We made THUNDER!, a Dragonfly Thunder Drum using dragonflies, gourds, seedpods, silk dyes and salt and learned how to do Pine Needle coiling, FUN FUN ,a great new technique. The food and the raffles were all just wonderful. A huge thanks to Rama’s team who helped prep for this fun day. Can you believe it? We are now officially into the Holiday season starting in November when we paint a cute Prudy Vannier Santa elf with Carol Ganzi. Hope you are signed up with Linda, she has a few of the wood pieces if you need one, just let her know. We also voted for the 2017 projects and there are some great ones selected. See the newsletter for pictures. Then we are off to the Holiday party that Sherry Choquette and Carol Ganzi have been planning all year long. Please see their article regarding the party. I really like the idea of each of us bringing a hand- painted ornament. I treasure the ones I have from friends. PCA November Membership News

PCA has grown to 50 members (!) this year and we’ve enjoyed great classes and teachers thanks to Linda Martin’s hard work; and 2017 looks to be an even better painting year. Renew your membership by December 1, and you’ll be eligible for the random-drawing prize to be announced at the Holiday Party. Please help us grow even bigger next year by recruiting a friend or family member to join PCA.

Remember to renew your SDP membership by December 1, and you’ll pay only $50.00…that’s less than $1.00 per week and less than a Costco membership. It’s easy to do on the SDP website. And while you’re there, check out all the discounts available to SDP members!

If you know someone who might be interested in painting but isn’t ready to commit to a full-price SDP membership, there are 2 other options:

Trial Membership: if you have not been an SDP member for the last 3 years, you can re-join for $30.00 per calendar year with all benefits except a printed SDP magazine; on-line version is available.

Student Membership: if you know a fine arts college student or younger artist who might be interested, they can join SDP for $15.00 per calendar year with the same benefits as a Trial Membership.

SDP and PCA memberships make great Christmas and Hanukkah gifts!

I’ll be at the November 13 paint-in and will be accepting 2017 membership renewals. Please fill out a membership form so we have all current contact information.

Happy Painting! Maureen

2016 Mystery Paint-in Update Our Mystery teacher this year was Mardella Ivers, a well-known gourd artist from Lake Tahoe (originally from San Diego). Thank you Mardella for an awesome project, it was quite a treat to learn how to paint the Thunder Gourd. We painted on a Pelican gourd with silk paints, blending the colors to produce a beautiful watercolor effect. After it was all painted, a Mylar skin and a long spring was attached to the bottom of the gourd. When the spring was shaken, it made the sound of thunder. We even extended our skills and learned how to make a pine needle rope and dragonflies with maple tree seeds. On behalf of the Mystery Paint-in committee, thanks to everyone who attended the class and making the event a success. Rama Shotwell
