The spring season is always a busy time of year for us with our annual Upper Pine Creek Trout Tournament with $10,000 in cash and prizes each year. With our Trout Tournament always being the weekend after Mother’s Day we’re into the month of June before you know it.
On June 18th we did our Adopt a Highway cleanup of Rt. 6. Participating club members that morning from left to right are: Dave Frost, Belinda Frost, Tom Byrne, Aine Byrne, June
Baney, Mike Van Ess, Marce Van Ess; and myself (picture taker). The morning was beautiful with temperatures in the mid 50’s as we started early to lessen some of the RT. 6 traffic that might be traveling to Wellsboro for the annual Laurel Festival and also get a jump on the oncoming heat of the day. Our two mile stretch of Route 6 starts near our clubhouse and ends at the Log Cabin Inn at the town of Rexford.
During the 2 ½ hours we collected trash we filled 14 bags helping to beautify the Canyon area which was down from last year’s 18 bags collected. Maybe that’s a good sign that people are thinking twice instead of tossing stuff “out the window”, we can only hope!
Our next club meeting will be on Saturday, August 13th at 7:30pm so if you’re in the area please stop by as you are more than welcome to join us.
Also our annual Club Picnic will be on August 20th at 12 Noon at the clubhouse. So if you’re in the area please join us! Take Care,
Jim Baney (AKA Grousegirl)

MOVING FORWARD
NEWS FROM PSSA’S GRANTS ADMINISTRATOR
Happy Independence Day! Thank you to all those who help/helped keep us free. Freedom is not free!
Our thoughts and prayers are extended to all those who have been affected by the recent violence/hate crimes.
The International Snowmobile Congress 2016 (ISC) was held in Rapid City, South Dakota during the second week of June. Approximately 425 Representatives from the snowmobile states and the Provinces of Canada attended. Russia who has sent representatives for several years did not attend this year. They were missed. The temperature in Rapid City topped 103 degrees on Saturday. Luckily our meetings were inside.
Bob Kirchner, a past president of Pennsylvania State Snowmobile Association (PSSA) was unanimously re-elected to the office of President of the American Council of Snowmobile Associations (ACSA). This will be his last year of eligibility for this term of Office.
The urgency of getting students involved in snowmobile recreation was presented by several speakers. Mentioned in the July issue of Moving Forward -Region Seven Director, Bill Sowers, presented a program to involve Teens in snowmobile recreation during our annual Membership Meeting.. They are our future. The Board will consider this program and discuss an award for the Teen who is committed to snowmobiling in the state. What can you do to get a teen involved? Contact Bill Sowers with your suggestions/comments. Like-wise the American Council of Snowmobile Associations (ACSA) will present a Teen Snowmobiler of the Year Award at the ISC 2017.
Kim Raap, Trailwork Inc., gave a two-part presentation on the Over the Snow Vehicle (0SV) rules. Several of the new types of vehicles such as fat tire
bikes, snow bikes etc. were discussed. Much of this information pertains to the National Forests but as we are all aware it is in our back yard now. Mr. Raap has been invited to speak on this topic and discuss research concerning snowmobiles and ATV’s at our Annual Membership Meeting in 2017.
During the ISC Congress the North East Chapter (NEC) met and discussed the items not agreed upon by the Chapter in the on-going negotiations to have several states rejoin ACSA. It was decided to have a third party mediate the last few items that several states could not agree upon. It is the wish of the NEC that all states rejoin ACSA.
Reminder: Our PowerSport Show Committee is working hard to make the Show a success and is considering ways to bring more people to the show. If you have any ideas contact Roger Auker, Chair. Raffle tickets for two trailers and a SKI-DOO snowmobile will be sent to all members in July. We owe a debt of gratitude to Michelle of Blizzard, the SKI-DOO dealers and all vendors and volunteers who continue to support our show.
PSSA Representatives met with Representative Florindo Fabrizio (D), Erie County, in June to discuss the proposal to increase the Registration Fee. Representative Fabrizio is well acquainted with the economic benefits of the snowmobile community. This includes the value of volunteer labor used to maintain and groom our trails. He also recognizes that PSSA has worked with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and snowmobile clubs to improve snowmobile recreation in the Commonwealth for over 47 years. The Board will discuss specific steps to implement this proposal at the July Board meeting. It won’t be easy but we need to start with one step forward.
Don’t forget to renew your PSSA Membership on line. You can do this starting in July. The sooner you do it the better. Tickets for the sled and trailers and renewal reminders will be sent out very soon. Thank you for your cooperation!THINK SNOW!

