President’s Comments
Hello
I don’t know about you guys, but this Rally Season seems to have just flown
by. I hope all of you are fine and getting ready for the winter months, either
in the South or here, where ever here maybe.
I want to thank everyone that hosted and co-hosted this year, what a great
year you all made it!
• Lacey WA, with Martie and Dennis Martin, George and Madilyn May,
and Dale and Sandra Riley. It will always be a memorable Turkey Din-
ner, Yumm!
• Kelso WA, Ed Anderson, Dan Murphy with Jean and Russ Bailey. Chef
Ed with his assistant Dan gave a cooking class that all enjoyed.
• McMinnville OR Butch and Julie assisted by Betty Bratten, Julie’s mom,
co-hosted with Gordon & Jan Sprague. We had great Chili and Lasagna.
Next years planned Rallies:
• Rest-A-While, Hoodsport, WA. April 19-21, 2013
• Rally American Sunset RV Park, Westport, WA. June 21-23, 2013

We are still looking for someone to host the American Sunset RV Park rally at

Once again, this Rally comes up in the month of June, when the weather turns

“NUSY SAYS” November 2012
Hope this column finds all our PNW friends in good health!! We’ve had 3 Rallys since I last wrote; two Chapter Rallys and one Area Rally in Coos Bay, OR. PNW again did the Ice Cream Social at the Area Rally and it was a great success; 25 people serving approximately 850 attendees (includes 130 vendors and 15 in the Show Coach area) in about one hour. We went through 30 gallons of Ice Cream and 200 lbs. of Strawberries!!! As usual, a good time was had by all AND the weather cooper-ated….Sunshine!! This was the last year Russ Bailey will ‘chair’ this event for our Chapter. There will be a new chairman next year, so lets get out and support him/her with the same support you all have given Russ these past 9 years. Several Get Well cards have been sent of late: Betty Bratten; Leo Peltier; Pat McCallum; Roger Daggett; Madelyn May; and Gary Tilley. We hope all these members are much better and well on their way to recovery.
Since this column was last written, we have gained FIVE new members!!
PLEASE UPDATE YOUR ROSTER. They are as follows: F280453 F369818 F391074 Don & Annette Asbell Ron & Brigid Grinnell Robert & Susan Lovell 1074 W. Two Rivers Lane 16105 NE 13th Circle PO Box 23603 Eagle, ID 83616 Vancouver, WA 98684 Eugene, OR 97402 F083276 F426796 Jerry & Pat Morgan Tom & Glenda Specht PO Box 408 13907 125th Ave., E Welches, OR 97067 Puyallup, WA 98374 see page 4 We send all of them a BIG hearty welcome and really look forward to seeing them at our 2013 Rallys. Please watch for their listings in the upcoming 2013 Roster to get their phone numbers and e-mail addresses. It’s nice to report that as of this writing, we have 40 members total.
“NUSY” has received word that long-time members, Ken & Millie info: Jean Bailey, hoBlodgett have sold their coach, put their house (Prineville, OR) on the market, and moved to Canby, Oregon. We send them our best wishes and do hope they keep in touch with us. That’s it for this time! We hope everybody has a Happy Holiday Season, and a good safe and healthy winter. Remember…if anyone has any news they would like to get into this column, please let me
know. My contact info: 503-632-5423; cell: 503-708-8650; or e-mail: [email protected].

COMMENTS FROM MEMBERS AT THE SEPT. 2012 RALLY @
McMINNVILLE OR
Sunday, September 23, 2012:
Great rally, beautiful park & good weather too. We’re heading for Yuma today. So good to see everybody, as
it’s been awhile for me. Good to see old friends and meet some new ones too! Leota Kelley
Such a good time with all the great people of Pacers, as always. We so appreciate the good folks who plan & do
a great job of planning and serving for us all. Thank you - Hugs, Don & Gwen
Great rally and great location, only topped by great people! First time with this group - the auction was fun
with Butch and Kimm keeping it going and interesting. Thanks, Glenda & Tom
Good rally! They all are! So good to get together with all our friends! Missed everyone who couldn’t be there.
Hope everyone has a good winter. Good weather, yummy food & a delightful weekend. Thanks to all the Pac-
ers for being so welcoming. Jerry & Pat
Hi Rudi, Here is a report about Quartzside
It is up in the air whether the big tent will even be in Quartzsite this year. The town of Quartzsite wants them to
have a permanent building and that is not going to happen. If the city insists on this condition, the big tent will
probably go to Yuma instead. I think I would just state in the newsletter that it is not yet decided as we are not sure
the big tent is even going to be there. Once we find out for sure, we will email all pacers and let them know.
Thanks for checking,
Kimm

