirds of all employees believe they could find a better job if only they took the time to look. As a software company that makes the promise of

“making business life easier” we needed to live that promise internally, and take our six plus disparate talent management processes and create a seamless experience for our Managers and employees.

Applying HR Cloud Principles to On-Premise Payroll and HR SoftwareTrent Wai-PoiHR Systems Support Manager, The University of Auckland (NZ)HR is moving to the cloud. You have heard this many times, and your leaders and decision makers are hearing the same message. The expectation being set by cloud vendors are speed, agility and visual delights. So why is it so hard to deliver cost effective and agile core HR and payroll? Hear you how you can apply cloud techniques to your core HR and payroll on premise software including ensuring agility in core HR, delivering an internal roadmap, setting the expectations and delivering the results.

How Coles Transformed its Recruitment Function Through AutomationChristine ConnorHead of Talent Acquisition, ColesIn driving greater alignment between HR and business requirements, hear how Coles have explored new ways in which the recruitment process can be improved through innovative and exciting technology. Christine, an accomplished, commercially focused HR professional will share her journey from the front-line of talent acquisition across Coles’ 750+ stores throughout Australia.

Heating the Talent Pool: Shifting the Process OnlineNicholas AntuarExecutive Manager Organisational Development, RACQThe value of internal talent pools is well recognised. Many organisations apply contemporary theories to identify their internal talent, but rely on manual processes, resulting in a static picture that disappears from view the moment other HR priorities take over. The RACQ was one of these organisations applying contemporary theories, but using manual processes and just like the backyard pool in a Canberra winter – no one was using it. The decision was made to shift online and now everyone wants to jump in.