Hello, PSSA Members,There is little
to report in regard to PSSA’s grant programs. Contracts have been issued and 90% checks have been
requested for Round I mini-grants of PSSA’s Round 20 grant. These clubs are hard at work on the trails, getting them ready for the next snowmobiling season. As a reminder to mini-grant recipients, signed contracts are now due into the grants office.
I have submitted the final report for PSSA’s Round 18 DCNR grant that expires on December 31, 2016. This grant provided financial assistance to eighteen clubs for 38 projects at a total of $54,049.00. In addition, club volunteers provided 2,886 hours of labor at a value of $86,439.00. That is a significant contribution to snowmobiling in Pennsylvania!
That is all for now. Have a great July!Lori Elliott

The PA Snowseekers are proud to announce our upcoming annual Thunder in the Forest Motorcycle Poker Run for Breast Cancer Awareness
This year marks the 11th anniversary of this event, and we're excited with the prospects of another successful year. Over the past 11 years we have worked together to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness. Having lost members to cancer and having several breast cancer survivors in our club, this is a cause that hits close to home. We have been fortunate enough to be able to assist local women as well as our chosen charity the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, an organization that devotes itself to helping women fight the fight right here in Pennsylvania.
This year’s run leaves and returns to our clubhouse, the Highland Haven, Highland Corners PA on July 30th. Our pre-registration and pre-run festivities kick off Friday evening July 29th with our friends and a great band from Pittsburgh, 'The Shiners'. All are welcome to come by and enjoy the festivities. The run route is through and around the Allegheny National Forest. We know that riding in the forest on our sleds is a scenic ride. On our motorcycles, the forest is just as beautiful. All
vehicles are welcome to participate, not just motorcycles.
We offer overnight accommodations in our clubhouse, camping, breakfast, dinner, entertainment, raffles, door prizes, and a genuine good time for a great cause! We would be grateful for any support that our fellow snowmobilers and snowmobile clubs can offer. If you would like to donate, volunteer, or come and ride with us, please get in touch!
Check out PA Snowseekers on Facebook. The run information is available there as well as our website, www.pasnowseekers.org. You can also get event information on the PA Breast Cancer Coalition's web site ( www.pabreastcancer.org), or feel free to email me directly. I'll send you a poster or flyer that has all of the details and you can share. My email address is below.
Again, we would appreciate seeing you at this year’s run, sharing a great time for a great cause.

The Snowmobile Club of Adams County (SCAC) recently handed out their Scholarship Check to Mr. Colton Ehrhart from Hanover High School. Colton received $500.00 to help off-set his expenses at Penn State University to study Environmental Engineering. Colton loves to snowmobile, fix machines and enjoys being around people.
SNOWMOBILE CLUB OF ADAMS COUNTYColton’s financial contribution is given in memory of Lee Krout from the Snowmobile Club of Adams County. Lee enjoyed people, engineering creative projects, and was an avid snowmobiler in various state and national parks across the USA.

Hello from Hyner Mountain Snowmobile Club. Just wanted to let everyone know what has been happening up on the mountain. Well, like I mentioned last month, it is summer and that is a very slow time at a snowmobile club. However, we are getting into July and that means the upcoming snowmobile season is, in fact, getting closer - approximately 177 days!We recently held our spring work weekend at the lodge. The weather was good, and the member’s turnout was good also. We got a lot accomplished; including, some cleaning inside the lodge, some grounds work, a litter pick-up along Rt.44, and we also installed a gate at the end of our lane. All of the members attending helped in the kitchen to provide really good meals for the weekend. All in all, it was a good weekend to be up north. I am sure I can speak
for everyone at the lodge in thanking two of our members for all their hard work with the gate project: Donnie Eckenroth and Brett Barrick. Thanks for all your time and efforts put forth. I probably mentioned this before, but I’d like to mention it again. “One of the great things about belonging to a snowmobile club is being with some really good people.” People who have their clubs’ interest in mind and will always step up to the plate when needed. Well, that’s about all for now. Hope everyone is having a great summer. Be safe, and have fun! Talk to ya next month.

