Blow Through Boiler Gauge GlassApril 30, 2014 5:09 am | Leave a Comment | Frozee
There must be two independent means of determining the water level, one of which must be a direct
reading gauge glass. The other is usually a remote reading gauge in the control room which should
regularly be compared with the boiler gauge glass.

steam cock.
4. Close drain D.
5. Open water cock W and check water level rises in the glass.
6. Open steam cock S for showing boiler water level.
The glasses should be kept clean. The glands should be nipped up at the first sign of leakage as the
chemicals in the boiler water will leave a deposit on the glass. The glasses should have protective
glass shields around them and be properly illuminated.

What is Ogee RingApril 30, 2014 5:05 am | Leave a Comment | Frozee
Connecting the bottom of the furnace to the boiler shell plating is a seamless Ogee ring. This ring is
pressed out of thicker plating than the furnace; the greater thickness is necessary since circulation in
its vicinity is not as good as elsewhere in the boiler and deposits can accumulate between it and the
boiler shell plating. Hand hole cleaning doors are provided around the circumference of the boiler in
the region of the Ogee ring.

Ogee Ring
Figure above shows the method of attachment of the furnace and Ogee ring for Cochran and
Clarkson welded boilers, welded to Class I Fusion Welding Regulations. Tell-tale holes drilled at
equal circumferential intervals in the boiler shell enable leakage between the Ogee ring and the
boiler shell to be detected.
