• You are working on a very important trial exhibit. The attorney has asked you to create a PowerPoint presentation to show some background information pertaining to earthquakes. You will use the graphics provided, some bullet point text, and animation to help the jury understand information about the earthquakes.

• For your first project, you will first need to open your version of PowerPoint.

• Begin by opening up a new file.

• After opening the new slide, you will need to choose a theme or background for you slide deck. Pick a design which is not too busy with background elements. It should only be one color.

• Now we will choose a title for our first slide. Lets call it, "Earthquakes." In the subtitle, you can put your name.

• Next you will save your presentation as Earthquakes.ppt in your Documents file. Be sure to save your document frequently.

• Now you will insert another slide. This slide will incorporate some bullet points into the slide. This will help the attorney with his opening statement to the jury.

• For slides that incorporate text, it is very important to keep the slides free of a lot of wording. For effective slides, the author should only use an outline of what will be presented to the audience. In this case, the attorney would like to discuss the devastation of earthquakes to the jury, but he or she will only follow the bulleted text using it as an outline.

• The attorney has instructed you to include the following text in the first slide.

• Let’s first start by inserting another slide into your slide deck. Click on “Insert” new slide.

• Next cut and paste the text into the slide. You will automatically create bulleted text.

• Now let's make it interesting and add some animation. The attorney would like the text to “fly” into the slide as he is talking.

• First you need to highlight the text that you wish to add the animation to on the slide. In this case, you will highlight only the first bulleted item, “Shaking and Ground ruptures are main effect of earthquake”. Then choose the Slide Show → Custom Animation --→ Add Effect -→ Fly In. Set the speed of at medium.

• Now press play. You should see each line of text “fly in” from the bottom one line at a time.

• Adding Graphics and Animation

• Now the attorney would like you to add some graphics. Let's add a new slide.

• Insert a new slide into your slide deck. Click on insert new slide.

• The attorney would like you to title this slide Mt. St. Helens.

• Be sure to delete any other text boxes from the slide.

• Go to Google to search for an image of Mt. St. Helens erupting, and save it on to your computer.

• The graphic will appear on the slide. You will need to resize it to fit the slide. Just click on the image. You can pull the corner of the image and you can enlarge it that way.

• Now let's add some animation!

• Go to Slide Show.

• Click on the picture that you placed on your slide. By clicking on the picture, you have selected the object that you want to apply your animation to on this slide.

• Now select from the Animation Schemes the “Big Title” option.

• You should see the graphic be painted on the slide and the title fly onto the slide.