Hello from the Laurel Highlands! We have all heard about the saying “The third time is the charm.” That is how many times our club has tried to clean up the garbage along the roads at the Adopt-a-Highway this year. When we tried in April there was too much snow, and we could not see the garbage. In May, we tried again, and it rained all day long. We went to Plan B for our workday. This turned out to be a cleanup of the garage where we keep our mowing equipment. We had 7 people in attendance, Junior & Linda Walker, Brad Hoover, Scott Buckles, Jim Wilkinson, Allan and Shelia Knupp. Where does all the Junk come from???? All day long we had burn barrels burning junk, and added plenty more into the dumpster. On June 11, we will try once again to clean the highways. More information to follow in the next issue.
If you know of anyone who is interested in serving on the board of directors for the club, please bring it to the attention of a present board member. Bob Ainsley, Steve Matscherz, and Bob Serfozo’s terms are up in September. Thank you to all three of them for their outstanding service on the board. We appreciate how much you have done, and continue to do for all of us. Nominations opened in June, and will close at the July 14th meeting. Nominations will be accepted for the three board positions and the Snowmobiler of the Year. Ballots will be emailed or sent to members after nominations close. The elections will be held at the September Meeting. The Laurel Mountain Volunteer Group met on June 4th for National Trails Day. Brad Hoover and Bob Serfozo represented our club joining in with close to thirty others to help with the trails in Forbes State Forest. They worked on brushing back part of Beam Run trail. Thank you men for clearing the path. Here is a report from the mowing committee. George Sweigard picked up John Felice at his house, and met Jim Wilkinson for breakfast at a
local restaurant. John is now on a walker from his illness last year. When we arrived at the clubhouse, we helped him get out of the truck and onto the zero turn mower. The three of us mowed the grass all day long, and only took one break for a snack. It does take some time to mow 20 acres. You would have thought John Felice was in heaven. He had accomplished his long dream of being well enough to start mowing at the clubhouse once again.
It’s almost time for some summer fun on the mountain. Our annual hayride and picnic is scheduled for Saturday, August 13, at 6:00, at the clubhouse. We will be grilling our hot dogs and hamburgers, steaming the sweet corn, and tasting all the homemade dishes you, our generous members, take the time to share. Can’t wait for some of your famous cookies and Jello salads! We will provide the soft drinks, condiments, and paper ware. There is plenty of room for families and friends. Bob Ainsley, affectionately known as the plow guy, will be bringing his hay wagon for a sunset tour. After the hayride, we’ll hang by the bonfire sharing more stories. We’d love to see you there.
The Race Committee has announced the dates for this year’s Drag Races. They are set for Sunday, October 2 and Sunday, October the 23rd. If you are interested in helping, please let a board member know, or get in touch with Shelia Knupp. You can reach Shelia at [email protected]. The next meeting is on Thursday, July 14th at 8:00 PM in the clubhouse. The following Sunday, July 17th at 9:00 AM, will be the next workday. Hope to see you at one of our events in the near future. Our picnic in August will be here before you know it. Until next time, live life to its fullest.

Wisconsin is the home of the world’s first snowmobile, the 1924 Eliason Motor Toboggan, and there are many excellent snowmobile museums scattered around the Badger State.
Many snowmobilers are interested in all things mechanical, and some of the most intriguing are machines that fly! July 25-31, the Experimental Aviation Association (EAA) will hold its annual Fly-In Convention at Wittman Regional Airport at Oshkosh, WI.
Among the special events and appearances scheduled for this year are:
The 100th Anniversary of Coast Guard Aviation; the 100th Anniversary of the Boeing Company, the world’s largest commercial and military aircraft company; the Centennial of World War I military aircraft, including replica Sopwith, Fokker, and Spad aircraft from the 1914-1918 era; the gigantic Martin Mars aircraft, the world’s largest flying water bomber and the last of its kind; Third Eye Blind will headline
the fly-in’s popular opening night concert on Monday, July 25; the 25th Anniversary of Desert Storm/Desert Shield; award-winning swing band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy joins the marquee musical lineup slated for the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2016 fly-in as the grand finale of a daylong Salute To Veterans on Friday, July 29; and the Canadian Forces Snowbirds Military Aerial Demonstration Team.
EAA AirVenture Oshkosh is the “World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration” and EAA’s yearly membership convention. Additional EAA AirVenture information, including advance ticket and camping purchase, is available online at www.eaa.org/airventure. EAA members receive lowest prices on admission rates. By Matt BlauchThe zesty One for All-Out Fun!
In 1970 the Diablo Rouge was retired and the Sprint was elevated as the primary Bolens snowmobile. Bolens had one goal in mind: adding and gaining customer satisfaction. With this idea they decided to embrace the conventional snowmobile design. The “Sprint” started production in 1969 with two models, the 620 (manual start) or the 621 (electric start). They had six different Sprint Models, the S295, S295E, S340E, TW-315, TW399, TW400E. Engines ranged from a JLO 297cc to a 399cc Kohler and the “E” was for electric start. Bolens produced their own Bolens 315cc, 21hp engine for the model TW-315. They also produced a very limited racing snowmobile called the Sprint SR295 with practically no factory support. In 1971 all of the Sprint models had Bolens motors in ranging from a 292cc to a 440cc. All engines were produced by either Kiekhaefer Aeromarine or by Gutbrod in Germany.
The electric start models had an automotive style alternator to recharge the battery, which most manufacturers didn’t offer at the time. They still offered a limited racing snowmobile called the “Sprint R” which had free air engines ranging from a two cylinder 296 to a three cylinder 438cc produced by Gutbrod. Bolens also changed the design of their Sprint with a more aerodynamic look. In 1973 they offered six models and a new design multilayered red to yellow graphics. Despite the change in their look, Bolens closed the snowmobile division in late 1972. They continued in the lawn & garden tractor equipment business until 1988 when they were bought by Garden Way (Troybilt). Bolens attempted to satisfy the customers as many other manufacturers did as well. They truly made an impact on the snowmobile industry with their efforts. The advertisement at right is from a 1972 Bolens brochure.