RV Battery Storage
Lots of folks put their RV in storage for a period of time after the RV is winterized. If you plan to store your RV
it’s a good idea to remove the batteries and put them in storage too. This is quite simple to do, just follow these
steps:
1) When you remove a battery always remove the negative cable first.
2) Clean the batteries with a 50/50 mixture of baking soda and water if necessary. 3) Check the electrolyte level
and add distilled water if necessary.
4) Test the battery state of charge and charge any battery that is at or below an 80% state of charge.
If a battery is not recharged in a timely manner the sulfate material that attaches to the discharged portions of the
plates begins to harden into crystals. Eventually this sulfate cannot be converted back into active plate material and
the battery is ruined. Lead sulfation starts when a battery state of charge drops below 80%.
A discharged or partially charged battery will freeze much faster than a charged battery. Store the batteries in a
cool dry place, but not where they could freeze. Batteries in storage will lose a percentage of current through inter-
nal leakage. It’s not uncommon for a battery to discharge up to 10% a month when it is being stored. Cold tem-
peratures slow this natural discharge process down and warmer temperatures speed the process up. Test the stored
battery state of charge every month and charge batteries that are at or below an 80% state of charge. Completely
charge the batteries before re-installing them next spring.
Happy RV Learning!

Shown below and to the right are two new devices that combine an intel-
ligent chip/voltage limiter with a battery charger. The devices can be
hooked up to your battery throughout the storage or layover period and
will maintain a level charge. You must keep the electrolyte or water lev-
els up as the devices tend to deplete the water.

McMinnville Rally Report
The last rally of 2012 for Pacers Northwest was a big success. There were 21 coaches in at-
tendance. That is a BIG rally! The rally location was the Willamette Wine Country RV Resort.
The resort managers were very accommodating. Those attending were the Andersons, Asbells,
Baileys, Barbers, Booths, Cades, Daggetts, Dowdells, Evans, Flemings, Grensteds, Hagens,
Kelly, Leahys, Mays, Morgans, Propsts, Rileys, Spechts, Spragues, and Timmes.
Several coaches arrived on Thursday and gathered for dinner at the Ruby Tuesdays in Mc-
Minneville. The restaurant did survive and a good time prevailed.
The hosts for the rally were Butch and Julie Evans and Gordon and Jan Sprague. Schedules
were handed out to keep everyone informed. Friday evening Happy Hour and a Potato Bar din-
ner was followed by a game of CLR. 15 members participated, each starting this dice game
with 3 one dollar bills. When the game ended Pat Morgan was the big winner getting half of
the dollar bills with the remaining half going in the Christmas Fund. Lots of laughs and fun was
had by all.
Saturday started with our traditional potluck breakfast followed by a Chapter meeting.
The potluck table was full and no one left hungry. Several comments were made as to the fact
that we never organize the potluck and it always seems to be balanced. We are a great group.
Museums and wineries were visited during the day prior to Happy Hour. Dinner was a lasagna
feast with homemade pies for dessert. Following dinner a “white elephant” auction was held
with all proceeds going to the Christmas Fund. Kimm Cady and Butch Evans were auction-
eers…Rudi was missed!!! After all was said and done we had $476 for the Christmas Fund.
Thanks to all of our generous members, including one who paid $16 for the left over unbaked
potatoes from Friday night!!!
Members enjoyed a Continental Breakfast Sunday morning followed by lots of hugs as most
members headed home. The next rally will be next April 2013 in Hoodsport.
Did we mention Rudi and Louise
were missed?

The Law of the Garbage Truck
One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean he was really friendly.
So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!' This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck.'
He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.
The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so...Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't. Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!
Have a blessed, garbage-free day!
